It was our second day in the Philippines. We were craving for Filipino dishes that were local favorites for breakfast so we checked this place out. It's a small restaurant and staff are friendly. Unfortunately they ran out of so many items such as longanisa, eggs, tapa so a bit disappointing. Food was good had tocino instead and ordered hazelnut coffee. Hole in the wall places like this offers good food at an affordable price. This came highly recommended by my brother but the tapa was a bit hard to chew. Tocino was good and tasty. We came at 10Am on a Monday and there was no line. The servers were friendly. Note that you have to go up the the cashier and order your food and they bring the food out for you. We got the porkbelky, longganisa and a side of garlic honey chicken. Was in Manila for five days and had Kanto Freestyle Breakfast twice! Once dine-in, once for delivery and both times were great experiences! I love the indoor/outdoor vibe of the resto & the service here is great, though the food does takes a little bit of time to come out. My first time, I ordered the New Zealand Beef Tapa and it was soooo flavorful. Tapsilog is my fave so this breakfast really hit the spot. The dish comes with garlic rice, egg and tomatoes topped with pesto. The fresh tomato really lightened up the dish, considering how heavy the other components were. Our second experience with Kanto was through delivery. Our Sunday morning delivery order took a little under an hour to get to the condo. I went with the crispy corned beef. I've never had crispy corned beef and I loved it. Kanto is where you go for homey, affordable, feel-good breakfast food. Best thing is they are open at all hours! read more

Favorites from the Kanto Boy selection (also know as Silog meals) : Crispy Corned Beef (P110), Spanish Sardines Tempura (P110), and New Zealand Beef Tapa (P125) Each plate is served with freestyle egg whether you like it scrambled, sunny side up, or POACHED. Eggs Benedict is a good choice too. You can choose your own viand with freestyle menu and make your own breakfast plate. I like everything with bacon and I pair it with waffles for P120. I got disappointed with the Scramble drink. It's my favorite shaved ice drink back in grade school. Kanto's ice scramble tastes extra sweet, it is literally a sugar in a cup. read more

I set out to do a breakfast catch-up with a friend who works in Kapitolyo, and came to Kanto because she'd been wanting to try it. Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good - even though I've read that there's usually a line, when we arrived we were seated without waiting. The centerpiece of our breakfast was what the waiter told us is their most popular selection by far - NZ Beef Tapa, with sides of longganisa and honey chicken. My friend and I were quite disappointed with this dish - it was largely tasteless and more than a bit greasy. The only saving grace was the honey chicken, which tasted quite good, though it was a shade too sweet. Tip: Ordering extra sides here can be an excellent idea; in our case, as the main dish wasn't to our liking, we still enjoyed a substantial portion of their honey chicken. Service here is fast and efficient; maybe a bit too much so, as even when the lines aren't particularly long, there seems to be a bit too much focus on table turnover to allow a relaxed dining experience. read more

Almost everything on their menu is less than Php100.xx. Let me say that again in case you didn't understand: ALMOST EVERYTHING ON THEIR MENU IS LESS THAN ONE HUNDRED PESOS. Okay, let me clarify in case this isn't having the impact it deserves. Their menu is three pages long. They offer all-day breakfast meals -- silogs, pancakes, specialty coffees, and such. And except for three things (New Zealand Beef Tapa, Pork & Beans with Crispy Pork and Poached Eggs, and the Pancake Platter, which are all less than Php200.xx), nothing breaches the Php100.xx mark. And the best part is the staff there will always greet you 'good morning' when you walk through the door, no matter what time it is. Kanto Freestyle serves "sosyal" breakfast food. It's open for 24 hours and it has branches in Marikina and Eastwood too. It's one of the few restaurants in Manila that serves breakfast ALL day. If you LOVE breakfast food, this is the BEST place for you! The place is homey and simple, and al fresco that adds to the cozy feel of the restaurant. During my first visit, we had the New Zealand Beef Tapa, Bacon Congee and Mixed Berry Pancakes. The meal prices are reasonable (around Php95-120 per dish) considering the food presentation and taste. Personally, I found the Tapa too salty and a bit tough. I enjoyed the mixed berry pancakes! I love eating sweet food in the morning, so pancakes are always a treat for me. :D The Bacon congee was unexpected. You could actually taste bacon in every spoonful. It's one of the dishes that I would order when I need some comfort food. I also like their Oreo Cookie Butter Pancakes because it's two of my favorite snacks on pancakes. Happiness! In my opinion, I recommend Kanto Freestyle as a place to eat when you want to save money but still have tasty filling food. Took a star out for service. They're packed and that's a good problem to have. Just be sure you're willing to wait it out. If Nori across the street is open, it's also a good alternative if you can't wait for a spot to open in Kanto. Always be sure they have the ingredients to what you'll order. I've had a handful of experiences were they didn't tell me they ran out of a certain ingredient till after 15-20mins of sending the order in. This, I truly think can be easily fixed--and it should. Unplanned double dates were the best! It was because of our couple friend AC and Vell who brought us here. The place was nice at night, with yellow bulbs hanging at the diner. It was dimly lit, no aircon, the place was averagely sized. The walls were adorned with vintage capiz windows. One of the best hole-in-the-wall I've been to. I first encountered Kanto Freestyle Breakfast when a few of my friends were raving about it and set a meeting there. So I arrived and it was literally in the kanto (English translation "corner") of the street. This amused me for some reason. Probably also because I hardly eat in the streets of Manila. Of course I had to order their Beef Tapa since this is my favorite breakfast treat!Their tapa is reaaaaally good and tasty. Probably the best part about it is that it's less than 100 pesos! It's so cheap that you can keep on eating and eating and you won't even feel guilty about splurging so much. Sure, you'll feel guilty about eating way too much but, who cares? My dad and I were out late (yet again) and hungry (yet again) so we decided to finally give Kanto Freestyle Breakfast a try. We were quite lucky when we got there and got a table at once. I ordered the hashbrown topped with poached eggs and a glass of scramble. This is probably the most satisfaction I've had for a meal that cost me less than PhP150. The hashbrowns were cooked perfectly - crunchy and golden brown on the outside and immaculate inside. Topped with eggs that are poached well, it's as close to cheap-food perfection as it can get. The side of tomatoes with dollops of pesto is a good "refresher" between bites to cleanse the palate. The scramble? Holy moley their scramble! It's as good as I remember scramble from my childhood. Pinoy breakfast, all day every day, any damn day? Fuck yeah, I'm down with that. Kanto Freestyle Breakfast operates on the premise of serving cheap Pinoy/Western breakfasts 24/7 without breaking the bank. You also have the option to design your own breakfast plate according to your specifications. My personal favorite of theirs has to be the Tuyo with Kesong Puti alongside sinangag, 2 sunny side-up eggs malasado style, and a serving of those tomatoes with a smattering of pesto. I personally like to add extra kesong puti to offset the saltiness of the tuyo, and extra tomatoes, too. Their servings are actually really big, so you can get full on less than 150 pesos! It's a great place I like to go to after work with my colleagues whenever we're in need of comfort food. read more

