Walking inside here is like being inside a luxe, French salon. Each customer gets to laze on chaise longue style beds (all of which are draped in burnished gold satin) and each "brow station" is separated by soft, white drapes. If I'm going to have pain inflicted upon me, then it's nice to be surrounded by luxury. I opted for the Brow Lift-Shaping treatment - I was sold when they told me it will give the appearance of an instant eyelift. First of all the Brow Artist (or Arch Angel as they are also called) looked at my face shape and features very carefully, before starting her waxing, tweezing and shaping. I had been waxing my own eyebrows for years, so they were both a bit uneven (oops) but she didn't make me feel bad, just showed me where I'd been going wrong and reshaped them both to match. Then she blended some colours together to give my brows some depth and to frame my eyes more. After years of hiding behind a long fringe, I've just had a pixie haircut so it's imperative I show my brows off to their best advantage. It did cost me $70, but it was definitely worth it to fix my home-waxing mistakes, and now my (very even) brows can proudly take centre stage.

However Jacqui shaped my eyebrows the first time followed by a tint and each visit afterwords they have only gotten better and better. Winkbar is just a small little kiosk in Westfield Chermside, and they offer threading, eyelash/eyebrow tinting, eyelash extensions and perming, as well as massage. I hadn't made an appointment, but they were able to squeeze me in 20 minutes for an Eyebrow Threading ($28), so I did a bit of browsing at Kitten D'Amour (which is right near by) and then came back. They sit you down in a reclining chair and wipe rubbing alcohol and cleanser over the area. You're asked to close your eye and pull your eyelid tight and they work on your eyebrows. It's not very painful, a little more than tweezers, but not as bad as waxing. It only took a few minutes per eyebrow, and the woman did a great job shaping my eyebrows. When she was done, she gave me a short massage around my eyes and then we were done. All up it took less than 10 minutes. She said people usually come back between 2-4 weeks, and they have a rewards card - after 5 threading sessions, you get your 6th visit free! I'll definitely be back and maybe will get a massage next time too. Winkbar offers full body massage ($60), head/neck/shoulder ($50), indian head massage ($45), ayurvedic eye relief ($30) and hand massage ($20).

I have only had my eyebrows threaded, tinted, and lip threaded here. The threading cost cost $28 dollars though places in the Valley, City and Kelvin Grove do a identical job for around $12. The tinting cost $18 and made virtually no difference, perhaps half a shade darker. Actually it did kinda make a difference, it made me look like I had a mono-brow. The upper lip cost $16. The only differences are that it is located in a large shopping centre - so great for the air-con, no hills to walk (e.g. city), easy parking, a large variety of shops and they give a little longer massage. I suppose if it was a special occasion you might want to splurge, but if you have thick, quickly growing back brows like me then its too expensive to go often. 4 stars because of the price.

Then I decided, why not try it out. The prices are on par if not cheaper than your Pure Indulgence and Ella Bache, which is great. The rooms are just as good as your top beauty place, clean, uncluttered (i'm looking at you plastic flower on the bed that serves no purpose!). It smells nice. The beauticians don't use that fake light voice to talk to you, they are people! Tick tick tick. I had a facial there and an eyebrow wax another visit, and both times they have accomodated me without an appointment. Plus! The lotions and serums they use are all scientifically developed by a chinese guy in the US. They are designed to contain less crap and more real stuff (in laymen terms). They also have pretty good pricing on the lotions, you'll get a strong UV30 sunscreen for $30, for the potency it is, you don't need much and it lasts a longer time. Yelp! what a deal! Anyway, girls are pretty, guys go there too, they do make up and pierce ears and cosmetic tattooing to boot. I highly recommend trying this place out. Well worth it.
