Horrible place, Savannah is extremely rude. Avoid taking your dogs here! After 10 years of solid management and kind employees, totally changed now. Front desk girl, Savannah is confrontational and reacts as if you are interrupting her day whenever you call or inquire about your dog in THEIR care. Great experience and friendly, knowledgeable staff. We brought my father's 2 cats for boarding over Thanksgiving and were very grateful for the staff ensuring that boarded pets vaccines are up to date and also ensuring that every pet has been spayed/neutered. We paid extra for daily cuddles and care for both cats and due to one of our cats being extremely shy, they were not able to provide her with the daily cuddles, and I was refunded for the extra charge. I appreciate the honesty and we will definitely be using this facility in the future. read more

I wanted to bring my dog here so I spent time filling out everything online and setup a reservation. I was accepted on their website for boarding so I called to find out pricing and a suddenly, I was denied and my reservation was canceled. They stated that I needed to bring my dog in ahead of time and meet their staff to see if he would be accepted. This was impossible since I live out of state, which they knew ahead of time. Nowhere on their website did it mention this prerequisite. Waste of time and energy. read more

After my beloved camp bow wow closed I was left searching a new location for my dog. I called all around and no one would return my call. Then I was referred to Karnik and they were excellent, so quick and accommodating to get my diesel in even in a short time frame. After spending thousands of dollars on boarding over the past several years, we noticed their service and staff attitude has gone downhill lately. Management seems focused more on the policies that protect their interests over customer care. I have been talked to on the phone and in person like I was a child, even when they made mistakes. So we decided to vote with our feet and Karnik lost a valuable customer. We found there are a lot of pet boarding businesses in the area that are lower cost and more customer friendly. Too many businesses these days have forgotten that they are there to serve consumers, not the other way around. read more

Upon submitting a form to get a call back I attempted to pick up the phone when they called but was hung up on. When I attempted to call back I couldn't get patched through. The following day I called back and was rudely told I missed their call, despite me trying to call them back. And then they told me due to my cat having been on a screened in patio only 5 times, which he has gone to the groomer since he is not welcomed to stay there. read more

Contacted Karnik for 5-day boarding after having completed the on-line assessment, sent vaccination records, notes for care. Waited 5 days, no one contacted me so I called them and was told the dog needed canine flu vaccine and the person was emphatic that I would NOT find a kennel that would take her without this vac. My surgery is scheduled 2 weeks away and vaccine requires 2 injections spread out over 2-3 weeks, this was a problem as I had spoken with Karnik via phone and received info on boarding and no information about this vaccine requirement which is out of the scope of the required vacs. Called several other kennels as well as my Vet's office and every kennel said they would take my dog with one vaccine which could be accomplished this week. I called Karnik facility to let them know not to stress people who need to organize life events and person on phone became really animated and rude escalating voice to "I don't like the way you are talking to me" when I was being very civil. She hung up on me. Poor customer relations, disrespectful and unnecessary. The whole of society is in chaos, rude people are running these service industries and do not care that life events that are very stressful bring a client to their door. I am retired healthcare, and never would I disrespect an individual asking for my help and especially since I would be PAYING for it. If I could give a zero, I would. read more

While I liked the concept of Karnik Ann Arbor where the dogs can play all day instead of being kept in their rooms, I cannot recommend entrusting your pets care with them. The people were very nice and followed up with us the first couple of days so please don't take this review as an indictment on them. My problem is that I dropped off two very healthy puppies for a 10 day stay and when I picked them up they both had Giardia. The younger dog managed to get rid of the parasite with one round of treatment. The older puppy is on her third round of medications and nothing is helping her get relief. The diarrhea did not start until the last couple of days of their stay so I know it did not originate anywhere but there. We have been battling this for the past 6 weeks. Needless to say we will not be back. Very disappointed and VERY concerned for our babies! read more

