Katarina's is located in "downtown Prescott" on King St., not far from the beach (in quotations because Prescott isn't all that big, having only 4-or 5,000 people, so "downtown" is smaller than I'm used to). When we walked in, we noticed a beautiful, big, 3-layer cake with a few people milling around it. Initially, I thought it was for the wedding happening at the town hall & library at that very moment, but the cake had a "K" on top instead of a married couple. It turns out that Katarina's is celebrating 2 years of business on June 4th. Way to go! The restaurant itself has a few tables with chairs out front, with an awning over them, to protect from the e weather. There was a chalkboard at the entrance, advertising their specials, indicating there was more inside, so we went in to take a look. Just to the right of the entrance, there's the cash and display counter, we'll protected against COVID with plexiglass, and the day's offerings on display: sandwiches, salads, and a variety of sweets. The clerk was friendly and patient as we placed our order (while distracted by that cake!!) to our left we're several inside tables with chairs, occupied by a couple of patrons, with plenty of space. The food and coffee were good, and I look forward to going back.

This is a charming little Cafe with great bakery and icecream options. Their croissants are nice and flaky. They also have a sugar glaze. We tried the plain and almond croissants. The moose ears were sugar glazed cookies, little flaky, little hard. The tiramisu is creamy and light, very moist, and not overly sweet. This is a cash or debit card only place. They do not take credit cards.

Always a delight for coffee or a light meal. Their sandwiches were a big hit at our granddaughter's first birthday party.

I can't say enough great things about this place. Riley's Bakery is a staple of Cornwall's downtown…read morecommunity and easily one of my favourite lunch stops. The only complaint I can think of is if you show up between 11:30am and 12:30pm, there is a good chance the line will be backed out the door. On this particular occasion I made it right around 11:30 am and I only had 4 people in front of me in line. The bakery is run by the same two people day in and day out, Rob and Anna. They can come off a bit standoffish at first but nothing could be further from the truth. Rob spoke to all 4 people ahead of me and even knew some of them by name and things going on in their lives. On this visit I had a cup of Chicken Gumbo and a Turkey Sandwich. The Gumbo was full of sausage and veggies and had a nice flavour to it. The sandwiches however really are the star of the show here as Chuck pointed out. The bread was so fresh it was still warm. And the turkey piled about 3 inches thick. I opted to add cheddar cheese for the bargain price of $0.50 bringing the price to $6 for the soup and sandwich. An unbelievable bargain! Not only would I recommend Riley's bakery but would consider it a necessary stop if you visit Cornwall. You won't be disappointed.

I'm a fan of Di Rienzo in Ottawa and so I knew I would be hard to satisfy. This place is tha bomb! The bread is so good, a little touch of sweet in it, the owner is funny and diligent. Great dessert as well! If they were open at night I would be there twice a week!

My husband and I were in Brockville and wanted to grab some lunch. Truth be told, be initially went…read moreto another cafe but were told they were not serving lunch that day. I was disappointed by that, but because of that we discovered Tait's and are we ever glad that we did! We both got the Tait's Daily Deal, which was $7.95 for a half sandwich, soup and dessert. What a deal indeed. For the sandwich you can have either egg salad or ham (it was not specified but it was cooked ham and not smoked ham), your choice of one of the daily soups (small size), which that day was cream of tomato bacon, or harvest turkey and ham, and your choice of dessert that day, which was coconut cream pie, chocolate pie, or lemon meringue pie. Both my husband and I got the ham sandwich (I got mine on gluten-free bread - I try to eat a gluten-reduced diet, but I can tolerate and do eat gluten. My husband got his on the cheese bread). He got the Cream of Tomato and Bacon soup, and I got the Harvest Turkey and Ham soup. He got the Coconut Cream pie and I got the Lemon Meringue pie. Everything was delicious! I love how you can get so many toppings in your sandwich and the toppings are free. I got lettuce, spinach, tomatoes, cucumbers, green peppers and cheddar cheese. There is also no extra charge for gluten-free bread. Since it's a half sandwich you get, they usually take one slice of bread and cut it in half, but the lady said since the gluten-free bread is so small and I was getting the pieces near the end of the loaf, she gave me two slices of bread, otherwise my sandwich would be miniscule, lol. I really appreciated that (as this little girl, actually has a big appetite, haha). Like I mentioned earlier, the ham was cooked ham, and while I much prefer smoked ham, for the price I can't complain too much. The gluten-free bread was delicious, very soft and not crumbly nor dry. My soup was hearty and not too salty, which is usually my complaint with soups. The pies were also delicious. The crust was not overly thick, which is a complaint I usually have with pies. I appreciated the gesture of placing a toothpick in my pie before wrapping it in plastic wrap to prevent the meringue from sticking to the plastic. As you can see from my photo, this action was only partially successful, lol, but that's ok, it still tasted great, and in these times, we are all just trying to do the best with what we have. The staff were really friendly and courteous. We visited during the Covid-19 Pandemic, so staff were wearing masks (mandatory order, masks in all public indoor spaces, so all customers were in masks as well). However, they were not wearing gloves, which I wasn't too crazy about, but they did wash their hands (I would have preferred washed hands PLUS donning of new gloves). Our meals were such a great deal and we were even able to snag one of the tables at the front of the bakery to enjoy our food outdoors (since it was during Stage 2 of restaurant re-openings during the Covid Pandemic so indoor dining was forbidden, but outdoor dining was permitted). The bakery/cafe is on the main drag in Brockville. Street parking only, but parking is free and plentiful in Brockville, even downtown Brockville (yeah, I love small towns for this reason, lol, so different from my hometown of Toronto, haha). Tait's will be our go-to place for lunch from now on when we're in Brockville :)

Maybe not 100% of their usual daily fare was on the menu, only lacking on this day because of COVID restrictions. The restaurant does indeed comply with Provincial Regulations, only allowing a certain number of people into the restaurant at a time, and everyone coming in and working in the place was wearing a mask. At the bakery, we asked about a few tempting items, but as we wanted something more substantial than sweet goods, we were guided to the back half of the space where we found a full functioning restaurant; we both knew we'd end up back at the bakery afterwards! Surely there would have been tables and chairs to sit at, if only we weren't in a lockdown. Hubby asked what the specials were, and we were told chicken noodle soup or cream of asparagus soup. He would have ordered the chicken soup, but we asked what was under "door number 3", and he was sold! It was chili, though not on special that day. I ordered a salami sandwich with lettuce, pickle, and mustard, on pumpernickle bread. Everything was tasty enough, as well as affordable. Apparently this place has the best coffee in town, but we had just ordered previously at an other coffee shop. Taking note of this for next time! Back at the bakery section, we purchased a delicious apple cake, day old apple fritters, half a dozen raspberry or date flavoured oatmeal turnovers, and a loaf of multigrain bread. Everything was delicious. I look forward to one day being able to go back to enjoy eating at this establishment.
