I came here to check out this wine bar and support my friend and his band who were performing there. I came solo by uber and felt welcome and comfortable coming here alone. The server was friendly and seated me across the room from my friend's band and that was fine and I wanted a rosé wine and she gave me two samples to try. I settled on the PJ rose wine which was slightly sweet and I also had a slice of warmed strawberry pound cake which was went perfectly with my rose wine. The ambience was roomy and lovely and it was a bit crowded as there seemed to be an event there. I enjoyed the wine and the music and service was friendly and attentive. My server told me that the wine bar has been open for a year and half. I would love to come back here with a friend to relax and have some snacks while we have a glass of wine.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]What I love about this place is that it's laid-back and casual.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]A lot of wine bars can be a little stuffy but this one seems to be all about community and family.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]They even allow children to come in with their families and allow you to bring in your own food.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Where have you ever found a wine bar that would let you do that?![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I love that the owner is a black woman, and that they have great music and of course great wine. It's definitely worth a visit, or two, or three.

The venue has a good amount of space and the lighting is great as well as the decorations. I've came here enough times to have met the lovely owner Chris Wachira and her associates Chadwick Spell and Marcel Anderson! I mostly come for their game nights, but recently for their karaoke night which I surprisingly enjoyed. I love that they serve food and allow you to bring in your own too. And they also serve non alcoholic beverages like juice if water isn't refreshing enough.

My initial introduction to Karibu was as part of the Alameda Wine Stroll. Out of the various wineries participating in the event, Karibu left a good impression, making this past visit my third time. The staff : very welcoming Knowledgeable about wines Knowledgeable about the neighborhood Ambience The decor and feeling of the tasting room is in between a sexy but comfortable place. They offer couch spaces, regular tables and high chair spaces to accommodate different preferences. My favorite is the big chandelier hanging at the entrance. Wines The Wachira flight had a good variety of wine types. It included: Chardonnay, Cabernet and sparklingly among others. My favorite was the Chardonnay. I would highly recommend this place for an afternoon of reasonably priced wines.

I came here last night with a few my friends who are members. I didn't think that we were going to stay until closing but it was so much fun. They had DJ and people were dancing and laughing the whole time. The service was excellent. It felt like every time we were done with one drink another one showed up. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants to have a great time and lots of wine. I like my wine on the sweet side I bought a bottle of mascot. I can't wait to have dinner and share it with friends and family.

Ya girl has been missing out BIG time. It took me waaay too long to get here, but I finally made it. And, what a gem this place is! I do most of my wine tasting in wine country these days. While I enjoy wine country, I've realized that it has made me neglect all of the wonderful local tasting rooms that I have right here at home. Plus, I'm getting older now and the long drives are getting harder for me to make (and more expensive with these ridiculous gas prices). My goal going forward is to start visiting more local tasting rooms and wineries. Visiting Cote West was the perfect way to start this new journey for me. Came here with a friend last year for a tasting after having brunch and we had an absolute blast! Cote West is located in a small warehouse district in the East Oakland area. It's very unassuming, but you'll notice their adorable front patio area as soon as you pull into the parking lot. They really have it set up so nicely! They've got large barrels to taste on with high chairs and large umbrellas to keep you shaded during those warm and sunny days. Their indoor tasting room is cozy but modern and chic with bright and colorful décor. They even have a large barrel room in the back where they host both private events and public parties! It's really a beautiful space. Jill and Pablo were our hosts and they were super friendly and inviting! We both decided to do a tasting but you can also purchase wine by the glass and light bites here as well. A tasting is $20 for 5 wine pours from their current tasting menu (tasting fee is only waived for members). The pours are very generous and they have a pretty diverse wine list. Also to note; they are the only tasting room in the city that produces their own wine on site! So, not only is their barrel room used for events, but it's actually 100% functional. Walk-ins are welcome but you can also make reservations (especially during their busier seasons). As I mentioned before, they have a very diverse wine list that features some very unique and less common wines. In fact, this was the first time that I ever tried Pet Nat (Petillant Naturel) and Orange Wine. Pet Nat is a sparkling wine that has allowed to ferment and finish in the bottle. I'd honestly have to say that this was my absolute favorite wine to taste here. It was so light, tropical, and effervescent. The perfect sipping wine for a warm day. Also really enjoyed their super floral and earthy Pinot Noir. It was definitely a Pinot by total definition and it had all of the wonderful elements that I love in a Pinot. Wasn't the hugest fan of the orange wine, but it was fun to try it for the first time. Jill did an excellent job of explaining the history of the tasting room and the wines. We also enjoyed hearing about the wines from Pablo, but we did feel a bit rushed by his during our tasting. To be fair, we did come about and hour before closing, and he didn't rush us after we paid and lingered for a little while afterward. For the most part, their wines are decently priced but I did feel that their red wines were a bit high. Nevertheless, I still enjoyed most of them and we had a great experience here. Would absolutely recommend to anyone who is looking to wine taste locally.

Upon driving there we were worried how parking would be given all the incidents recently in Oakland, but were pleasantly surprised that's its in a nice parking lot that's a bit secluded. The venue is perfect for a event of ~100 persons. My friend was able to bring her own food and the wine were provided. Perfect baby shower venue TBH! We got to try their sparkling wine, their Grenache, and the cab. I ended up sticking to the cab the entire day. We love how the garage door opens up to the outdoor, so both indoor/outdoor seating were available. The staff were also super friendly and welcoming. I loved how they provided a little tasting during the event as well. At the end we helped clean up the venue and the staff also helped as well. This seemed like a super chill and fun ambiance to host any event, while also letting the guests enjoy a bit of wine from the bay. I may have to book this spot for my future events!

The festival is about 8 blocks long. There were several food vendors and while some of the lines were long, they seemed to move along reasonably quickly. This year I checked out several of the bands that performed including Zebop, the Spazmatics, Swampers CCR tribute, Long Train Runnin', Soul Essence and Life in the Fast Lane & School of Rock Alameda show band. If you want to drink beer or wine you need to purchase a glass and buy drink tickets. If you have a beer or wine glass from the previous years, you can bring it and use it instead of buying a new one. But they will not serve you in a non festival glass. It was a nice day and I hope to see more artist perform next year!

You feel like you would expect more art and wine booths, but really it's just a street festival/fair. It felt like there were more booths this year than the many years ago, which was nice. More things to see. We like to come early to avoid the crowds. This year (2025) we came on Sunday around 10:30 and parking was a breeze. By the time we left at noon, it definitely got really crowed.
