I specifically chose a seat in the theater where it stated "Luxuru recliner dining" We walked in and got some popcorn and asked where do we order the actual food and if we can do it from our seats. They said they are not in charge of it and it is relating to the restaurant next door. So basically no answer... We get to our seats and the commercials come on saying to scan the QR code on your individual table to order food. COOOL! We see the square where the QR code should be, but there isn't one. So we are annoyed. I ended up walking to the restaurant, which is not easy to find. Need to go through some back door hallway. It was weird. Then I asked them if this is the correct place. And they said yes. I asked why was there no QR code on our table. The guy stated it is not for all screens. Said my screen (screen 6) they took it away. But they will deliver the food to me after I order there. That is kind of annoying. It did not state that when I bought the ticket on-line. After finally ordering, I had to hurry back to the theater and I was a few mins late of missing the beginning. The food tasted delicious though! I really enjoyed the loaded tater tots. But the false advertisement and hassle knocks it down to 3 stars.

We spontaneously decided to watch a movie Saturday night and were able to get tickets last min and we got good seats! I was worried since it's a historic theatre that there wouldn't be recliners but there were. We were able to park across the street with plenty of parking spots. The inside was so cool and I didn't know there were an upstairs as well. We got the combo with nachos, milk duds, and replaced the soda with iced (it was huge yay!). We watched Hoppers and I absolutely loved it :) Would come back again if in the area!

My daughter. I had to sneak in a picture. Seeing Hoopers hilarious movie. 3/2026

Purchased tickets online! Three adults matinee price 3/$36. My daughter was kind enough to pay. So, my daughter and my baby cousin went in. We weren't hungry. My cousin just wanted a pretzel. $6.50 geez. We found our seats. This theatre brought back so many memories. When I was a Girl Scout leader we frequently went here. Hoppers was Hilarious! I want to see it again. My baby cousin enjoyed it a little. 5/10. My daughter said it was a 10/10 must see again. After we went to five below. Just to walk around a little. Until we meet again Alameda it was Nice!

Really pretty theatre. It has a charm to it that makes it feel so good to be in there. The smell of popcorn and moody lighting just makes it perfect. The chairs are comfortable as well.

This is a stylish art deco theater. The seating is comfortable. You buy your tickets at the box office and select your seats when you purchase your tickets. You can order food and cocktails from cinema Grill and they will be brought to you! I look forward to seeing my next movie here soon!

I absolutely love watching movies at the Alameda Theater & Cineplex in the heart of downtown Alameda. This beautifully restored historical theater has the most incredible interiors and architecture. There are 8 theaters and one large historical theater with plush reclining seats. They have an American Bistro and bar adjacent to the theater called Cinema Grill where you can buy your tickets there and order food and drinks which will be delivered to your seat. Their popcorn is always fresh and delicious. They have great parking and a friendly staff. Plenty of shops and restaurants near by to enjoy after your movie. You can also rent out the theater for private events and when the Warriors are in the playoffs they show the game in the historic theater.

Nice comfy theater where you can dine in! Ordered Wicked themed drinks before our movie in the Cinema Grill next to the theater, and they allowed us to bring it in a to-go cup as we headed to our showing. We got the glinda and elphaba drink. They have themed foods / drinks depending on the movie, I suggest checking on their instagram @alamedatheatres to see what their specials are before going. Food was delicious and fresh! Enjoyed watching the movie with nice cushiony reclined chairs while sipping on my themed drink!

Ask the Community - Alameda Theatre & Cineplex

Describe reclining seats, please ? Are they padded? Degree of recline? Headrest? Best choice for one in pain?…

The foot rest rises to a 90 degree angle or so, and the back reclines slightly. The seats are quite comfortable.

Does this theater have it's own parking lot or do they validate parking? I tried searching the reviews and the answers I found were inconclusive. Some reviews mentioned a parking structure but no information on whether it's free or discounted.

They have a parking garage next door. It's a pretty cheap garage. I dont think the theater validates. But unless its changed recently its only metered Mon-sat until 5pm and free in the evenings.

Which theatre screen have recliner seats?

I believe all of them do now but you can go online when you reserve your seats and look at the chart

Is there matinee hours and discounted prices?

Are all the seats in theater 4 new recliners?

We sat in the theatre 4 and the row behind the dine in seats were reclining. When you reserve your tickets online you will see which ones are reclining

    Are all seats recliners?

    No. No they are not.

    What are the best seats?

    Upper rows 15 - 20

Hello I would like to know if they pass movies in Spanish or subtitles?

No, they dont even show many foriegn films at this theatre. And no subtitles either.

I don't see the tix prices ...for weekend 4 pm show?

    $12 for adults.

What's the return policy? I tried calling and looked at the website and found no info on that. I know we can return/exchange tickets, but is that only for BEFORE showing time?

Most theatres require refund BEFORE showtimes.

How far back are the reserved seats?

They are good seats . There's a big gap between the group of seats in the front aka neck breakers and the reserved section .

What days are movies cheaper? Is it Tuesdays or Wednesdays? I think they changed it at the end of last summer.

Tuesdays! Saw the new Alien movie for cheap the week after it came out!

What time does the door open for the Warriors game tmrw? And how early do you think people will arrive to line up?…

    5! It's filling up!

