The ones we sat in reclined. From what I read, you can order food and drinks to be delivered to your seat if you have a table in front of you. We did but we had already eaten. Caught the matinee showing of Lee Cronin's The Mummy, a great horror flick. I got there just in time, as the movie started exactly 3 minutes after the listed ticket time (so I guess no previews?!?). The lobby had a classic look and was fancier than expected. The single line for the concessions stand was quite long on a Saturday afternoon. There was another concessions stand upstairs leading to the second floor auditoriums, but it was closed. There was also an attached cafe offering a more extensive menu of food and drinks. The auditorium had recliner seats, but the back rests didn't recline much, mainly the foot rests were noticeable. There was just a single aisle in the room, but enough space between rows to not bump into seats while walking down the row. Temperature was perfect, sound and picture quality no problems, and parking options included a lot across the street (2-hour limit), a garage around the corner on Oak Street (75 cents per hour), and street parking in the area if you're lucky. read more

I specifically chose a seat in the theater where it stated "Luxuru recliner dining" We walked in and got some popcorn and asked where do we order the actual food and if we can do it from our seats. They said they are not in charge of it and it is relating to the restaurant next door. So basically no answer... We get to our seats and the commercials come on saying to scan the QR code on your individual table to order food. COOOL! We see the square where the QR code should be, but there isn't one. So we are annoyed. I ended up walking to the restaurant, which is not easy to find. Need to go through some back door hallway. It was weird. Then I asked them if this is the correct place. And they said yes. I asked why was there no QR code on our table. The guy stated it is not for all screens. Said my screen (screen 6) they took it away. But they will deliver the food to me after I order there. That is kind of annoying. It did not state that when I bought the ticket on-line. After finally ordering, I had to hurry back to the theater and I was a few mins late of missing the beginning. The food tasted delicious though! I really enjoyed the loaded tater tots. We spontaneously decided to watch a movie Saturday night and were able to get tickets last min and we got good seats! I was worried since it's a historic theatre that there wouldn't be recliners but there were. We were able to park across the street with plenty of parking spots. The inside was so cool and I didn't know there were an upstairs as well. We got the combo with nachos, milk duds, and replaced the soda with iced (it was huge yay!). We watched Hoppers and I absolutely loved it :) Would come back again if in the area! read more

Purchased tickets online! Three adults matinee price 3/$36. My daughter was kind enough to pay. So, my daughter and my baby cousin went in. We weren't hungry. My cousin just wanted a pretzel. $6.50 geez. We found our seats. This theatre brought back so many memories. When I was a Girl Scout leader we frequently went here. Hoppers was Hilarious! HORRIBLE experience As a teenager who's watched many movies at this theatre, it is the one of the most inconsistent places. I've bought tickets countless times for rated R movies with other people my age, but some of the employees have varying "rules". Some days we don't get ID'd, some days we get ID'd and get accepted while using different forms of identification (Drivers License, State ID, School ID, etc), and today, they upright denied us. My friend and I came to watch a rated R movie while both of legal and lawful age, but were denied entry because my friend brought a School ID that verified their grade level. read more

So first off I'll start by saying I really enjoyed this movie theater. I will however say the whole dine and movie situation is very lack luster but since this review is about the theater I'll stick to that and give my review of the grill separately. This theater is really old but in a good way. Not in your stinky movie yuck dollar theater kinda way. It has a very historic vibe to it that gives it a true story. I love how it feels new and old at the same time. The staff is super friendly and accommodating which I love. The theater seats were really comfy and the sound was fantastic! Although at one point during the movie we could hear the movie next door for like a minute but other then that it was fine. I didn't mind the few seconds interruption. I will come back to this theater but next time I'm just gonna order snacks at the snack bar. read more

