Stopped in for a light dinner before a movie and I always love the vibe of Cinema Grill. There are blown up photos of classic movie stars, and a ton of seating inside and outside. Date: 3/27/2025 Time: 7:30 PM 58° Cool I don't have an issue with the entertainment on Thursday evenings at Cinema Grill. The band is great, playing Latin jazz, cha cha music. What is the issue? The lack of good service when it comes to paying the bill. This evening is not the first time I have experienced an extremely long delay in paying the bill. It also happened on February 6, 2025 around 9:40 PM. Each time I waited for about 30 to 35 minutes for the waiter to bring me my bill. Another thing, the waiter had to ask me what did I order. I gave him the information the second time. Apparently, he did not write down the order the first time. With this type of delay, Cinema Grill was very fortunate that I did not do a dine and dash. I had to go up to the bar area both times to pay the bill. Eats and beverage: Hail Caesar salad and an Arnold Palmer. The salad was tasty; however, the Arnold Palmer left a lot to be desired. Usually I order an Arnold Palmer as a test to determine whether or not the quality of the food is good. The beverage failed. I had better Arnold Palmers elsewhere. Caesar salad, 3.5 stars; Arnold Palmer, 2 stars. Three factors which caused the drop from a 4 star rating: delay in getting my bill in a timely manner and a terrible Arnold Palmer. The female manager said I would not be comp for the delay in receiving my bill. Before I left, she was warned that I have an option to say something on this website about Cinema Grill. Thank you to everyone at Cinema Grill for making Christmas Eve for my friend, Lupe, and I, brighter and merrier as there were limited options to explore in Alameda. While I have several suggestions about how to improve the taste and flavor of my cinema grill burger, I'll focus on what I did appreciate. I'm so grateful for Iriana and manager dude, they managed to serve so many hungry customers with poise and a cheerful smile. I appreciate the tender, love, and care that the kitchen staff gave to Lupe's salmon sandwich. I wish I ordered that. There's always next time though! It was so sweet that Iriana must have filled my BIG glass up with water at least 4x because I'm a fish out of water on land. We can't wait to return for the live music entertainment! My boyfriend and I are avid moviegoers and we always pick this theater because of its character and charm. I had suggested to him that maybe we should try the Grill next door. The thought of having our food delivered to our seats seems cool. The Lot in San Ramon has the same concept and I decided that we should try this at least once. I ordered the Beyond burger with sweet potato fries. My boyfriend ordered the fish tacos with coleslaw. We were told it is going to arrive on our seats by 5:15 pm. The movie M3GAN 2.0 started at 5 and by the time 5:15 came, still no food. So my boyfriend goes downstairs to see what was taking so long blah blah blah. Finally our food arrived. 13 minutes late!! Watching the movie my boyfriend turns to me and asks how my burger is. If my burger came back cold. I tell him it's still warm but it was really salty. He turns to me and says the tacos were cold and the tortillas fell apart. He wasn't happy with his food. Went in for a 7pm movie, walked down to cinema grill via theater entrance around 730, the cashier said it was okay and still took my order, was really nice about it. Ordered 2 burgers and a pizza. They delivered to our seats surprisingly fast, and the food was good and filling- had some leftovers (a good thing) and food was already in to-go containers. 4 stars only because I never used Cinema Grill via Alameda Theater before because it seems almost impossible to find a way to order online from your seat. The website never works. I'd recommend just going in person because the menu seems to have more variety there and it would overall be a smoother process. read more

Ordered the sidecar drink which was very delicious and my father ordered a beer. He ordered fish and chips and when he asked for tartar sauce they didn't have any. So what's the whole point of fish and chips? I ordered the Snow White Pizza. It was served lukewarm and not fully cooked. You can tell they cooked the dough and the sauce and then added lukewarm toppings on top. Not sure what the white chunky cheese was. It has been a long time since I first reviewed here. I had hoped that after all these years, the food would have improved. It appears as though despite mediocre reviews, not much has changed. We decided on a movie over the weekend, and decided that we would have more time to eat before the movie, if we dined there at the grill. We thought that maybe there would be some new offerings. We were seated promptly by our server. She was nice and attentive. The place was empty. I think there was one other party in the restaurant and a few in the bar. It's kind of a shame, because I feel the place has so much potential. But, people still aren't coming. Upon receiving our menus, it became apparent that despite lackluster offerings, the menu was virtually unchanged in 5 years. I ordered the Philly Cheese steak. It was pretty good, and I think the best choice of the evening. My son ordered the CLT chicken sliders. He told me that he thought they were undercooked. I took a bite and realized that something in-fact was very wrong. They were crunchy in the center. It was almast like they were precooked, frozen and not well cooked to order. I don't know what it was, but they were inedible. That was a real disappointment. We had hoped to have a nice family meal together. We decided to settle up and head to the movie. I stopped by the bar to grab a blass of beer to take into the movie. It was $8.00. I gave the guy a 10 dollar bill. He replied "thank you" and kept the change. While I would have tipped the two dollars, he really should have asked if I needed change. So disappointing. Maybe I'll try them in another five years. read more

