Its a family run business that really does pride itself on making you feel welcome once inside. I've traveled quite extensively around Greece and this place really does its best to reflect the hospitality you get out there. We always go there for lunch and have a couple of lamb Souvlakis as it really does take you back to Athens! They do a lot of dishes for two to share at some really good prices. I saw a seafood mixed grill float past me that looked really impressive. Great for large parties but do watch out for the Ouzo - it catches up on you after a few!

However, the two things that must be ordered here are the hummus with the warm pita bread and the spinach and feta borek. I could have continued eating that combination for a year. The hummus was so smooth, yet so flavorful it felt like butter and tasted like authentic hummus. The hummus, borek, and friendly staff make me give it four stars. The rest of the food, however, holds it back from five stars.

Perfect for when the summer arrives. Certainly not the case today. Lovely welcome by the front of house manager. Obviously a very Italian influenced restaurant as all the staff we saw were Italian. I learned later that it was a family run business, and it showed in the service. Nothing was too much for them. As I said, we popped in for a snack and ordered a drink and mussels with a portion of fries (very Belgian, my heritage). The mussels were chosen from the starters menu. When they arrived they were in a delicious cream and chilli sauce. The quantity was outstanding. Starter???? We have been in restaurants where this quantity was a main course. With a choice of toasted bread slices. The fries were magnificent and, also, enough for two people. As we ate the chef came past and asked if we liked the mussels 'the way my mama taught me'. 'Use your spoon for the suppa'. A great character and he did know his trade. A very interesting menu and we will return in the evening, some time, to try their main menu. And they brought out pickled veggies while we waited. The pickled green almond was a really nice and pleasant surprise. I could have just eaten that. Overall, phenomenal food! Now that I'm back in the US, I find myself wishing there were a Cafe Rouge like this one nearby. It's not especially fancy or trendy, it was just very good and simple. Although I liked everything I tried, my personal favorite was the champignons a l'ail (mushrooms on toast, basically). I'm not sure if all Cafe Rouge locations are as good as this one, but I'll definitely be checking out others in the future.
