I left LA a few years ago, but Kathmandu was always one of my favorite boutiques in Santa Monica. There is a beautiful, peaceful atmosphere there. Service couldn't be nicer, clothing is colorful and beautiful, at reasonable prices. The owner Reena and her sister Beena are so sweet and kind. Reena often has community events that bring wonderful people for spiritual gatherings, She is very generous and very ecologically minded. This is the most beautiful store I have ever visited in Santa Monica. I am from India so it was awesome to meet the owner who is Nepali. She is such a beautiful person inside and out. She offered me homemade chai and it tasted delicious. The store has so many things I wanted to buy each and every item. There are bangles, earrings, incense, sound bowls, clothes and more. I will definitely visit again. I bought a sound bowl and a crochet top and it came down to $157 only! 10/10 recommend! read more

Went in there after work to just check out some pieces because it's always fun exploring but the lady at the counter was extremely rude. She seemed irritated and as if she couldn't wait till I left. You would never expect that this tiny little shop, nestled along a very busy street in Santa Monica, would offer so much peace and serenity. I was lured to the Kathmandu Boutique Quarterly Gathering event by the promise of free, homemade, vegan Nepalese food (!!!!!), so I obviously went, and really liked the store! Before I even stepped foot in the store, my sense was that this was kind of a "hippie store," and it is. But that's fine with me! As soon as I walked in, I saw a brand of candles that I love that I buy at Whole Foods. And sometimes Whole Foods doesn't have it, so I have to go to multiple stores in order to get my favorite candles. Good to know they have them here! You'll find tons of incense, candles, jewelry, bags, hats, scarves, and yes, hippie clothes. Lots of hippie jewelry, too. I saw someone come in with a drum (drum circle time?), and I saw some people dancing in tents outside that looked like they were decorated with saris? When I was at the store, I realized that I needed a gift for my cousin's baby, so I got him a blue burnout t-shirt was a peace sign on it. Cute! And THEN, at checkout, I checked into Yelp and got a certain percentage off with a deal (yay!), and THEN the store threw in a free bracelet with my purchase! Win x 3! I definitely enjoyed trying the food. Like I said, everything was homemade, Nepalese, and vegan. The samosas were my favorite, but there were dumplings, and lots of things I've never heard of- veggie momo, bitter melon radishes achar, and potato and bell pepper achar. They had a donation jar by the food that gives back to something having to do with cerebral palsy, so I donated and it made me feel good. Would I come back to this store? Sure, if I want incense or candles. Will I come back to this store for another quarterly gathering? YES, I will definitely go back for that, because I like free food and drinks, giving back, and there's plenty of great gifts in there that I could pick up for friends while I'm there- they have a great selection of bracelets and candles, which I think make great gifts. Plus, I love reading the inspirational quotes hanging on the walls. read more

The owner is a terrible person. Spoke to my daughter very rudely and was dismissive and unkind. When I left the store to make a phone call the owner told my 12 year old daughter to leave the store telling her she didn't know what she was doing and shouldn't be there. I just went in there to by a stone and I was treated very rudely so I abruptly left. I was looking for hematite but wasn't sure how to say it. I walked in and looked for a few moments at the stuff on the lower level at the entrance. Then I walked up the steps to the where the register is. There was an older Asian woman working at the counter. I said hi and got a grunt in return. I ignored it but then asked her to help me find the stone I wanted. I said I'm not sure how to say it but said something like hermadite. She angrily marched over to the where I was and dug a stone out of tray and placed it in bowl that said hematite. She angrily marched back to her place behind the counter. She never asked me if I needed help or said anything even remotely kind. But I pushed on. I asked how much is it? She yelled at me, "it's called hematite"! I gently, but firmly said, "you're being very rude". Then she stomped her foot and yelled, "I'm not being rude!" I put the stone down and said, " I'm out of here. You don't match the vibe of this place." And I left. Additional info: My yoga teacher just told me she went here on Saturday and was treated in the same rude manner and that this woman is the owner's sister. read more

