I think I engaged in a dozen or so rounds of voice mail before I finally got someone and scheduled an appointment. I went in person to fill out the paperwork, which was quite a bit. Their machine was down so I couldn't give them payment for the upcoming visit. They called me to collect payment, and I gave it to them. The day before they called saying they couldn't see me unless I paid, and I told them I already paid. No intra-office communication. I saw Dr. Burns on Telehealth. She was 10 minutes late and dismissive when I mentioned that. She had zero personality. All she did was keep her face into her file to ask me ALL THE QUESTIONS I HAD ALREADY FILLED OUT. Then she administered a yes or no questionnaire with dubious reliability in my view. When my answer was neither yes or no, she got frustrated with me and kept saying "just answer the question yes or no." Then instead of having a shred of interest in me as a person, rather than me as a form to fill out, she wanted to book a month's worth of appointments. I said, "we haven't even built rapport yet, how can I book an appointment?" Then she told me this was part of the intake process, and I mentioned that most of the information she asked was on the papers I spent a long time in her office filling out, and I was being billed for that!!! Needless to say I did not want to see her again to be sure. No warmth, no interest in me as a person, she treated me as a task to complete. No thank you. And even worse, her video was poor quality and she was not in focus. I have a top of the line computer so it was for sure not me. Sorry but there's no way I can recommend her.

At the end of my session the NP and i make my follow up appointments. The day I show up for my appointment that we scheduled, the front desk tells me I do not have an appointment for that day . I understand these things happen, but this happens every month. I have severe depression and need to be seen every other week. This causes missed days without my medications since the Dr WILL not refill my medications if we do not have an appointment.

They told me two names on two different occasions and when I arrived for my appointment, it was with a third totally different person. That was the first red flag. The next one was when I was led to a room with a computer where I would be video chatting with someone. I made an in-person appointment to come to the office and video chat...? The person I was connected with was at home, the lighting was dark, and I could only see half of her face. There was someone on the phone outside of the door almost the entire time of our call. The person I was video chatting with was asking me a lot of personal questions and asking me to yell the answer at the computer because she couldn't hear me, and this woman outside the door could undoubtedly hear me! In addition to this, it sounded like there was someone else in the room of the person I was video chatting with. I was mortified and shaking the whole time, but too scared to say anything or walk out because I really needed the help. She asked me a lot of questions about my mental health history and she seemed to be making a lot of assumptions rather than listening to my actual answers. She told me she would actually be DIAGNOSING ME that day which shocked and freaked me out! This woman barely knew anything about me so far and was telling me she was going to be diagnosing me! My anxiety was SKY HIGH. I started crying at one point when I started talking about how my mental struggles are currently affecting my life, and she said, "Aww, you poor thing. Don't worry, we'll get you something." That was a little off-putting because I felt like all they cared about was giving me medication to cover up my feelings. When I left, I was confused about what the next steps were. She told me she was going to submit a referral to the psychiatrist I guess? I'm not sure if they're supposed to call me or if I'm supposed to call them, but I haven't been contacted since that first appointment and I'm not going to contact them either. I left there extremely anxious and lightweight traumatized.

SMART Recovery is an addiction recovery support group that has meetings all over the world…read more I've been using SMART for over 17 years, after trying other meetings, and I wish I'd found SMART sooner. The meetings are run by SMART-trained volunteers, and the quality of the meetings is rather consistent, with very few exceptions, as the format is the same in each meeting. Meetings are available in many areas, and are free. They "pass the hat" like other similar groups, and if you want reading materials like handbooks, those have a cost, but it's not a therapy service... it's a free support group that can be an alternative to 12-step groups. The SMART "tools" discussed are sensible and helpful not only for addiction recovery but also beyond dealing with a habit you want to drop. It's really a set of life tools, and not simply for dealing with 'recovery' from an addiction. There's no 'spirituality' change that's forcefully promoted at SMART, so it doesn't interfere with personal beliefs in that respect. I've had great success using SMART, where I didn't with other support groups.

This is a completely non-reputable recovery resource because chatrooms are regulated by random…read morepeople who want to regulate them and apply to do so -- they have no qualifications for giving advice/ recovery information to people. Additionally, they tend to favor the thoughts of long standing members rather than those who are new to their group meetings -- this means that if you were to say something that rubbed a longer-standing member in any negative way, they will kick you out for a month or longer until you apologize. Meanwhile, you are still welcome to make purchases through their site. They bend the terms that you agree to so that they can make anything that anyone says inflammatory. All in all, if you are trying to recover from an addiction, this is a terrible resource. The materials sold on this website are inappropriate for the average person to use without the guidance of a mental health/addiction expert., especially considering the protocol of those who manage the chat rooms/ message boards. If you need non- AA help, try Life Ring, Women for Sobriety, or see a psychologist with an addiction specialty.
