I came here during my holiday from America. The food was outstanding. Definitely, the best mango lassi I have ever had. We ordered many things on the menu, but my favorite was the Naga chicken. The appetizers were pretty great too. We got the spicy Papadom, pakoras, and also some samosas. All in all we had a wonderful time and we definitely recommend this place. read more

I have ordered from this place and eaten in the restaurant multiple times (30-40 deliveries and eaten in 4-5 times) the delivery times are better than expected but the chicken specifically seems to be crunchy and off half the time and the other half it seems to be pretty good. This is my go-to place for Indian in Canterbury, but I know that it'd probably be small beans in London or Manchester. It's fine for what it is here, though. First, the good. The service is usually solid, and unlike most other Indian places in Canterbury, walk-up seating is usually OK. The food has always been good, and there's a wide variety of dishes. It's noticeable that the spicing has been toned down in a lot of them -- what should melt your tongue off merely comes across as just-so hot. I do love that each table gets its own hot plate, to keep food warm. Like most Indian places, Kashmir offers everything a la carte. It gives you maximum flexibility with your meal, but it adds up fast. Get papadams, naan, a curry, rice and then either a dessert or some finger-food sides, plus a drink, and you're staring down the barrel of £20. At £3 a pop, drinks can add up big time. I suggest ordering water. Now, the not-so-good. The portions are all over the place. A chicken tikka masala dish fits in a small-to-medium bowl, while a similarly priced bhuna curry takes up half the hot plate. I've never had a problem with too much or too little rice or bread, but they can definitely be a bit stingy with some of the mains. Overall, it's worth giving it a go. It's definitely one of the busier restaurants in the city, so I imagine that the local clientele isn't too fussed about the muted spicing! read more

YUM YUM YUM! Thats pretty much my review in all honesty. Not only do they have a great chef, they have really friendly staff. Drinks are great too and everything well priced. They also do a take away/ delivery service. The guy who delivers is an absolute gem and he always used to bring it out late to me when i finished work late and phoned up asking if there was a chance of a deliveryalways a yes. This is the very best curry house in Canterbury. The food is always excellent and the service is friendly and prices good. Several of the curry places in Canterbury have been refurbished and turned into stylish, minimalist places- this is not one of them. The outside looks past its best, but do not be put off. It gets very busy, especially later evening at weekends. The chicken korma is a must for children or Indian food novices as it is delicious and creamy. read more

Fab curry is right here - you don't need to go anywhere else in my opinion. Although they do a great line in take away and deliveries, this place scores highly on its restaurant service. Small, intimate and atmospheric sum the place up. The service is great - I always try something different here when I go, and they are really good at telling me what I would like, or getting me to be daring - and it always pays off. Everyone says it's the best in town, I'm not sure how it is compared to the other Indian restaurants in Canterbury but I don't understand the hype about this place. If it is in fact the best, I never want to eat Indian while in Canterbury. As a former food writer for the Los Angeles Times, compared to the Indian food I'm used to from India and/OR Los Angeles, this place sucked big time. Seriously lacked the proper spices. The Methi Gosht was the only thing that tasted remotely Indian in terms of spices. For a place specializing in Balit dishes, the Balti Chicken Shashlik made us raise our eyebrows with the thoughts of "....really? you have to be kidding." It tasted like something anyone can whip up in their kitchen without prior knowledge of Indian cooking. Garlic Chicken Masala tasted alright but like everything the portions were ridiculously small, the order of rice they give you is a joke (it's like 3 scoops using a FORK, spread over a plate giving you the illusion of more). The samosa, don't bother ordering--the dough it was fried in was an eggroll wrapper, the filling was sparse and practically nonexistent, and no seasoning whatsoever! Where's the cumin? Coriander? ....SALT? The garlic naan had no flavor, as the dough was definitely not seasoned, again... is the chef allergic to salt? Waitress was aggressive, cheeky, and domineering. We will never come back here again. And I would probably proscribe this place to everyone I know. AVOID INDIAN IN CANTERBURY--at least at Kashmir. Two stars cause the drinks weren't too expensive, the waitstaff minus our waitress was nice, and the desserts LOOKED good. read more

