Bus 71 was 1-2 minutes walk and that got me close to the historic areas. A separate 8 minutes or less walk to Porte de Namur metro connected to the various train stations. My room was upgraded to the fifth floor and included a balcony with a small table and chairs. It was decent in size but the bathroom was small. A capsule coffee maker and hot pot were included. Per the front desk all the water in the rooms were filtered. Breakfast was included and it was a standard mix of hot foods (scrambled eggs, potato, beans, bacon), cold cut meats, cut and whole fruit, fresh breads, cereals, make your own waffles and coffee machines. Staff were quite friendly. I appreciated all the help from the gentleman from Limerick who helped me plan my way to Bruge. He even made a flat white for me since I wanted it lactose free and the machines couldn't accommodate it. Gym was down at -1 level and had a pink colored punching bag (only second time I've used one at hotel), free weights with bench, mats and cardio equipment. It was roomy and quiet. Overall quiet and comfortable stay if you're wanting to stay outside the touristy areas.

Plenty of space for working or just sitting around having a coffee. 24-hour availability for coffee and snacks, even some fresh baked goods in the morning and afternoon. The room was very comfortable with a nice view. I was upgraded to a balcony room. If I'd had one of the rooms facing in toward the center of the complex, we might have lost a star. Excellent location on a quiet side street about 100 ft from a main Street. A few blocks walk to the Metro. Good TV easy to navigate. Tiny bathroom and shower. Plenty of electrical outlets for charging. In case I didn't mention it earlier, the staff was definitely the highlight of the hotel. Very professional, very friendly, everyone speaks crystal clear English.

The location of the hotel is ideal for seeing the historic parts of leuven. It is not well located for easily getting to restaurants or bars, but a short 10min walk and you'll be in the city center and there are plenty of options there to keep you busy all night. Each time I stay, I discover something new! The first few times I had a basic room that was brilliant but later I started getting upgrades to more unique rooms. One room was a suite with a double sided fireplace. The beds were always comfortable and I enjoyed the modern aesthetic. The hotel restaurant is amazing. I have enjoyed many dinners here dining on the regional specialty, Michelin Chicken, but my favorite part of every dinner was their accompanying salad with cheese croquettes! However, I must say that while I would take the opportunity to dine elsewhere for dinner, I would never miss a breakfast there. Breakfast at the Mercure is epic! A buffet style with standard European fare: breads, meat and cheeses, fresh fruit, yogurt, muesli, smoked salmon and lox. However, they have a woman that would cook eggs to order and she was amazing! She would do omelets or however you wanted your eggs with sausage or bacon. Also included was a gorgeous coffee bar where you could make a latte, cappuccino, espresso or whatever coffee concoction you desire. Located in a nice area- a small river in front- across the bridge is a supermarket and there are nice restaurants and chocolate shops around. A short walk to the city square and several historical sites. Prices were standard and fare. I never felt gouged and enjoyed the simple elegance of the entire experience. The neighborhood was central with plenty of shops, restaurants, parking, and groceries nearby.

Grand Place is basically across the street, and there's tons of restaurants to walk to. It's easy to get on the metro as well. 5-star location. They also had free (very large) lockers that I could use after I checked out. The room itself was nothing amazing, but the bed was fine and there was plenty of space. The major annoying part was the check-in process. When I got to the hotel, I could not get in the building. You have to go through this lengthy check-in process that seriously involves taking a picture of your Passport with your phone. I'm not gonna go do this out on the street! I tried pressing the call buzzer a good 10-15 times and it took a good 10 minutes to get anyone to show up. Finally someone helped me so everything worked out. Also, the whole thing is based on these pin codes to get on the elevator or into your room, they don't give you a room card or anything. I could have done without this.

The 94/93 (to Grand Place) tram stops are only a block away, and the Carrefour Express Vleurgat (a local grocery with a wide selection of ready-to-eat/drink options) is about the same distance. A short walk north on Avenue Louise to Chaussée de Vleurgat and around to Place Albert Leemans will provide you numerous options for restaurants (see review on Le Bugatti) and pubs. So, as far as location, I was quite satisfied. The hotel is quaint, and the staff was quite friendly and accommodating. I had e-mailed the staff prior to my arrival requesting that a clothing iron be available in the room during my stay (a trouser press wasn't going to cut it), and was pleased to find it waiting for me when I checked into my room. My room was situated on the 8th floor with an eastward view over Avenue Lousie, which was nice, especially being able to open the balcony doors to let in the breeze. The rooms are basic, but clean, well-maintained with a comfortable bed. For simplicity on our arrival day, we ate dinner at the restaurant in the lobby. Finding a table is never issue because it seemed like no one was ever down there. The food was good and satisfied what we were looking for. They offer a daily breakfast buffet for about 24€, but we never tried it out. I generally just walked to Carrefour for any breakfast items on the way to the tram. Overall, a pleasant experience with a very accommodating staff. Should work take me back to Brussels, I will likely opt to stay here again.
