Shopped here for over forty years. Times change, as do prices, but it's terrific to go to a store that often stocks local veg/fruit and locally sourced meat. So happy that it's not an enormous cavern that an old person can navigate easily, and find what she's looking for without walking ten miles. Had the worst Italian sub I have ever had last night. Plenty of lettuce, but not much in the meat and cheese departments. No condiments, the roll was big and soft, but average at best. Ten bucks, never again. The hot foods used to be a great place to get a quick meal. Now, when I look at the hot food, and just think it is dry and old. No thanks. Pronio's Market in the village of Hershey is a much better choice. read more

Since I'm new to PA, I'm still figuring out what's what and who's who. After visiting nearly all the grocery stores and markets in the area, I've decided that Karns is more often the freshest and best quality choice for meat, vegetables, and bakery items. At first I was a bit put off by things like having all their fresh meat behind a meat counter. I'm accustomed to running my own hands through piles of prepackaged hamburger or ribs, but at Karns you'll need to speak to the butcher even for something simple like a pound of hamburger. I quickly learned that this minor inconvenience is more than offset by the freshness and taste of the meat. Similarly I now look forward to seeing what fresh veggies and baked goods they have on offer. Something else that I admire is the company's willingness (so it seems) to hire people from the margins of the labor market. It reflects an intentional effort (I believe) by the company to think more creatively about the impact businesses can have in society. read more

Only been in this store a handful of times for specific items not offered elsewhere. Everytime, the front end female cashiers are unpleasant, irrational and make me never want to go in there again. Evelyn gave me an issue on a coupon that i ripped off a yogurt. She said I couldn't use it, because the cashier needs to rip it. The coupon showed the bar code, but she still made an issue about it, since I breached it. She then asked me for my karma card. I waited to see the opportunity to punch my phone number in, and she gave me the total. $72 I told her "I'm waiting for the screen to pop up to put my number in" She told me "it's too late" It was then that I realized that this particular old woman was unnecessarily causing issues that didn't exist. She didn't even try to scan the coupon code, nor wanted me to get any discounts. I cancelled my order. She told me I was rude. I told her that her manners are disgraceful. I then went to Giant. - spent less. The prior, self check out, I had a woman argue about a sale price, that rang up differently. She made me wait minutes while she walked all the way to the frozen section to see the large posted sale sign. Shook my head. Twilight zone. People in other departments seem to be more pleasant. It's only the front end. I won't be back. Ever. And I live up the road. read more

I visit seldom as it's a half hour trip one way. But if you need the best bacon around this is the place. The tag " the meat people " is appropriate as they have some of the best a carnivore would want. Grocery " veg and fruit " is so so. But almost the entire back wall is either deli, fish, a small fried chicken area, raw pork, beef , and poultry none of it prepackaged floating in some fluid or other. Local dairy is available and cream that is only cream no additives in glass jars. I've made butter from it. They have some Eastern Europe items in the isles and the side wall is every type of dog and sausages. Like I say a bit out of my way but for the once a month trip we'll worth it. read more

I ordered a birthday cake for my daughter's 16th birthday. Went ti.puck it up and it had some balloons on it ith icing and sprinkles. Tasted like a stale previously frozen cake defrosted and Happy 16th Birthday on top. Never again. Giant from now on. read more

I used to work at the bakery department and the cakes used to be very professional and beautiful looking. however I preferred a cake and picked it up this morning and the writing was terrible, and the flowers were ugly. why would you pick orange flowers for a peanut butter icing. read more

Stopped in for milk and spent 15 minutes browsing. Huge salad bar. A little cafe inside the store. Large butcher shop. Decent sized bakery. Seemed to have a lot of local foods. Lots of brands I've never seen before. read more

2nd time cake was wrong. First time it wasn't the same cake as ordered. This time the cake writing was missing the "Happy birthday." My 8 year old at her party said look they wrote it on the bottom of of the side of cake covered by the box. The store said the cake looked better. I never thought I'd have to ask for the top of the cake to be where the writing went. Never again. 2 times is a enough of having to argue with the 75 yr old sales clerk. read more

I generally think of Karn's as a place that has everything. I purchased 4 lobster tails for New Year's Eve. One had a black film all over it. It was clearly bad. I am now very concerned about getting anything there from the seafood or deli area. read more

In the hot food section the Chicken tenders are great ! Fresh crisp and not dry... Probably the best I've had in PA - though only at this location as I have been to two Karns on the West Shore and they are nothing like these chicken tenders. read more

The people at Karns are lovely and helpful. They work as a team and seem to like being there. The store has developed a wider variety of stock in the last couple of years, and that's great. Unfortunately, some of that variety is priced so high that I can't really afford to purchase from it. The Karns produce section is generally very good and very local. But wow, does that half of the store smell bad! I can't figure out what rotted or molded over there, but something went bad some time ago, and I really wish they'd deal with it. It hits you immediately when you enter; I think their employees must be noseblind to the odor. A lot of my neighbors told me they have "the best meat selection. I've not found that to be true, but they do make lots of different sausages in the store and they carry a pretty good range of beef and pork. They have far less poultry and very little organic meat, which is a disappointment. Seems like given how much they work locally, they might be able to do better there. I haven't used the relatively small bakery because their offerings don't look very good. I wish they'd make some really hearty breads and cakes that don't look quite so gooey. But their ice cream section is stellar. And it's nice to have a wine store attached, even though it's small and governmental, at least for now. read more