We ate here one evening in early December 2014 and my soon to be 90 year old father-in-law loved it so much we booked for his 90th Birthday at the beginning of February 2015. Stars all around for the food and care for all guests ranging from 3 years to 90 years. We returned to the restaurant a few nights later as we love the starter they serve here. Canterbury has some of the worst curry in the south of England. This curry house is average at best. The best thing I had was Aloo Chaat which was lovely. My curry and daal were acceptable but nothing special. The paratha was truly awful, inedible. It felt soggy, and raw, like it hadn't been cooked for long. Good paratha is crispy, with savoury taste. This paratha tasted bland, and the dough smelled bad. Disappointing bread and average to below average curry. Honestly cheaper and better to make your own round these parts. read more

This is a really nice indian restaurant opposite the kings school in palace street, Canterbury, and unlike the chains the food and the atmosphere really is authentic very nice My friend and I ordered for starters a Fish chat pure which was really nice, for the main course we shared Tandoori mix grill and balti ck shaslik which was very good The food was served reasonably quickly and it was hot The drinks were nice as well with proper indian beer for my friend. For dessert we had the mango colfi and I am still licking my lips from remembering eating this. A really nice place to eat The cost was just as reasonable around 20 to 22 for the two of us. Very nice food and a great atmosphere. The staff are very helpful and quite informative - we didn't know what certain stuff on the menu was so when we asked they were very helpful. We went with 2 young children who do not like spicy food so they were great with helping us pick out things that would not burn their mouths off! Good price - it came to around £25 for the two adults and just £15 for the two children plus £15 of drinks, so a good family night out. read more

It doesn't look much from the outside, and there is no attached car park, but once inside, my opinion changed. There was a pleasant ambience - the place was quite busy on this Thursday evening; yet the service was prompt and friendly. The meals were pronounced very good both by myself and my companion, and the price was reasonable. We shall no doubt be back. read more

best ever, food is very nice excellent service

On a recent visit to Canterbury, we decided it was time to choose Indian cuisine for the meal before heading home. Some reviews of this establishment suggested it would be a reasonable choice. I have to say it isn't for the faint hearted. If you like your indian restaurant to be extremely busy, a little compact and with rapid service then it could be a choice for you. In fairness I must say the food was very flavoursome and as close to authentic as I have experienced in the UK, having spent some time in the Madras region of India. However, our experience was spoiled somewhat by a couple of things. Firstly it was evident the place was in chaos, something not helped by the gentleman who turned out to be the owner. He frequently visited the preparation area to bark loud orders at the waiting staff and kitchen in a mix of english and some Indian dialect. He didn't seem at all concerned that the entire restaurant heard this ranting. Unfortunately our table was rather close to this event so we witnessed it all at close quarters. This was a little unnerving. Our order was miscommunicated to the kitchen and the wrong main was delivered to our table. The staff did quickly sort this out and did apologise however. Food sorted out, we enjoyed the meal and found no issues with it. Until, that is, it came to desert time. The most common option, a Kulfi, was out of stock, so we settled for just coffees. A couple of times during the evening, we were presented with a bill, not our own but one delivered in error to a wrong table. When our bill did arrive at the appropriate time it contained details of the food and drink we had, but the total was higher than the sum of the items. Management had added their own service charge, which we'd decided not to pay earlier in the evening. The service which many speak of highly was found to be utterly non-existant during our visit beyond the point where the order was taken. No-one asked if we liked the food, if it was to our taste, or if we'd like anything else. Indeed when we had the desert menu it was taken back before we ordered anything from it! The restaurant owner seemed to care about little else than taking money and shuffling people in and out as quickly as he could get away with. Possibly so that they didn't notice how tired the decor was, or that the awards display mentioned nothing beyond 2005. In summary, we will NOT be going back there. read more

I'm not really sure what the other two reviews are about, because this is by far the best Indian in canterbury. Not the type of indian i would recommend for your boring tikka masala or korma, but if you love hot food then its the best; the specials like the naga, mirch masala and korai are our favourites. To be fair you will struggle to find an amazing balti outside of ladypool road in birmingham, but it still has flavour, where they can be bothered to use more than one stock for every dish. I've never had a problem with the portions, eating in or out, and you will struggle to finish a curry, rice and naan each. The prices are standard for canterbury, but you will find that on Just-eat you can get 20% off takeaways most days of the week (you can also use your tastecard at the restaurant). The service has always been great and they've even been kind enough to give us discounts on saturdays when we have cheekily asked. read more