Used this place 2 times to board our dog. First time she came home very tired which was not normal. Along with that she had cuts on your back legs. So we always give someplace a second chance. So we put her there again. My wife kept checking the cams to see her but never could find them out even checked various times of the day. Finally we are them out on the cam with about 15 dogs in one area and 1 employee in there with them. We search and find our dog walking around. Then we see another one trying to hump her. No big deal. So as my wife and son keep watching they see another dog start to bite her as she is being humped. Our dog then gets away and goes to lay down in the corner to be alone and these 2 dogs follow her again and do it again. We look for the employee and find her eating her lunch and not breaking it up. So my wife decided to call and have our dog put back into her cage. We tried to call for a HALF HOUR with the phone not being answered at ALL. So my wife called the Toledo office to see if they could help. They said they would tried to call them Nd have them call us. Within 10 minutes we got a call and we had her put in cage and they said they would do one on one time for her since we could not pick her up until the next day when we returned. I then picked up our dog the next morning and the manager could not believe it had happened and seemed upset by it. She advised us the regional manager would call us to discuss and we could send them the screens shots we have of it all. But we never received a call from anyone and did not get any type of discount for the problem. DO NOT TAKE YOU DOG THERE. WE WILL NOT BE BACK. Use rover.com they are cheaper. read more

I have been using Karnik Ann Arbor for at least 10 years and have never had any problems. However, this year, they refused to board my 13 year old dog because she is old and takes meds. I thought that boarding dogs is their business. I expected them to provide these type of accommodations otherwise why would they be so expensive? Additionally, they did not explain that they would add a vet fee every day for each animal. I was a returning client so I knew about it but someone new might be surprised by it. We came here a few years ago and were very unhappy with the service. We decided to give it another try since Camp Bow Wow closed and it was a horrible experience. They do not know how to handle large breed dogs and do the bare minimum. They could have called us to explain the problems they were having but did not bother to tell us until the end of the week boarding. Karnik offers poor pet care from a untrained and poorly managed staff. The staff is always new, the daycare is always crowded. Ask for a tour and don't let the colors foul you, things are dirty and just looking at the outdoor areas there are too many opportunities for something to go wrong, exposed insulation, poor ground cover, poor fensing. As a pet lover I just wanted to let all the people who are looking for "care" for their pet's that karnik is not the place to take them. read more

I've been taking my dog here since she was 5 months old. We love it here. She gets so excited to come to day camp and is so tired when she leaves, it's wonderful. She's about 10 months now, and we are getting ready to move and I will be so sad so say goodbye to Karnik. You can really tell that all the employees really care about the pets they take care of. They have a huge area for the dogs in day camp to play in, inside and outdoors. In the summer, the dogs can play in pools which is great because my puppy LOVES water. I've also boarded her there and she seems to do great. They have very clean facilities and I highly recommend! read more

Karnik is the best place you can go, not including personal dog sitters. The staff is courteous and caring. The prices are pretty good, but not excellent. Finally, my dog must be treated well while boarding at Karnik. I'll tell you why. My dog is never that excited to see me, which means that Karnik treats her pretty well. I'm a good owner, I swear. We have been bringing our dog Bella to Doggy Daycare for the past 3 years. It is such a relief to have somewhere she can go when we have to work long hours. The people working here are very friendly and know my Bella and me by name.They are always welcoming to us when we walk in the front door. During the day she has play time with all the other dogs at day care. They play outdoors when the weather allows. They have pools they fill up with water to let the digs cool off as needed too:) Bella absolutely loves this place with out a doubt. If we mention the word school she is running for the door! It is in fact a bit pricey so do beware of that. But for us its worth the money to know Bella is safe and sound and having a great time:) read more

We used them for a three night kennel. Our dog was happy and healthy when we picked him up. We paid for individual playtime with a human, which I hear he enjoyed. He was never in contact with any other dogs. That is for the day care dogs only. His "room" was a plastic and plexiglass cage with an automatic water well. The prices were competitive with others. The staff were very good. I called once during the trip to check on our dog and the staff was very knowledgeable about our dog and his needs. If I need a kennel again, I will definitely use them. read more