Came here to see The Devil Wears Prada 2 with a fellow artisan. Wow, it's been a lil' while since I've been here since it's been remodeled. We came on a weekday, sat on luxury recliners with maybe 4 or so other patrons. Didn't have any ample time to get concessions as there was a large crowd of students gathering snacks and drinks. I absolutely love watching movies at the Alameda Theater & Cineplex in the heart of downtown Alameda. This beautifully restored historical theater has the most incredible interiors and architecture. There are 8 theaters and one large historical theater with plush reclining seats. They have an American Bistro and bar adjacent to the theater called Cinema Grill where you can buy your tickets there and order food and drinks which will be delivered to your seat. Their popcorn is always fresh and delicious. They have great parking and a friendly staff. Plenty of shops and restaurants near by to enjoy after your movie. You can also rent out the theater for private events and when the Warriors are in the playoffs they show the game in the historic theater. read more

This was my first time at this theater. My husband and I came here to watch a movie after dinner elsewhere in Oakland for date night. We watched the movie in the historic theater, which was kind of cool. The concession had mixed drinks (made by a Keurig-like machine) and beer on tap. I think you can also order food from the attached restaurant to be delivered to your seat. Not sure if you can only do that if you get one of the dining seat you. That's my only complaint about this place. Their website was unclear about the difference in luxury vs general seating. Turned out the difference was recliner seats vs regular seats. The recliner seats are only in the front, closer to the screen, and the back 2/3 of the theater are all regular seats that recline a bit, but like the new recliner seats with footrest. I would have preferred the new recliner seats, but also not sure if I would want to sit so close to the screen. read more

I was recently feeling a bit lonely and down on my luck, so I decided to go to the movie Sheep Detectives to raise my spirits. Unfortunately, my girlfriend had recently broken up with me and taken 17 of our small dogs. The singular 18th dog that she let me keep, unfortunately the runt of the litter missing both eyes, but having three extra ears, recently decided that it was fed up with me as well and walked itself to the vet to be put down without telling me. As you can imagine, when I went to the Alameda Cineplex to see Sheep Detectives, I was very hopeful that it would be a light-hearted movie to raise my spirits, even though I was devastated to be going alone. Unfortunately, when I got to the box office, they looked me dead in the eye, assessed my face very visibly, scanning top to bottom, and told me that I was apparently visibly too soft to handle the intense subject matter of the movie Sheep Detectives. After some light verbal abuse from all six employees and the manager commenting on my soft eyes and weak spirit that apparently manifested itself through my posture, I conceded to watch The Backrooms instead for a lighter movie that they deemed I could handle. However, around 30 minutes into The Backrooms, I decided that it was not my cup of tea. Not all was bad about The Back Rooms, but it was too liminal, and the character The Onion had an incredibly grating voice. Despite me being a large fan of the character Gorp, his presence was simply not strong enough in the movie to override my hatred of The Onion, so I decided to leave the theater and try to theater-hop into Sheep Detectives. When I came into Sheep Detectives, the sheep were all crowded around Hugh Jackman's character, kicking him and beating him in order to initiate him into their gang. I was immediately drawn into the story. The leading sheep, played by Danny DeVito, was by far my favorite character. His dark and demented backstory really resonated with me, and my recent experience losing my job and my girlfriend and 18 dogs. Unfortunately, 13 27ft tall security guards each accompanied one of my ex's dogs, trained now as, fear sniffing attack hounds, all rushed into the movie theater and airlifted me out of my seat, while the dogs clung on me with their massive genetically modified jaws. They attacked me for my movie hopping, beating me relentlessly and throwing me out onto the curb. I can't type due to my lack of fingers on my right hand and lack of a left arm, so i am writing this using my new nuro-link, which gives me debilitating migraines when every i do a think. I have also lost one eye and 1.83 ears. I am currently writing this from the hospital where they charge 2,000,000 per ibuprofen on top of my massive other medical debts and other credit card debts accrued by my sensory deprivation tank addiction. Side note: the movie popcorn hit hard. Three stars. read more

This theater is great. There is a municipal parking structure right around the corner. You can buy tickets and select your seat online well before the showings. That way, you can walk right into the theater and show your tickets to the left of the snack bar Or you can avoid the service charge and buy your tickets and select your seats at the box office in front of the theater. (I like to study the online seating chart of the theater because there are different ticket prices for different seats in the theater.) I believe there are early matinee discount showings and senior discount pricing every day, and discount pricing all day on Tuesdays. How can you beat that? read more

