Poor customer service and a grumpy clerk, making food seem whatever. Seems to be only nice to natives of the town.

It's a tiny space, in the basement of a building, accessible via ramp or stairs at the side of the building. The shop is cutely decorated with funny sayings on signs next to the seating area. They offer a few varieties of lunch specials, like a whole or a half sandwich with beverage and 2 cookies, and three different types of bread. I ordered the half sandwich (egg salad on 12 grain bread), with a s'mores cookie and a turtle cookie, which were great. The coffee was so so. It's convenient but they've got competition in the vicinity.

He asked to see the dogs official ID card, which I informed him does not exist in this country. He said he would get in trouble with the health agency. I let him know that as a "medical dog" she has accompanied me to restaurants, hospitals, grocery store and so long as she wears her vest and acts accordingly it's not supposed to be an issue. The only thing that would have satisfied him was a copy of my medical record, which I could have produced, but with his approach in general, condescending tone and general unfriendliness - Since he exercised his believed right to deny us access, I decided that instead of producing a copy of my medical record, I would exercise my right to spend my $ elsewhere. In doing so I discovered a place called Tait's Bakery. Not only did they serve us, let us stay in and awesome service, they were not surprised to hear of my encounter at this location. So encourage you to go elsewhere for service!

My husband and I were in Brockville and wanted to grab some lunch. Truth be told, be initially went…read moreto another cafe but were told they were not serving lunch that day. I was disappointed by that, but because of that we discovered Tait's and are we ever glad that we did! We both got the Tait's Daily Deal, which was $7.95 for a half sandwich, soup and dessert. What a deal indeed. For the sandwich you can have either egg salad or ham (it was not specified but it was cooked ham and not smoked ham), your choice of one of the daily soups (small size), which that day was cream of tomato bacon, or harvest turkey and ham, and your choice of dessert that day, which was coconut cream pie, chocolate pie, or lemon meringue pie. Both my husband and I got the ham sandwich (I got mine on gluten-free bread - I try to eat a gluten-reduced diet, but I can tolerate and do eat gluten. My husband got his on the cheese bread). He got the Cream of Tomato and Bacon soup, and I got the Harvest Turkey and Ham soup. He got the Coconut Cream pie and I got the Lemon Meringue pie. Everything was delicious! I love how you can get so many toppings in your sandwich and the toppings are free. I got lettuce, spinach, tomatoes, cucumbers, green peppers and cheddar cheese. There is also no extra charge for gluten-free bread. Since it's a half sandwich you get, they usually take one slice of bread and cut it in half, but the lady said since the gluten-free bread is so small and I was getting the pieces near the end of the loaf, she gave me two slices of bread, otherwise my sandwich would be miniscule, lol. I really appreciated that (as this little girl, actually has a big appetite, haha). Like I mentioned earlier, the ham was cooked ham, and while I much prefer smoked ham, for the price I can't complain too much. The gluten-free bread was delicious, very soft and not crumbly nor dry. My soup was hearty and not too salty, which is usually my complaint with soups. The pies were also delicious. The crust was not overly thick, which is a complaint I usually have with pies. I appreciated the gesture of placing a toothpick in my pie before wrapping it in plastic wrap to prevent the meringue from sticking to the plastic. As you can see from my photo, this action was only partially successful, lol, but that's ok, it still tasted great, and in these times, we are all just trying to do the best with what we have. The staff were really friendly and courteous. We visited during the Covid-19 Pandemic, so staff were wearing masks (mandatory order, masks in all public indoor spaces, so all customers were in masks as well). However, they were not wearing gloves, which I wasn't too crazy about, but they did wash their hands (I would have preferred washed hands PLUS donning of new gloves). Our meals were such a great deal and we were even able to snag one of the tables at the front of the bakery to enjoy our food outdoors (since it was during Stage 2 of restaurant re-openings during the Covid Pandemic so indoor dining was forbidden, but outdoor dining was permitted). The bakery/cafe is on the main drag in Brockville. Street parking only, but parking is free and plentiful in Brockville, even downtown Brockville (yeah, I love small towns for this reason, lol, so different from my hometown of Toronto, haha). Tait's will be our go-to place for lunch from now on when we're in Brockville :)

