Karnitas Korner is the latest restaurant to throw its hat into the increasingly jampacked Kapitolyo food scene. Located in the quieter side of Kapitolyo, it's a bit of a challenge to find. The food, however, will more than make up for any hassles you may have experienced while looking for this resto.
The signature dish of Karnitas Korner is the Porchetta. If you don't know what this is, think of it as your boneless Lechon, but with different herbs and spices. They feature the Porchetta on EVERYTHING. Topped on rice, in a sandwich, on pasta, even on tacos, you name it. I was half-expecting a Porchetta shake. Just kidding, I wasn't. That would be so wrong.
Anyway, I went for the Porchetta topped on rice. A steaming hot bowl of porky goodness greeted me. The waitress told me to mix everything up and add pepper and spices to taste, so I did as I was told.
Damn. DAMM. Now THAT was a wonderful slab of meat.
The Porchetta was packed with flavor, soft and yielding, just salty and savory enough not to be overwhelming. Fantastic balance, I have to say. I'd love to see how the Porchetta would fare in a sandwich and in a taco, but I bet it's a homerun.
The most insane detail in all of this was that, at P185, this meal was a steal. In fact, there was no item on the menu that went over P185. Nothing. Nada. Zip. You could bring a date here and have a good meal for two under P500. It's a bit of a squeeze, but it can be done. Incredible.
I'm definitely coming back. They did have a stacked menu with other items, and I'm liking my chances with this resto. But for now, I'll be dreaming of that wonderful Porchetta. read more
