One of my friends made a post a few months back about this group needing volunteers to help assist…read morewith building doggie enclosures, so I jumped at the chance to help. This Non-Profit helps dogs that are chained up, by giving them a spacious enclosure and getting them "off the chain". They are non-judgmental with the owners, only looking to better the welfare of the dogs. They have a FB volunteer page where you can sign up to assist with the builds. All their build supplies come from donations or from buying their shirts/hats. The build staff is wonderful, and you don't need to know anything about putting up fences to help jump in. Most builds take about 1-2 hours and are closer to the Athens area of town. Each build consists of making a spacious fenced-in enclosure, with one area designated for sleeping (it also has a canopy for when it rains and area for shade). A water bucket is provided, igloo home, dog cot, food and toys for the doggie. I had the opportunity to do 2 builds thus far and volunteer helping run a table at a one of their events. You get the hang of it after one build, and you meet some wonderful people in the process. Also, the dogs seem so much happier once they get into their area and can run around freely. If you're looking for a way to give back and love dogs, this is the perfect opportunity! Most builds happen 1-2 times per month, and typically 9am-12pm Saturday or Sunday AM. After the exam, I was told straight up that my dog didn't need dental cleaning, so I could not book the service. I decided to purchase heartworm preventatives using their online pharmacy, but after EIGHT attempts in a month to get the medication, the order was rejected EVERY SINGLE TIME by their veterinarian. Each time the reason was that there was a prescription on file already so they could not approve an order request, but there WAS no prescription on file to begin with. All I can assume is that Pawproject wants my dog to get heartworm infection and die. I hate Pawproject and will report them to the Georgia Board of Veterinary Medicine. Don't go there.

Early last year, we lost our beloved family dog, Jack, a mini dachshund. We had him since he was a puppy, almost sixteen years. The loss left a giant hole in our hearts. After that, we didn't think we would have another dog. But if you've had pets your entire life, you know that not having them makes your home, well, less of a home. So we started looking for another dog. We came across a little pup online, thought it would be perfect, and made our first contact with Dirt Road Doggies Rescue. From that moment, we were in excellent hands. As it turned out, the dog we were initially interested in had been adopted. So Dirt Road Doggies Rescue helped us find a different dog, but most importantly, the right dog for us. Well, doggies, actually. We ended up falling in love with a little bonded pair of chi-weenies and decided to adopt them both. We'd never adopted before, and though their adoption process is stringent (to protect the pups!), they made it easy. And simply put, they bent over backward to help make the adoption process smooth and convenient for us. They genuinely have the best interests of their rescue dogs at heart, down to the care package of necessities and goodies they brought for the doggies upon our adoption finalization. It is apparent how devoted they are to rescuing and finding just the right families for their dogs.