This place will bring out the hippie-bohemian person in you and it is my favorite place to shop on the westside. Like other reviewers have said, this place is such a gem! I absolutely love their clothing and the last time I went, I spent well over $700 easy on tops, pants, dresses, hoodies and jackets that are reasonably priced and beautifully handmade items very unique and available for us to enjoy. They have a terrific selection of Nepalese womens clothing (tops, pants, kurtas), accessories, jewelry, chimes, dream catchers, masks, mirrors, scrolls, tapestries, wall hangings, incense and oils, candles, statues, bells, pendulums, prayer wheels, prayer flags, singing bowls, tingshas, cards, engraved rocks, magnets, patches, shoes, sandals, scarves, shoulder bags, bracelets, earrings, finger cymbals, necklaces, prayer malas, pendants, rings, body oils, aroma oil burners, and so many other terrific treasures that will delight your senses. The customer service is top-notch and the staff really went out of their way to help me pick out the cutest outfits and were so patient with me in the fitting room. Ive been in here a few times and this place is AWESOME! I am in the burner scene and this shop has a lot of great boho/hippie style clothes. As well as crystals, sage, hemp backpacks, trinkets and more. I went in yesterday looking for some unisex harem pants and to my surprise, they were the ONLY place in the Los Angeles area with things that men can wear. Most shops only cater to females and they have much more then I expected. I highly suggest you guys to check this place out. My girlfriend also found a lot of things she bought/will be buying also. So its great for both men and women. The energy when you walk in is amazing. Very good vibes! We used to come here all the time and have the best experiences. You know when shopping is... Fun? When you get lost in the store and just kinda spend time doing whatcha gotta do, it's really great. However, we started having awful experiences when a new woman began working here. It began with her accusing my mother of stealing in front both me and some other customers. We've been coming here for years and there was no reason to think this. So, my mom showed her receipt for the 80 dollar necklace she had just purchased and wasn't apologized to. Since then she follows us around the store while trying to be subtle (my mom thinks it's a race thing) and it's just generally uncomfortable for us. read more

LOVE this place! Thought it was in Venice Beach but I guess I crossed the line into Santa Monica. There are lots of good stores all up and down Lincoln Blvd but this one is for sure worth stopping into. It is jam-packed with tons of clothing from Asia/India. In addition they have jewelry, knick-knack stuff, some decorative items and incense. You will never get tired of the selection. Prices are reasonable. You can get cool stuff for $10 or spend $60-$80 for nicer pieces. I love their dresses. The owner is very helpful too. read more

This is my favorite store on the west side of LA! When I first moved to LA a new friend sensed my bohemian vibe and told me that I must come to this store and meet the lovely sisters. So I did. Wow, I must have stayed for hours. There is so much to see. Hindu statues, incense, jewelry, clothing, scarves, art work. I could go on and on. I mostly decorated my lil beach side apartment with the novelties in this store and created a peaceful zen den that I love to come home to. Every Wednesday the sisters host a tea day. Their chai is like no other and this is coming from someone who traveled India and Nepal for 3 months. Grab a bean bag, take off your shoes and enjoy esoteric conversations with the eclectic group that wanders in and out every week for this community chill time. And...every quarter they host a quarterly party. It falls on the 15th of each quarter. March 15, June 15, Sept 15 and Dec 15. It's the most fabulous time! Full of artists, music, Nepalese food cooked by the sisters, a beautiful group of the most heart centered people of LA gather to celebrate for the occasion. You will meet the best people. Hmmmm I wonder if the fans of this place and I went to the same place to shop... or were serviced by the same lady... This place is definitely the epitome of the cute hole-in-the-wall. A cute hole in the wall with MANY, MANY exotic goods. I admit the $7.99 and $9.99 baskets placed right at the entrace of the store were very alluring and I couldn't help but rummage through them myself. HOWEVER, once I tried some of the lovely, Indian/Nepalese style tunics on, I noticed they were indeed beautiful - dip dyed in different, virbrant hues, elaborate embroidery, and oh-so-adorable little mirror pieces sewn in - but the actual fabric itself was... cheap. Several pieces I tried already had loose threads or small tears in them. How sad - it was like eating fine sushi made with Uncle Ben's instant rice. I did end up purchasing one of the tops because it was just the perfect shade of violet, fading to lavender that I KNOW my friend would love, and I figured even if she didn't, it was only $10 anyway. Maybe it was because I only made a small purchase, but I didn't get any free incense like the other Yelp!ers claimed here - in fact, I was rather rushed through my transaction as the lady behind the counter said, rather impatiently "Is that all you want?" while I was looking at the earrings next to the checkout. I admit there's a lot of this store I didn't have time to see (i.e. the earrings, some of the house decorations) and will hopefully have more time to see next time. And there will be a next time - I really want to believe my fellow Yelp!ers didn't steer me wrong, so I'll come back and update my review when I have more time to shop. read more

Drove 45 minutes from Redondo Beach during the late afternoon to check this Tibetan store out... And I wasn't disappointed at all, rather quite delighted! Parking lot is in the back of the store, had to ask about it otherwise it's paid parking in the front. Lots of amazing handmade clothes, accessories for men and women inside. Every inch and corner had some beautiful and unique jewelry, decorative items, etc. The owner is such a doll. There is even a meditation/shrine towards the back, so nice and relaxing inside. I myself am Nepali (though I grew up in the U.S.) and I can happily say that this is a wonderful store. There was a kind lady running the store today and she is from Pokhara, Nepal which I hope to visit one day. I was born in a different part of Nepal, but Nepal all the same. From this shop, I purchased a scarf with sanskrit writing, a green sarong, a side bag, and an anklet jewelry piece. Met Reena at the Abbot Kinney street fair a few years ago where she invited me to see her new store on Lincoln Blvd. I did indeed visit and haven't left since. Sweet store!!! great vibe, people, music, clothes, and loads of other treasures from every corner of this planet..
