Our 6 year old is now 11 and she loves! My middle daughter still always wants to go in and say hi even though she decided karate was not for her. The Instructors understand that there is not one style to teach and take the time to learn about your child and how they learn. I have been enrolled in the adult classes for 5 years. Not only is it a great way to get some exercise and training. I starting thinking I'd take it for fun and have discovered that I love the styles and programs they provide. His lineages are detailed in the school with verifiable sources. Additionally he has a background in various other martial arts that he adds on the curriculum as needed. His method of teaching is on a semi-traditional way which makes the learning more personable and tailored to each. He will give you the real methods of these traditional Chinese Martial Arts with good applications. He has worked in security venues and applied his skills in real situations. They have been training for a long time but aren't so far away from starting themselves that they can relate and really teach you what you're doing wrong. The BJJ HIIT trainings at lunch and evenings are awesome workouts, they put you in scenarios (for example 50 seconds left, start in half guard, top guy is down on points and needs to pass or sub to win) and run through that for several rounds with different partners, 10 second breaks. I typically burn 500-600 calories in the 50 minute class.

Went to Mick Doyle's for a free first class based off the recommendation of a current member…read more On the advice of an employee, the hubs and I took both the beginner and intermediate boxing classes. The beginner class was more of a warmup that focused on footwork and technique and the intermediate class moved into hitting and bag work. While the trainers and workout was fantastic, about 45 minutes of the two hours was taken up by the trainer talking (no movement during this time) and one-on-one work with the first trainer. The one-on-one time was great, however, if you were not working with the trainer you were just standing around. It seems this time would be more beneficial if people were paired up to continue training while waiting for their turn with the trainer. If you are looking for a workout, you may want to just attend the beginner class. If you are looking to become more efficient and trained in boxing, both classes are probably needed. The intermediate class (at least during our visit) is just a continuation of the first class and cannot stand on its own. While the extended time was a let down, as newbies we definitely needed the break. If we were to continue on, this would probably be an issue if all classes have this amount of down time. As a beginner, I particularly enjoy the conditioning and drill days.