It's easy to buy your tickets online to then scan and redeem at the door. The concession stand is located right in front where you walk in. Price-wise, I would say it's slightly cheaper than your average movie theatre and you can also take advantage of their matinee hours. I watched The Odyssey in theatre 1 and had a great time! The seats are very comfortable and since the screen is flat and in a fixed position, you can sit anywhere you'd like to still get a good angle and view. The audience was also very respectful and I had no issues with noises. Quick note that the restrooms are located right up the stairs and there are plenty of stalls. I'm looking forward to visiting again!

Movie started at 4:00pm, something was iffy with the audio, so they had to go through testing, which delayed the start of the movie. First 30 minutes of the movie, everything was going fine. Audio was kinda quiet, but not too bad. And then, as soon as the movie was escalating, and transitioning right into a big car chase set piece, the audio cut out. For a whole 5 minutes, there was no audio. We tried to get help, but every employee outside of the auditorium shrugged and said "someone is probably working on it" PROBABLY???? WHAT???? Not helpful at ALL. Completely incompetent idiots. We tried to get SOMEONE to notify the person in charge of the projector but they stared at us with no help. After that 5 minutes, the audio came back... for 4 seconds. For another 7 minutes, the audio just kept cutting IN AND OUT AND IN AND OUT. We ended up just leaving and getting a refund. I'm guessing the audio remained screwed up because there were about 50-60 other people in that theater who walked out in complete frustration. I even saw someone throw their drink onto the carpet. People walked past me saying "fucking shit show" and "can't fucking believe this" and it was in fact a complete shit show. I would be surprised if they just cancelled the screening after 90% of the crowd left. I'm surprised there are no reviews talking about this disaster considering the amount of people who were in that theater. I don't know what the employees were doing, I don't know if they were high or something, but holy shit were they incompetent. Someone needs to be fired over this whole thing considering the amount of refunds that needed to be processed that day. And it really REALLY hurts to say all of this, because the experience I had with this place a year ago watching Sinners was phenomenal. As a recommendation, they have to be more careful with who they hire. And they should tell their employees that when there is a persistent issue, that they should actually fucking do something or NOTIFY someone about it. Not just stand, stare and say "someone is PROBABLY fixing it." Rant over. At least the popcorn is delicious.

At least that's what I was told. I waited in line at the concessions for nothing. I arrived early and was the only one in the theater. I wished I would have went back to my hotel & grabbed some socks. I wore my leopard faux fur coat luckily that kept me warm , but my slides exposed my feet and you know how cold theaters get. The theater was clean, but the seats were stained. I wonder how long it would take to steam clean some of these seats. A set of disposable flat sheets might be needed for some. Security on site & they reminded customers that if you parked in the parking structure to move your car as it closes at 1am & your car could be locked up for the night. The Odyssey was a great movie. Three hours long, but I was clapping and cheering rooting at the end. If you had to read Homer's The Odyssey in English Lit in high school, then you know the story line. If you've never heard of this story well you're in for a surprise. So many big name actors in this movie. Zendaya sure did get a lot of press for the film, but she had a few appearances. All were good. I wonder which Zendaya scene Christopher Nolan deemed perfect done in one take? Was it her last scene because that made me sad. Was it the scene before by the ocean shore. Anne Hathaway as Penelope played the perfect queen, the bitch Queen. Tom Holland had great scenes too, respectful to his mom, the queen even though she was a mean unsupportive bitch to her own son. Robert Pattison as Antinous, you slimy pu$$y, I hated your character, you did good at playing the scaredy cat at the end. Matt Damon as Odysseus whoa bravo. Oscar nominations are headed your way. Way to go to show them acting chops. Gen X still in the game. Cherlize Therón, you Lotus flower witch. Great costumes. Your scenes were flawless. Lupita Nyong'o the Nubian queen who played Helen of Troy. I was shooketh after your scene. Jon Bernthal, supporting actor nominations should be headed your way. Menelaus, were friend or foe? Schemeing & plotting. Great costumes. Hope I didn't give it away. Great movie, left the theater at 1:30am. Grateful it was showing in Jack London

This past Friday (August 3rd), featured "Gumby Dharma", a documentary on Gumby's creator, Art Clokey. I first learned about this event by reading about it in the Chronicle on Thursday. I have been a longtime Gumby fan (since the 4th grade) so when I read that there was a documentary on Gumby's creator being viewed I had to go check it out. Sunset Cinema is a wonderful (and cheap) way to spend a Friday night while getting a little cultured. This feature documentary started at 8:30. Get there early to pop a squat on the grass and indulge in the variety of refreshments, wine and coffee drinks all complimentary thanks to the event's sponsors. Also, if you took the time to fill out a short questionaire, you got a free, posable Gumby figurine. How could I refuse? There were even Gumby-shaped shortbread cookies. Prior to airing the documentary, there was a short Q&A with the film's producers and then another short Q&A after the film, answering audience questions. So next month, be sure to pack a picnic and a blanket and prepare to cozy up to loved ones while catching the next documentary in the Sunset Cinema series: Mighty Warriors of Comedy (starting at 7:30). October 5th (@ 6:30) will feature "Piece By Piece", a documentary on San Francisco's graffiti artists. I wont be missing that one! And San Francisco residents, don't let the fact that this event is located in Oakland turn you off. It's super easy to get here from the Bay Bridge (20 minutes total) and there is plenty of parking.
