Cameron, our party host, was exceptional. He ensured every child was attended to, drinks and popcorn never ran low, and the energy stayed high from start to finish. His attentiveness was impressive and did not go unnoticed. Credit also belongs to Thannuel, the manager, whose leadership was evident throughout. It was clear that nothing was left to chance. Every detail was accounted for, and the entire operation ran seamlessly under his oversight. This is a well-run establishment with a team that takes pride in their work. The check in process is horrible!!!! Waiting for an hour because they let people hold up the line to complete their waiver is insane!!!! Management needs to retrain their staff. This is NOT a good customer service experience. People complete your waiver online before or step to the side and complete your waiver. I will never wait an HOUR outside again!!!!!! Don't come here. The other locations are not this incompetent!! Do better! read more

The customer service is always excellent. Everything is always so clean and the environment is welcoming. The concession stand has a great variety of snacks and food. The prices are very fair. Kate's Skates is a fun place. This old-school skating rink brought back major nostalgia of my childhood. They have the classic wooden rink with arcade and prize station. The rink itself is pretty large, but be warned there isn't much walls around it. So if you were relying on holding onto the wall during skating, you're sadly out of luck. I didn't venture over the the concessions area, but it looks like they sell typical rink fare including popcorn, soda, and slushies. All of the prices seemed family friendly, but the food was definitely not gourmet. I bought a groupon, but the regular prices seem fairly reasonable. You pay a price for admission and then also a skate rental fee. You can get either in-line or quad skates here. They also sell kids "walker" supports for $5 an hour if they might need a little help. Just a word of warning, this location closes at 5pm on Sundays. Be sure to plan accordingly or go to one of their other locations. read more

It had been 25 years since I last skated when we went to Kate's Skate Hudson location for our grandson's birthday party in October. We all had such a blast that we have taken them back every week since! (I'm the dorky looking one wearing the elbow and knee pads...better safe than sorry.) I love the black rental skates -- they seem quite new. In-line skates are available, too. Their wooden floor is terrific for skating and the music is the perfect volume. One thing that really impresses me is that you can rent little "skate helper" thingies (I don't know what their official name is) for novice skaters to help them get the hang of skating without falling so much. There is also a tiny area in one corner for kids to practice. Over the past weeks, we have had the pleasure of watching our grands get better and better each visit. A plus is that they are enjoying exercising and it's a welcome break from video games. The play area includes a playscape and arcade games. THRILL!! our proud three-year-old actually won a rubber ducky in a claw machine that only cost 50 cents! That was so exciting for us all. The staff is cheerful, helpful and friendly, admission is competitive and we have thoroughly enjoyed our weeks skating. We appreciate, too, that their Veteran's Day skate was free for veterans. Thanks for that! Be aware that there is a "kids skate free" program which is easy to access but you need to sign up for it before you arrive. Thanks to Kate's for keeping it real! I hadn't skated in 20 years but a bunch of friends were going so I tagged along. Most of my time was spent practicing not killing myself. Just staying upright in the never ending parade circling the rink offers plenty of exercise. There's always a little danger involved. It was crowded in the afternoon and kids seem to splat on the floor every other second right in front of you. But they pop back up like it was nothing and keep skating. I think everyone should tie on some skates, have a corn dog and a snow cone every few weeks and remember what it's like to be away from computers and TV and enjoy the simplicity of movement and being alive. read more

We always have fun here. Have never had a bad time at all and we usually spend quite a few hours here when we come. Especially on hot summer afternoons. We get the refill cup for the day which more than pays for itself. I like the layout of this one over the other one in town but the other one is good too. read more