Initially, we came in for the…read morebakery, but then we discovered the kitchen in the back half of the store was offering lunch. Maybe not 100% of their usual daily fare was on the menu, only lacking on this day because of COVID restrictions. The restaurant does indeed comply with Provincial Regulations, only allowing a certain number of people into the restaurant at a time, and everyone coming in and working in the place was wearing a mask. At the bakery, we asked about a few tempting items, but as we wanted something more substantial than sweet goods, we were guided to the back half of the space where we found a full functioning restaurant; we both knew we'd end up back at the bakery afterwards! Surely there would have been tables and chairs to sit at, if only we weren't in a lockdown. Hubby asked what the specials were, and we were told chicken noodle soup or cream of asparagus soup. He would have ordered the chicken soup, but we asked what was under "door number 3", and he was sold! It was chili, though not on special that day. I ordered a salami sandwich with lettuce, pickle, and mustard, on pumpernickle bread. Everything was tasty enough, as well as affordable. Apparently this place has the best coffee in town, but we had just ordered previously at an other coffee shop. Taking note of this for next time! Back at the bakery section, we purchased a delicious apple cake, day old apple fritters, half a dozen raspberry or date flavoured oatmeal turnovers, and a loaf of multigrain bread. Everything was delicious. I look forward to one day being able to go back to enjoy eating at this establishment.

Original review: So Almost Perfect is a chain with several locations. Prior to my visit to this Brockville location, I had only ever been to the Toronto location. I would say that the Brockville location is comparable to the Toronto location. Almost Perfect is a grocery store outlet. They sell items that are "almost perfect" like mis-formed chocolate bars, or broken cookies. They also sell items that are approaching their best-before date or discontinued products, like things in flavours that didn't sell well. Their prices are cheap, cheap, cheap. I got some kale chips that usually sell for $6.99 a bag at Loblaws for only $3.33 a bag (the "best-before date" was 3 months from the date of purchase, so not bad at all). They had lots of Udi's gluten-free breads going for $10 for 3 loaves. They had Annie's organic gummies for $2.99 a box. Inventory changes regularly, so it's a surprise with every visit :) This location is a stand alone store (not in a strip mall). There's an attached parking lot with free parking. Staff are super nice and helpful. They only take cash or debit. No credit cards. This place is awesome. If I lived in Brockville, I would go every week!

We needed some ice cream to cool us off. Who are we kidding, I'll eat ice cream anytime, but it was a great excuse for ice cream. So Cowan's Dairy is a convenience store plus an ice cream shop. We did not go into the convenience store, we just ordered ice cream from the ice cream window. They have both hard ice cream from Nestle and soft serve ice cream. I initially wanted a scoop of Cherry Cola and half a scoop of Apple Pie (you can get 1 scoop, 1 1/2 scoops or 2 scoops), but they ran out of Apple Pie, so I just got a scoop of the Cherry Cola. My husband, the strange man who he is, got a scoop of Heavenly Hash and a scoop of Mint Chocolate Chip in a waffle cone. Now this order in in itself does not make him strange, but in my opinion, if I'm going to an ice cream shop that serves Nestle ice cream, I'm gonna get me a flavour that I can't easily get at the grocery store. We have Heavenly Hash and Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream in our own freezers at home all the time!! I guess he likes what he likes! And as his wife of many years, I should appreciate that and not call him strange, right? Well, I don't necessarily think strange is a pejorative word. My husband knows he's strange, and he owns and rocks it, lol, but I am digressing from this review. I thoroughly enjoyed my Cherry Cola ice cream. The flavour was subtle and it didn't have that effervescent quality that I was hoping for, but it was still very good. And very different from flavours that I can easily obtain at the grocery store. My husband enjoyed his ice cream too, lol. The one thing I did not like was that no prices were listed. So I actually don't know how much each item cost. We paid $9.16 taxes included for 1 single scoop in a regular cone and 1 double scoop in a waffle cone. The serving size was large. My cone was really big. I really liked that in addition to traditional flavours they had unusual/more exotic flavours. Service was friendly and efficient. Lots of free parking in their private parking lot. There are picnic tables nearby where you can sit and eat. They are right next door to George's Fish and Chips.
