Very disappointed with her customer service. Unprofessional. Tried to book her for a family holiday shoot for 2020 Christmas. She initially responded quickly, but as the date got closer responses would be further apart. Spent money on getting the families haircut, purchasing haku lei, and clearing schedules not only for my family but my sister/moms family. She didn't respond to questions or even have a location set up until a week before shoot was scheduled. The funny thing is she actually texted pictures of location options 2 days before the shoot was to be done, but many of my questions were still left unanswered. I guess she didn't need my business, but in return costed my family and I money in services done in preparation for a ghosted photo shoot. read more

She knows how to get toddlers to laugh and have a good time when they really don't want to. She is very responsive with setting up a session, providing final photos and placing an order. My husband and I enjoyed working with Karen DB Photography for a newborn session at Ko Olina. It was nice that there was not an additional fee for requesting a location rather than a studio. Karen made us feel comfortable and was very patient with our newborn. The only reason I am not giving a 5 Star review is due to poor communication about the session fee and collection pricing. Make sure you browse all pages of the website and double check exactly what you're paying for! Editing my review... I am changing this review from a 4 Star to a 2 Star. Super slow communication when waiting for my actual invoice/prints. I understand we all get busy but that's when you need to communicate with your clients most. I liked her photos but my husband purchased a photo session with Christmas cards set and our photo session was beginning of December but the cards came on Christmas Eve... who wants Christmas cards on Christmas Eve? I didn't like that how we spent so much money on this but cards were so late and nothing we could control that time. Also we received email saying offer free mini photo session for kids if we voted her for Honolulu family magazine. I sent her message few times about this but no response. I used Karen for our family photos this year. She was able to get my three girls to smile and there were so many great shots I had a hard time deciding which photos to purchase. She did a awesome job capturing my girls while at the same time the beautiful background scenery. In one of the photos she captured the mountain, sea, and land during golden hour! She is a true artist at her work. I ended up using them for our Christmas cards and blown up on canvas prints. Karen is a person that is so easy to work with. She helped me pick a location for the shoot and was willing to drive all the way to Makapuu. She is friendly and personable which made the photo session so fun and easy. I took my high school graduation pictures with her. Amazing photos were taken. I like the fact that pictures came out very natural. I didn't look awkward or smiling like robots how school pictures will show up on yearbooks. I especially loved my cap and gown pictures. I enjoyed the photo session with Karen because she also seem to enjoy working. I was able to pose many different poses as she directs me. She is very creative when it comes to posing for the photos. Karen was very accommodating. We made our photoshoot request in a very short amount of time. We were able to have a shoot that worked out very well with our short vacation schedule. She was very easy to work with and was very good with our daughter. Our daughter even took to her daughter, when it was time for our solo's, like family. We'd definitely recommend her and could see ourselves using her in future trips to Oahu. From a technical standpoint, she knew the optimum time, location, and background combination that yielded the best exposure for our photo's. Karen is super talented and has all of the qualities you want in a photographer that works with children. She is patient, kind and knows how to make everyone feel comfortable. We were on vacation, and she took photos of my 1 1/2 year old son, two 4 year olds, my grown niece and my mom. The photos that I previewed look gorgeous, and I had a really difficult time selecting which images to purchase. She was able to catch a couple of awesome group photos with everyone smiling and laughing AND looking into the camera. Worst service ever! I had my photo session with karen back in August 2017. I didnt see my online gallery till ending November 2017 after her repeated excuses. I finally selected my pics and paid in full and was told it would be ready by mid December, in time for xmas cards. But it wasnt. I made several attempts asking her to CALL ME and all she does is text back. She always told me she will work on it and get it to me the following week. But then no response. I made several attempts to call her again but doesnt call till 2-3 days later saying she was busy or didnt see my text. Each and everytime she said it would be ready next week. The only time she responded quickly is when I wanted to make payments. In February 2018, I called my credit card company cying. Even though it had past 30 days to filing disputes, my credit card company took back the payment from her. When I notified her about my credit company, she had the nerve to ask me to do a photo session for Valentines. Of course i said no. I met with Karen in March 2018 but realized none of the pics were edited even though she said it was. Lies!! I refused to take my pics and asked her to edit it. I didnt pick up my pics till June 2018. She was missing the keepsake mini booklets which I didnt care for anyway. I realized 1 of the pics was not what I ordered and she told me "it was probably a typo". I took my pics and had to pay her again. I went home to look spiral book which had the picture numbers located in back. I texted her back and told her that it was not my error. I demanded that she give me the correct picture or else I was going to call my credit card company again. Again, she told me she had ordered it when actually she didnt. And how I know is because I asked her to text me proof that she ordered it so I can tell my credit card company. So she did and it was actually ordered few hours after i was trying to follow up with her. I got it in 6 days. I asked several pro photographers in their shops and notified them about her and they said pics should have been ready 2 wks max. She did though give me free 2 additional 8×10 prints and additional 4 free digital prints. I will never go through her again. Deserves no stars! read more

Karen has taken our family holiday photos twice now, and both experiences have been great. Once was in her studio a few years ago and this year at the Helemano Christmas Tree Farm. She's wonderful with our son and is able to get natural candid photos of our family, which we love. She was responsive to the questions that I had and flexible in scheduling the appointment so that we could take our photos at the Christmas Tree farm. She also provided multiple options for the photo packages so we could find the best one to fit our needs and our budget. We took our photos in November and were able to view our proofs and make our final image selections the 1st week of December. We'll definitely be taking our family holiday photos with Karen again. read more

Karen is absolutely incredible. On a whim, I signed up for one of her boudoir photo sessions, and it was an experience I will never forget. She is so warm, friendly, and instantly made me feel relaxed, which is not easy as I am not comfortable in front of a camera (and don't normally wear make-up or dress up). I arrived feeling so insecure about my hair, skin, weight, and age (middle aged mom of two!). Thankfully, her hair and make-up assistant, Coco, is a genius with make-up brushes and curling iron!