It's pretty hard to mess up a burger and fries right? Well Cinema Grill makes it look easy. We came here on a Tuesday evening for the $5 movie at the Alameda Cinema next door. We thought we'd pop in for a quick bite before, but unfortunately the experience here at the Grill ruined everything. We both ordered the hamburger and it was terrible. And honestly? It's not even the fault of the cooks. The ingredient quality is horrific. You can tell just by looking at it that they use low quality ingredients and yet they still feel justified in charging exorbitant prices because they're a part of the theater. This place actually has lots of things going for it: a perfect location, classy atmosphere, wonderful servers, and yet the horrible food overshadows all of those good things. Thankfully the servers were super helpful and understanding. They are extremely nice and friendly and they'll go out of their way to try to remedy something that isn't even their fault. I love the Alameda theater and I will always come back to it even though it is definitely not as nice as an AMC or Regal cinema. It's a shame that Cinema Grill is attached to the theater because it really ruins the experience. They have the perfect location, the atmosphere is very "classy casual," and the drinks are good too. And I'd come and try Cinema Grill again if it was under new management. They have a lot of upsides but they need to invest some serious time and money into upgrading the quality of the food. read more

Tonight, around 5pm or so I wet to Cinema Grill. While there I was on my phone looking at Marine corps veteran license plates. She told me she has no opinion because she is not into self advertising. I was offended because I'm proud of my military service in the Marines and want people to see that I served. Went to Alameda Cinema grill after watching a movie, shared the pesto veggie pasta and margherita pizza with my bud. Veggie pasta was quite good and the ingredients went well together. Our margherita pizza took a while to come out, but the pizza itself was scrumptious and had a nice cheese pull. Our server was also very nice and attentive which we appreciated. Sunday brunch was wonderful. Found this place on accident while we were looking for another brunch spot but the live music was so good we decided to change plans. A live jazz / blues band was playing new and old favorites. Just awesome! The food was ok. Ordered the classic Benedict. It was too saucy for my taste, my biscuit was soaked. But the potatoes were perfection. My friend had the salmon Benedict and the salmon was cooked great too. Bloody Mary was good. I had an almond milk latte. Came in for some indoor dining! First time in a year. What a treat it was to come into the Cinema Grill. Started off with Calamari and a glass of Cabernet. For the main course I enjoyed a steak with spinach and a side of macaroni and cheese. While the steak was over cooked, it was well seasoned. The Mac and cheese was the hero of this meal. Served piping hot, the cheese was so gooey and delicious. The ultimate comfort food! I might come back just for that! Overall, the restaurant was very clean and the service was fast and friendly. I've come here twice so far, once with a group and then a couple days later with my son. The food and service were fantastic! Everyone in my group enjoyed their meals. I ordered a Moscow Mule for the first time and thought it was good. The Steak Tater Tachoes were the star of the evening. Even though it was heavy, more than I would eat, it was a fantastic chest meal. The steak was perfectly cooked, the bacon, tater tots, and all the sauces were incredible. I just couldn't get enough which is why I brought my son by a few days later. I ordered the Tachoes again, lol. They were still delicious. I ordered a different drink and I cannot find the name anywhere but I know it had pomegranate in it. It was pretty flavorful. My son ordered the Cinema Grill Burger with bacon and loved every bite. We were both very satisfied with our meals. I really like the vibe of this place, so far the service has been excellent. I have been coming to the Alameda Theater to watch movies for years, but I've never actually tried Cinema Grill before until recently. My parents and I decided to come on a Sunday morning for brunch and ordered the following: - mixed fruit & berries creme fraiche bowl - house cured salmon toast - three cheese omelet All three dishes were great. I really like salmon lox toast and the mixed fruit bowl was refreshing to eat in the morning. Haven't been in a very long time. Decided to try out brunch today. Usually I would sit at the bar, but they had a band crammed into the tiny bar area. Very small space to have a live band in my opinion. But ehhh to each his own. So I opted to sit outside. My server was wonderful. She really made my day! I can't find my receipt to give her name unfortunately but she really deserves a shout out. I'll find out next time. I ordered the huevos rancheros and it was fabulous! My friend and I were headed to "Wicked Little Letters" at lunchtime, so we decided to order food delivered to our seats. We tried to go to the side door where we've ordered before, but it was locked. No sign indicating why ... we knocked as people went by, and they let us in, but the super convenient order bar was unmanned. Again, no signage to send us to the