Husband and I came on a Friday to watch the 3:50pm showing of Lilo & Stitch. When we initially bought our tickets on the website just two days prior, we were the only ones who purchased seats; but on the day of, our showing got pretty full of families, kids and couples. However, everyone was pretty quiet during the showing, no loud talking or interrupting, so that was nice. The concession stand has a variety of food, which we got a small popcorn and coca-cola icee for less than $15. You can even order food ahead and have it delivered to your seat inside the showing - the middle rows have tables, while the back row does not but as extra leg room. The bathrooms are pleasantly clean, and so are the seats. We initially didn't know what to think of the theater, but enjoyed our experience well enough that we see ourselves coming again. The front door doesn't check bags ;) As for parking, you would have to find street parking or a spot in one of the lots around, which could be metered. read more

Finally checked out this cinema in Alameda! We purchased our Aquaman 2 movie tickets online. No wait to enter. Quick scan and we were on our way. As soon as we entered, the high ceiling was incredible! There were a ton of live size movie characters aligned upstairs near the balcony. Very cool! The line for food and drinks were pretty long, but moved quickly. If you're only getting beer and wine, there's a separate line on the far left. There wasn't a wait, but probably because people didn't know about the line. We didn't like the beer options there so we headed to the attached restaurant/bar to the cinema. There was a door that went straight to the bar.. almost like a secret hallway and door! We ordered popcorn and two beers and they asked if we wanted it now or delivered to our seats. Well, why not! We got our order delivered so we could walk around and stop by the restaurant. Service was great! No wait! Restrooms were clean! We loved our experience! Will definitely go back for our next movie date :) If you're in the Alameda area, you need to check out this cinema. Right in the heart of their downtown. read more

The movie and theatre experience was great, but I didn't know that you had to preorder all of your food ahead of time to actually enjoy food from the restaurant in the premium seats. I wish it was like the other movie theatre Cinepolis where you pressed a button and the servers came to take your order in real time for any food or beverage options. Came here for the first time for a mom-daughter Friday night movie date to watch Everything Everywhere All At Once after it swept the Oscars and won Best Film in a historic win. I had watched EEAAO twice in theaters previously, in two different theaters, so this was my third time and in a new theater to me. I can't believe I've never seen a movie here before! This is such a beautiful, large historic theater. My friend said his grandpa came here to watch movies when he was young. I went to see Wicked at this theater, and the sound was only working from the front speakers, not any of the dozens of side or back speakers. A huge part of any theater experience is Dolby 5:1, and the sound was muffled, low, and one-directional. For a sweeping, epic musical like Wicked, this technical issue should have prompted the management to cancel the showing or move it to a working theater. When I asked the theater's manager about this problem, she rather unpleasantly said there was nothing she could do about it, and then she was kind of rude about refunding my tickets. In this age of home theaters, no movie theater can afford to have bad audio quality AND bad customer service. Yes, the building is charming and historic, but that is not nearly enough to make me go back and try this again. read more

I should have reviewed this a long time ago. This is a great theater complex. First off, it is connected through a back hallway to Cinema Grill, where you can order drinks and/or food to take into the theater. The main theater is an art deco movie theater from the 1930s that has been restored. There are 7 other screens as well. The sound system in all of the theaters is great, and most have the really cushy seats that recline with leg rest. The snack bar is well stocked with all the movie treats you would expect, including a red and white wine in case you don't have time to go Cinema Grill. Always a nice time. read more

The theater's warm marquee glow and friendly staff set the tone before the lights even dimmed; inside, the screen was crisp, the sound enveloping but never punchy, and every seat had a clear view (no awkward neck-craning here). The restrooms have multiple broken door latches which have been broken for many months, if not years. They never show classic films, just your typical modern movies. They are lacking in commitment to maintain this historic theater in a state of excellent condition. The movie volume is often too loud. They should follow the example of the superior theaters nearby: The Orinda, The Stanford in Palo Alto, and even the super-cool Niles Essanay Museum and Theater: show classic old films and be proud of it, and don't compromise on quality. read more

