I called ahead of time to see if I could get fitted for a suit. She said yes come on in. I went in she measured my chest and then said that was all she could do for me. There is more to a suit than just the chest so I said let ne get a list of all the measurements I'll need real quick to ensure I get what I need for this wedding. She said she can't measure my body and to leave. Very confused never been here before, never coming back with manners like this. read more

I wanted to give another review about how amazing Kathy's Alterations is. I recently took in a sport coat for my husband to have the sleeves shortened. My husband had worn the sport coat several times already and the fabric was starting to pill in several areas. Kathy's Alterations not only shortened the sleeves (and moved the decorative sleeve buttons up), she also removed all of the pilling on the fabric. Best tailoring in Lawrence. I went to Anita's once where they were very unpleasant and had a two week waiting period. Decided to shop around and found this gem. Very quick service, very nice lady, did a great job on my military uniforms. I will say this, I don't think she gets many military guys in the shop. She didn't know which way was up on the chevrons. I just showed her where everything went and gave her the measurements she needed to get the job done and all was good. very happy with the service. read more

I asked Kathy to tailor down a very expensive Fallout 3 hoodie that was made for men. She did it in a day and charged only $12. She seems very hardworking and I could tell she has a quick eye and great perception for details. : ) I would highly recommend going to Kathy above anyone else in Lawrence. Over $70 to hem a gown and shorten spaghetti straps. No thank you,never again. When I pointed out that shortening the straps would interfere with the Assyrian,ethical neckline and it would need to be corrected, she ignored me and didn't bother to adjust it. The woman was both rude and abrupt both at drop off and pick up. She lost out on a lot of business here because ALL of my clothes need to be altered for some reason or another. read more

Almost everything I buy has to be altered so I was desperate to find a good tailor when I moved to Lawrence from New Orleans in 2004. After a few disappointments, I found Kathy's Alterations. I have referred to Kathy as "my tailor" ever since. She is patient, kind, efficient and does great work. I have never had to wait more than a week for anything I've brought her. My experience happened back in December but I haven't considered leaving a yelp review until now. I had this business alter my wedding dress last winter. When I picked up my dress and tried it on, I noticed one or two colored strings in the skirt. At home, I always kept my dress stored in the dress bag from when I bought my wedding dress. Later, I took my dress to try on with some wraps at a bridal store and the store attendant noticed that the layers in my skirts (many of which were tulle) were filled with little red, green, and black colored strings and fuzz balls. That shop said they would take them out for me and then when I put it on the day of my wedding (this is an issue with them also) it was even worse than I'd remembered and three of my bridesmaids, my mother and mother in law, and even my hairdresser were picking and lint-rolling the fibers out of my skirts. Thankfully, they were able to do a good enough job that what was left was not as noticeable. My wedding was a perfect day regardless, but I am still very frustrated that my white wedding dress seemed to have been laid on the floor. It's not her fault entirely because the dress shop said they would take them out (which didn't seem to happen), but it is upsetting that it was an issue in the first place. I'm very hesitant to recommend Kathy's Alterations to any of my friends getting married. Otherwise, she was nice to work with and very reasonably priced. read more

Kathy's alterations absolutely BUTCHERED my new expensive jeans. She literally took the hem, cut it off, & sewed a new, unmatching color of thread on the jeans by just flipping it under. They look like I could have done it! With jeans, I like them to do the "tricky" alteration to ensure the jeans look like when you purchased them. This was NOT done there. These look like a third grader did it...warning!!! Don't take your jeans there!!! read more