Had to give at least 1 star in order to write a review otherwise I'd give zero stars. Karns smells like seafood left outside all day in the hot august sun. Smells worse every time I go in there. They pride themselves on their fresh meat but you could probably get better meat in a sewer or the side of the road. Chicken is filled with cartilage and the ground meat is as dry as the Sahara. The Neanderthals working in the meat market like to harass customers, so if you're into that kinda thing, then head on in. Scary place all around. read more

I have learned that each of the Karns stores vary from location to location. This includes cleanness and staff. Mechanicsburg location has one of the best butch shops and staff in the county. They do lack in aesthetics. Very small home town store feel. Karns in Lemonye, PA Rocks. I give it 5 stars. Newer store, very clean. Larger store, larger selection. read more

The worst lunch I've EVER had. Wanted a soup & sandwich & got hot dishwater & slop. Italian Wedding soup made with a ton of rosemary or a bay leaf left in the dishwater & a combo Italian sandwich with terrible macaroni salad. The pickled egg & beet were so old....!!! Told the supervisor who showed no concern other than "did you get your money back. I was robbed of the $11.00 dollars I spent. THE STORE LOOKED SO WORN OUT & unappealing. To start with, it smelled like something died in the back of the store and they tried to cover the smell with another offensive smell. They have a limited selection of Boars Head deli items and the rest is low quality slime loaf. Many items were overpriced. read more

We were having some not so pleasant experiences with restaurants so we stopped on our way home to find something to prepare for our Sunday lunch. As we walked in the delicious aroma coming from the Deli were overpowering. So, we purchased our food there as we finished our grocery shopping. BTW, they always have the best meat department also. The food smelled so good through the check out and then in the car on the way home. I could hardly wait to get home. The people working in the Deli were very nice and actually knew how to be friendly. That is a rarity here in Central PA. Restaurants that want to rebuild their losses from the Covid shutdown should be better than they ever were before in quality and service . read more

Here's to the little guy! I am a donut man, so the first thing I got to give a shout out to is the bakery. lots of different kinds! But the best part is how many different kinds of peanut butter they have. the store is a set up a little odd, but the kindness of the employees, the quality of their meat department, their bulk section and their bakery make up for it. they ever make their own peanut butter there, just peanuts no extras. overall it is a great store read more

I worked here for 4 years. Great people to work for, and I loved it. But It's not as nice as Wegman's or Trader Joes. This is a nice family style store with good meats and fresh produce. A little more expensive than Giant. read more

One of the first Karn's I started going to while I lived in Swatara, Pa. Great little family run store with reasonable prices. Right next to the Hershey Med center so some of the prices are a little more expensive compared to other Karns in the area. But a clean, quiet store with enough deals and convinces of pre-made food and a nice little restaurant on the side. I do love the decorations around the store. Family run stores I enjoy shopping at because they are very homey and just rich with history. I will always support a small business if they are running it the right way! read more

If your looking for fresh meats!! This is your place---Fresh meat counter is loaded with freshness and Friendly workers behind the counter. Managers in the past have always happy to help me w/issues .. I had awesome experience Saturday(reason im writing).---There was 5$ off coupon sent via email and my printers werent working at work (as usual) .Once you try to do it twice the error comes up that coupon was printed so I couldnt redeem coupon in future. Well Im an honest person and wouldnt try and get more than my allotted 1 coupon anyway, ---So I mentioned this at customer service while buying lottery tickets and The Nice Girl behind the Service desk listened to my story and checked me out and gave me the $5 off at checkout.Wow this made my day and confirmed my choice in using Karns for Shopping!!! Been going to the Karns in Etters, PA where I have been undecided if the over priced items are worth the convenience. But today I just may have gotten my answer. I had just grabbed some shrimp and I think the lady working behind the poultry counter thought I was waiting in line to pick up some poultry.. I totally understand how she may have thought that, but I was waiting to see what direction the gentleman ahead was doing due to social distancing. That lady working behind the poultry counter was RUDE. As a person who has worked in customer service my whole life I can tell you this....You NEVER speak to some one like she did. You kindly inquire if the person is looking for something and if so give some direction of the customer flow. I understand how times right now are crazy and stressful... but it's also a time for people to be more kind to each other because you just don't know their situation. Over priced rudeness. read more

Best meats at best prices. Bar none. They also have tons of great deals on other stuff if you look for the karns saver deals. Critical feedback would be on produce, but when (rarely) I need some specialty produce I go elsewhere. But karns gets 90% of my grocery/home dollars. read more

This store was great when Fox's owned it. The place has a rotten meat smell and for good reason. We just returned rotten steaks to them and this is the 5th time we've gotten rotten meat at this store. The manager doesn't seem to really care and apparently the meat manager is not too informed on meat freshness. No more of Karn's garbage meats for us and they do not have the best meats as advertised. Wegman's here we come! read more