1. We first entered. The girl at the front started to ring us up. I found out it's cheaper online so I told her I would go ahead and purchase them there instead. She said okay and I stepped back. After purchasing, she insisted that I couldn't redeem them that day and had to wait another week to redeem them? I said well why didn't you mention that before? No answer. I said that doesn't make sense. She looked at my phone, said she was gonna keep it right there and she'd be right back. I had to complete my registration on the site to even redeem them. I kept telling her this. She rolls her eyes and goes and gets her manager who then explains to her that she would just have to do a redemption smh 2. We then go to the skate rental. The boy there gives me the wrong size even when I told him it was the wrong size. He then tried to argue with me and say oh that's what was in the shoe. I said no it's not. I looked in the shoe and it clearly says 5Y. He gave us a 3Y. 3. I go to get 4 skate assist from the skate rental. I'm told I have to go to the front to go get tickets from them. Paid $20 for them. Go back to the skate rental and was only given 3 when paid for 4. When told the same person we had given him 4 tickets, he then just pushes the 4th skate assist out. No apology or acknowledgment. 4. As we are walking past the play center, the person supposed to be managing (Nick) that area decides to snatch one of the skate assist from the child using it and then gives it to another woman sitting down. When I approached him about this, he stated oh you're supposed to have a wristband when you get one. We take it back from him, give it to the child that we paid for to have it, advise him that's not what the skate rental representative did. He then stammers to get his manager. Okay, fine. She then comes over, says oh well they must've been so excited that they left without their wristbands. I advised her ma'am, a 29 year old that isn't skating wouldn't be excited and leave without what's required. Does she reprimand Nick? Of course not. Does he apologize? Definitely not. Oh and let's not forget, WE SAW NOT ONE OTHER CHILD USING THESE ASSIST WEARING A WHITE WRISTBAND INCLUDING THE KIDS HE DECIDED TO GIVE OURS TO! Honest review. I was reading about this place & look forward to skating there with my kids. The only thing I liked about it was less crowded, place & bathroom was clean, like the music and clear speaker sound system. It was more expensive than Frye's skate. $8+3 skate rental. But parents are free if they not skating. It is old, the skates r old, the floors are old and scratched up, it's smaller rink. There were no plugs to hook up my iPhone either. Got a Groupon for a family evening out. Went to Hudson Location which is 1151 Skating Rink Drive. Everything was clean, the staff friendly and just overall fun! You can choose from rollerblades or skates, whatever you wanted and there was no additional cost as long as you paid the rental. Jungle Gym was fun for the children! Older but clean! Loved the "beginner's" corner where if someone did not feel completely comfortable yet and new to skating, although small, they didn't have to worry about the "real" rink. Anyhow, we went on unlimited free pizzas and hotdogs night included in admission price. From what I saw, typically a slice of pizza is $1.75/ slice and I personally would not pay that price for that pizza. Hot dogs were typical store bought bun and small dog, again, not something I would pay for. Considering this was our family's first time here, I definitely would not go in for the food. Because our free pizza and hot dogs were so unappealing, I of course decided not to ordering anything else off the menu! Pricey enough and small servings and nothing special. 5 wings for $5? No thanks. Otherwise, loved the unlimited drink refills cup for $4.00! Arcade was not huge but fun enough! Loved the little store where you could buy glows stuff or just stuff! Just don't go for food unless you like poor quality and taste. But, excellent place for fun for the entire family! There are a wide variety of different people with different skating levels so who cares if you are no pro or just a learner, your butt might be sore but all in good fun! My daughter goes here quite often to skate with her friends usually I don't have a problem. Today my son also went with his sister with no intention of skating he was just there to sit until they were done and then go with his sister and her friends to the drive in afterwards. They made me pay for my son to go in and sit in the place. He did not skate or play on their play equipment or play any of their video games as he had his switch with him. I told them that I thought it was ridiculous that I had to pay for him to go in and just sit but they would not let him stay if I didn't pay for him to enter. This is Unacceptable to me. To pay for him to sit in a booth. Then once I had paid and gotten in the door with my kids the staff stood in a group and pointedly gossiped and continued to look in our direction. Extremely unprofessional. Not happy with the Gastonia Hudson location at all!!! read more