I'm under quarantine in one of the hotels in Ortigas Center until tomorrow. But the restaurant in our hotel does not open until 8am. Unfortunately, I'm still jetlagging and hungry at the wrong hours of the night. I found the 24 hour Kanto Freestyle Breakfast on Yelp. So I called my driver and made him pick up some breakfast orders for us, three breakfasts in a row. These are my reviews of the different breakfasts that we tried over the several days that we were in quarantine: A favorite of many was the Tuyo with White Cheese. It was good, but a little too salty for me. The Crispy Corned Beef was a winner with its crispy outside and yummy insides. The New Zealand Beef Tapa was tasty and also good. The Pampanga Tocino was okay. Not too sweet and the meat was tender. But the best of them all was the Eggs Benedict. I have been eating Eggs Benedict in the different breakfast joints and coffee shops in the Bay Area for the last few months and the Kanto Eggs Benedict can rank side by side with all of them. The only difference is the pandesal that it goes with (instead of English muffin) and the slab of hash browns that go with the American breakfasts. What is amazing is the super reasonable price of all the different breakfasts. Makes you wonder how they can make money and still serve such great food. Although the prices shown in their printed menu are different from what is charged (P145 for the New Zealand Beef Tapa instead of the printed P110), they are still super duper low compared to other breakfast joints around town. Kape Kano at P45 a cup ranks with the brewed American coffee of Starbucks, although a little smaller in size. Even after I get out of quarantine, I will continue to try the other breakfasts that they serve. We need to patronize places like Kanto Free Style Breakfast. May your tribe increase! read more

Completely unsatisfied. Arrived at 8:30am, get lined up for order as no tables yet at 9:15am and then food served at 10:15am. So apparently takes an hour for food to be prepared. Nothing spectacular, just a glorified carinderia with such long lines to get in due to terribly slow and poor service. Mas OK pa nga turo-turo, mas mabilis. The food variety is good but pretty average. The wait time is over an hour, even though they had several vacant tables. The wait time to get your food was even longer than that. I admit, I should have left after waiting so long just to get seated. The last straw was waiting to get my extra garlic rice for 30 mins. When it finally arrived, I had to send it back. A lot of people kept talking about Kanto Freestyle Breakfast when it finally opened a branch in Kapitolyo. My friends told me that it was quite good and there was always a line so you had to have good timing. I finally had the chance to try the food there when my friends asked me out for dinner. It was basically an all day Filipino breakfast place. I really love breakfast food so I knew I would enjoy this meal. I did indeed and ever since I would always order their New Zealand Beef Tapa or the Tuyo with Kesong Puti! I just love those two dishes in their menu the most. Both are served with two eggs, garlic rice, and tomato pesto. The tapa is just so good and with the taste, you know it's quality beef. The tuyo really goes well with the quesong puti. It's just that the cheese balances out the saltiness of the fish. I just really love eating at Kanto for their really yummy and budget friendly meals! I'm indeed a loyal customer! read more