front. We wandered to the front finally, and from getting in line to leaving with our order placed easily took 30 minutes... even though we knew what we wanted. We were presented with a tab to sign for $15, even though our total was more like $80. (It was someone else's tab.) I am unemployed, and my generous friend insisted on paying for the food and the movie tickets. So when the meal was, unlike the movie, largely disappointing, I felt the need to complain. We ordered a veggie burger, fish tacos, sweet potato fries, and two drinks (a vodka gimlet and a Cast Away). The food took about 45 minutes to arrive (which the menu had warned was a possibility), but it must have been sitting quite some time before being delivered... my sweet potato fries were barely warm, and the tacos & burger were unpleasantly soggy. The fish tacos in particular were impossible to eat as a taco--I ended up eating them more like a casserole, with my fork. The tacos were tasty but barely warm. TheCast Away was tasty, too. We actually waited a fair amount of time too, so one would think that the food would be delish but quite the contrary. We ordered crab taquitos and ahi poke. Both were exceptionally less than subpar. The taquitos were not hot, had average tasting sauce, and didn't have a tasty enough garnishing. They garnished the plate with a little bed of shredded lettuce, but it had no cilantro/lime dressing, pico de gallo, sour cream, guac, etc. it had some drizzled sauce of some sort that wasn't too tasty or seemed fresh. I very underwhelmed. Next there were the not so tasty ahi poke nachos of sort that didn't have fresh tuna, appeared rubbery, and had no soy flavor or sauce on them. Not to my liking. Since this establishment is next to the movies and serves food to the movie theater, I'm thinking and hoping that they were just slammed and overworked, so the food was suspect this particular night. It was a half a step up from the hotdogs in the theater. Not cool. I hate I have to offer a 0 rating for the food; however, a 5 rating for ambiance, service, and entertainment. Such a cute spot. Alameda has a lot of hidden gems and this place is one of them. My coworker found this place on Yelp because we just wanted to hang and drink bottomless mimosas and she found Cinema! I didn't expect too much from a restaurant in a theatre. When I walked in, we were the only patrons dining in so I thought this place must be horrible! Turns out it wasn't and most people don't eat until after noon on Sundays! I'm so glad we came here. Our waiter Alec was super attentive and took great care of us. The food was good (nothing fancy or brag-worthy), but the service and drinks stood out. Soon after we ordered our drinks and food, we heard a soothing voice singing on the other side of the restaurant. We didn't realize it was a two-man band. They sounded great. After some eating, laughing and drinking, we moved over to the other side, where the stage was. The restaurant started filling up. We were there for well over three hours and had an amazing time. But every time I go here the food is just bleh. We came in several nights ago and ordered food to be delivered to our seats in the theater. The woman taking our order wasn't particularly nice - she made me feel that just by ordering. I was pissing her off. So that wasn't a great start. She poured a glass of white wine which was literally warm - not just room, temperature mind you, but warm like it had been sitting next to something hot. I asked for ice, but she went ahead and poured me another glass, which was room temperature. Just not great. No apology, no acknowledgment, just made me feel like I was obnoxious for saying anything. Our food came very quickly and they brought it to our seat in the theater. I turned on my phone light briefly and was confronted with one of the least appealing food items I have ever encountered. I had ordered the fish tacos. I've ordered them in there before and they are never great. But this time there was literally 3 tablespoons of what appeared to be mayonnaise mixed with a little catsup glopped on top of each of them. It was like the grossest thing ever. So I got up, and brought it back to the restaurant, missing my movie, and asked if that is how they normally prepare this item. The manager came and assured me this is how they prepare it. He gets points for offering to to replace it with something else. I asked for the fried chicken sliders instead. I was thinking, kind of hard to screw up something you fry. It's the same thing my husband had ordered. They were also bad - neither of us liked it, and neither of us finished it - but at least marginally edible. So they get a couple points for being willing to replace the warm wine and the bad food, and the manager was very polite, but I won't be going back (except maybe to purchase a bottle of beer to go with my popcorn!). read more

I haven't had brunch in what seems like forever, and when he mentioned they had mimosas, I was sold. We found free parking right outside (it was a Sunday) and were seated within a few minutes. They offer indoor and outdoor seating. They had amazing live music, and the artist was so friendly and personable. I ordered the soup and Sando and my friend got the eggs Benedict. My Thai lettuce wraps were awful - got limp head lettuce "cups" initially, requested fresher and chilled and it was a bit better. But the actual filling was a sweet goopy blob of mixed ingredients and no mint in sight (or in taste) and a few peanuts scattered on top and drowning in sweet chili sauce. They really should not offer this item at all. Could not eat it. All the items are supposed to be separate and you make your own lettuce cup of flavors to taste.