After reading other negative reviews, I have to concur. I wish I would have read them before taking my dog there. And I wish I had trusted my gut after looking at the pet cams of 12-15 dogs just wandering around, not interacting with each other or the employee who looked like she was on her phone. But I took my aussiedoodle there anyway. Yes, front desk staff is friendly. Prices are competitive and it's convenient to be able to just drop my dog off without a reservation. I watched my high energy, intelligent dog left to wander around the room without playing with any other dogs. (the other dogs were doing the same thing; looking anxious) The employee was just standing there. No interaction with any of the dogs. My dog comes home very anxious after a session at Karnik. it takes her a day to calm down. Still, I persisted; believing the hype and nice interior. After tryling for 6-7 times, I am done. It's just not worth it. Sorry Karnik. I won't be coming back. read more

I love Karnik, but more importantly, my dog loves Karnik! I have a high-energy dog who needs lots of play time and attention, so I take her to Karnik once a week. I am very impressed by this place- it is always clean, they have double doors to prevent dogs from escaping and getting lost (that happened to a friend of mine at Camp Bow Wow), and they have free food and treats for your dog if you request them. Every time I pick up my dog, I ask the staff how she did and they tell me what she did and what dogs she played with so I know they are paying attention. If you are considering a place to take your dog for day care, I highly recommend Karnik! Literally the best pet lodge ever! They are so good with my dog, Zeus. I'm able to watch him on the pet cams and he's always exhausted after playing with dogs when I pick him up :) If it's your dogs birthday you HAVE to let them throw the dog a birthday party, so worth it!!! read more

Karnik has been our go to place for our dog for he past 7 years. We love how they greet us every time we arrive and how well they know our pup. We hae a very anxious dachshound but she walks right in and goes to care when we get there. She is always happy and well takencare of when we pick her up. Went in to get a tour today and had a pretty bad experience. The woman could barely be bothered to give the rates let alone provide any information about the doggie daycare. When we asked for a tour she told us to look through the window. What we saw were bored dogs sitting on concrete with no toys or human interaction. We will be looking elsewhere. read more

Not sure about the previous post about Karnik not accepting bully breeds for overnights. I have a French Bulldog who has been going to Karnik for daycare once a week for over a year and the occasional overnight. While I must say there were some cleanliness problems in the past - i.e. my dog coming home from daycare with mud caked on him and his coat dusty. Those have been resolved in the past 4 months. I think they've had help from the home-office re-vamping their programs and my dog comes home happy and exhausted after each visit. He's always ECSTATIC when we pull in the parking lot as well and can't WAIT to get inside with the other dogs and handlers. Great place - I'd highly recommend. read more

Once again, this organization has shown just what dog snobs they can be. Each time we've tried to board a dog there, they show their inability to handle energetic dogs or their lack of understanding of minor health issues or caring for animals with the same. And today was no different. Unwilling to board a dog whose shots were updated recently. Oh well, PetSmart has always treated us well and was able to handle the animals without the snarky attitude. read more

Horrible customer service. I made an appointment for our dog with 5 days advanced notice. They required me to put down a $50 deposit. Had to cancel and did so with 24 hours notice, they refused to return my deposit because I didn't give them 7 days notice. First, the requirement to cancel the seven days notice was never explained. Second, since I made the appointment with five days notice the requirement to cancel before seven days is completely idiotic. When I explained this the customer service person, she was condescending and downright rude. Will NEVER use their service and will make sure to spread the word. Pitiful. read more

I'm amused by those touting Petsmart over Karnik. Why would anyone choose a wire cage with no opportunity for fresh air for your dog (Petsmart) over a roomy state of the art enclosure with outdoor time (Karnik)? Karnik remains the premier day care for our canine and feline family members. In fact the staff refers to them as "family members." I've heard of Karnik rejecting a dog because it bit someone, but I've seen them take dogs who were unruly and poorly trained. read more