Since Covid we haven't gone out to the movies but maybe 4 times in the last two years and last night was one of them. We were able to reserve and pay for our seats online and pick out where to sit. It was crowded on a Sunday night during the holiday weekend but we were able to find a parking spot across the street at the public parking meter lot and since it was Sunday night, parking was free! You have to go to either of the two kiosks outside in front or stand in line for the box office and I opted for the kiosk to get our physical tickets. Even though I had my UPC scan, you still need to go to the kiosk or box office to get your physical tickets for your seats. Then hubby went to the concession stand (which was crowded) to get popcorn while I went to the seats. I was surprised that the inside of the movie theatre (#4) was completely different from what it was before as they sectioned off the dining seats from the regular seating and the regular seating are all now recliner seats! They are much more comfortable then the old lumpy rocking seats they had before. In fact, they were so comfortable, that hubby fell asleep during a quarter of the movie that he wanted to see! Oh well, he will definitely go back and see the movie again. The seats were comfortable and it seemed like the theatre was full so I wore my mask after eating popcorn but I felt warm because it didn't seem like there was air circulating inside the theatre. I just hope that they turn on the air next time. read more

Wanted to watch The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare somewhere special since watching a Henry Cavill movie is always a special treat for me (rawrr!) so my bff took me here since we'd never visited this theater before. What a cool place. It's an old style movie palacewith high ceilings and art deco and a lot of history. We got to see the current exhibit of Aquaman inspired wardrobe by a local business. They have typical movie fare, plus at certain times they service alcohol, so that is always a cool thing to try. We were there on a Sunday, so parking was free both in the adjoining garage and on street. The seats were comfy reclining type chairs so it was nice to kick our feet up. The only thing missing was gourmet food delivered to our seats like they do at the Parkway, Alamo Drafthouse, or Cinepolis, but I guess they just want to encourage you to eat at their adjacent restaurant? If they fixed it to serve that restaurant's food in the theater then I would have happily plopped down $40 per person to put on the feedbag during the movie. Instead we opted to get hotdogs and a soda at the Pampered Pup a few feet away from the theater for $10 each. Still, a really cool venue and I'll be happy to return. read more

This is my favorite local Bay Area theater. The inside is a beautifully renovated classic theater so it really feels like a treat to go. The main theater is massive so it's hard to get a bad seat for a premier. Parking is super easy as there is a large parking garage around the corner--parking there is pretty cheap although I know quite a few people who never pay and have never been ticketed. The only reasons this isn't a 5 star review: the website could use a facelift. It's a little dated and not super user-friendly. The process of buying tickets ahead of time could be more streamlined. After you purchase, you are emailed a QR code but will still need printed tickets from the outside kiosk and therefore may end up standing in line regardless to do so. It would be better if you could show your email QR code directly to the usher inside and avoid the lines. Lastly, no big deal but the food is pretty bad. Stick to popcorn and candy because the "nachos" and hot dog will leave you disillusioned, disappointed and wanting more. The theater has a partnership with the restaurant next door where they can deliver food to you in the theater. It's a good option in a pinch although a bit pricey. read more

I brought my son to a Warriors Watch Party last week and I thought it was just a great idea, a fun way to watch basketball with a bunch of Warriors' Fans. This is a nice cinema in a historical building in the heart of downtown Alameda. It underwent a major renovation some years ago, and they've done a nice job of modernizing it and adding new screens while preserving the historical sections of the theatre. The theatre is clean and well-maintained. They have new comfy recliner seats. They have a very decent concession stand. A major bonus is that the theatre is connected to Cinema Grill next door, so you can bring drinks and food from the restaurant to the movie, or have them deliver to your seats! You can also purchase your movie tickets at Cinema Grill if you wish. Definitely recommend catching a flick here; currently, I would recommend 'The Menu', which we have seen twice on the big screen and would see again, it's that good. Enjoy the show! read more