Had my sons birthday party here today and all I can say is this place is a dump. It was at least 90 degrees in there, the pizza was aweful, the kids wouldn't even eat it and the drinks was flat. I expected more from Kates and they let me and my family down. I will never go to this skating rink again. I have never has an issue with the Kates on Hudson. If you are planning a party don't go to the Kates on Franklin Blvd or you will be depriving your child of a good party. Book tour party at the one on Hudson Blvd. UPDATE: The owner Billy of Kates emailed me regarding this post not to remedy the situation but to inform me that this post offends him. So not only did we have a bad experience at this facility but they emailed me after to rub it in and that was offensive to me. Very unprofessional. read more

Got a Groupon that included admission and rentals for four plus 20 tokens for games and access to the play area for $22. The kids were excited to go. Inside is a shiny and colorful wonderland. Loud music and flashing lights. Kind of a cool retro vibe. The floor/rink is huge with tons of teeny boppers (some of whom were twerking by the entrance) zipping and spinning with great skill and confidence. Everyone (the staff) was friendly and helpful. The patrons were all pretty laid back too. Every once in a while I would see an area that would make me think that this place could use a good heavy duty cleaning. The indoor play area had quite a few dust bunnies higher up towards the ceiling. The stops on the shoe rentals were worn down and the ones my wife got were quite smelly. Put all that aside, it's a fun place to take your kids for an afternoon. read more

I started roller skateing in 1964...in the snow...outside...with clamp ons....lol...and at Kates in Charlotte by 1970...I haven't had on my speed skates since...mid 80s....went into the gear shop...after realizing my 1972 wheels were not gonna work !...the Manager was very helpful and knowledgeable. ..got me into an economical set of wheels ...and installed them !...my 1972 precision bearings still fit !..the new wheels are awesome at gripping the floor while I re-teach myself how to skate !...no more hocky slides for now !.....kids are kids...they are gonna be all over the place till they get used to rolling around !...at least...they are trying something new..and getting exercise !....I had a wonderful time !...and made a few new friends...the 2 young men behind the skate rental area were awesome ! ...they helped me with my trucks and were very friendly !...I don't think they had ever seen skates as old as mine !...lol....I will be back !....soon ! .....Thankyou for such a wonderful time ! .......ps....I almost forgot !..they had 4 or 5 kids birthday parties going on at the time I was there...and everything ran like clockwork !...kudos! read more

Had my sons birthday party there on March 17 2015. Everyone was super nice but something in there hit me hard. My allergies went nut on me. I couldn't eat any of the all you can eat pizza that came with the party package we purchased. I don't have a clue what it was but if you have bad allergies be careful. So I ended up leaving the party early so I could get some benadryl. It was a nice place just a little older. So I'm going to say it was dust. Next birthday party will be at the new Kate's. read more

Wooooooooow. We went to a birthday party here last night and I was AMAZED! I've never seen such a vibrant, beautiful, clean, modern skating rink in all my years! The staff was so helpful and kind! Their "skate mates" were pure genius! My 4 and 5 year olds were welcomed and not thought of as nuisances. AND they had a huge beautiful indoor playground when the kids needed a break! I wish I didn't live 2 hours away or we'd be regulars! What a gem this community has in Kate's Skate!!!!! read more

I know that they are known for giving people dogs, but they sell games at the price of everyone else if not lower, they just don't have a good return policy. I hope that people understand this, it is annoying returning games after all and who really wants to buy used games? It's just weird to see people complaining about that, I don't use the website much mostly because I buy a lot of my games in person but I did buy my Nintendo Switch from GameStop and I thought everything worked out nicely. There were no problems, the people were always nice, they always suggest things like games, accessories, and so on. It's just a nice environment for gamers. Do not shop Gamestop online but instore. Incorrect inventory labeling and did not wrap products securely to prevent damage during shipping. They sent an email for review and rating, saying my opinion matters. Then they rejected my review because it contained a shipping complaint, which is not an opinion but a fact. And it really wasn't a terrible review. I did not trash them or anything.