I am impressed with Karnik. I brought my Basenji to Karnik for two multi-day stays. He is always really excited to go there. He is a high-energy dog and (with the purchase of a day-time extra package) gets to socialize a lot with other dogs. The staff are extremely friendly and attentive. While the complete package is pricey, I am impressed with the cleanliness of the place and the great deal of attention from the staff (they all know him, which is such a good sign!). I should also note that bringing your dog in for overnight stay with contact with other dogs is also opening up the floodgates for them getting sick. Of course, they require a fecal exam and bordatella shots, but both times I brought my baby home he came home with something. Karnik was extremely responsive to this - - I dropped off one of the vet bills and I got a certified check within one week in the mail! Just like daycare, animals can catch things during playtime (not due to negligence of the facility). I was just very impressed with the responsiveness of the staff in addressing this issue, without making one jump through a lot of hoops. All that to say: A bit pricey, but strongly recommended. I want to thank Ray Bauman. owner of Karnik Pet Lodge who sat with me and explained how company policy and procedures trumps customer care and satisfaction. How records of staff are more important and informative than an owners' recognition of their own pets condition. After our recent stay in which an elderly dog walked in and was carried out a week later and then euthanized with permanent nerve damage; their records show that the dog left in the same condition in which he arrived. By the owners own admission, it required three people to lift the dog to take him for a "walk" this apparently is not ABMORMAL enough to warrant a call to the vet to see if there is anything wrong. Because I did not recall the exact size of the baggies in which meds where dispersed, then I must be lying about finding the extra meds in the bottom of the box with the extra dog food that was not given to the dog. Their records show that the meds were given as needed even though they called and told us they ran out of those meds. Was any apology offered? Was any explanation given to discrepancies between the records and reactions of our pets' health when we pick him up? Was any offer made to sit and review how things could have gone better so other dogs would not suffer similar situations? No, all I got was corporate rhetoric on how well we treat our guests according to policy and what good people we are. Corporate policy is primary in this location. The customer is not right and if you dogs needs more than food and water, my advise is to look elsewhere. read more

Although this is a place for cats and large dogs, it is not set up for small dogs. My toy poodle was terrified and came back to me soaking wet after a couple of hours. The need for cleaning trumps a dog's own bed and toys. There are people there but not playing with or talking to the dogs. The last time, I was late to cancel a stay, and they charged my card $100 but didn't tell me on the phone. Obviously all they care about is the money. Forget them. read more

They don't encourage you to bring your pet's own food, own bedding, or own toys. The food especially is alarming- a dog will get sick if you suddenly start feeding them something else! I realize it makes it easier on the staff, but I have never seen a boarding facility that did this, simply because it's bad for the dogs. read more

I recently sent in an online request to Karnik in Ann Arbor and was denied for absolutely no concrete reason. I believe this is borderline discrimination and the woman I talked to was the rudest and most unprofessional individual I have ever engaged with in customer service. I called Karnik in Ann Arbor to follow-up on my reservation request and the woman told me there was no way they would be able to take my dog because I had boarded him at the Karnik in Toledo and labeled him as a "Do Not Handle." I would never put anyone or any dog in danger of an aggressive dog, but I explained to this woman that I had labeled him as a "Do Not Handle" previously because it was my dog's first time being boarded and I wasn't sure how he would act. While my dog was staying at Karnik in Toledo for five days, I called numerous times throughout his stay to check on him and to see how he was behaving. The girls always told me the same thing; that my dog was very shy, but behaving just fine. The general manager even said she sat outside his kennel with him and tried to play with him. I never received a notice or call that he was aggressive or had any issues. After this experience, I felt confident that he wouldn't need a special facility for "aggressive dogs." When I explained this to the woman at Karnik in Ann Arbor, she said she actually spoke to the girls at the Toledo location. I asked, "What did they say? Because they told me he had no problems." She responded, "Well..they said he was scared to death. We just can't take your dog. It won't work out." I actually drove to PetSmart that night with my dog and checked out the boarding services there. The girl at the counter was very nice and listened to my concerns about my dog being shy. She didn't have any issues with my dog staying with them. Like I said, bad customer service is one thing, but I believe me and my dog have been discriminated against. I understand that I was the one who previously labeled him as "Do Not Handle," but instead of listening to my story and being willing to see my dog in person, this woman turned me away without a legitimate reason other than a "He said-She said" excuse. It's a real shame that I was treated this way because I would have gone back to Karnik in Toledo, but now I refuse to do business with any of the establishments.
