Unfortunately, i cannot recommend Kathy's Estate Sales. Honestly I regret hiring this company all together. The estate items were from a multi million dollar property with very expensive furniture. The clientele we needed to target was discussed prior to the sale. We discussed targeting people who could afford to purchase high end furniture (ie. people who owned summer lake homes or who were building a new home). Most of the items came from Restoration Hardware, Arhaus or other high end stores and we needed people that were in the market for such items. Kathy assured me that she had the clients that were in that market and not garage sale and thrift store people who wouldn't be interested in these high end items. Unfortunately most of Kathy's clients were not in that demographic and never even heard of the stores mentioned above. The majority of the people who showed up were senior citizens expecting a garage sale or thrift store items that could be purchases for a few dollars. So very few high end items were sold, even at 60% off of the purchase price. Kathy actually bought most of the cheaper items herself that she priced down. Kathy''s employee actually damaged a $4000 leather chair and two night stands. There was no remorse or not even an apology. When I asked if she had insurance to cover the damage she said she did not. The entire experience was just totally unprofessional. They were very rude and not at all respectful of my expensive furniture. Sales receipts were just scribbled down on a pice of paper. Which I asked for a copy of the last day of the sale, but didn't receive until two weeks later when it came in the mail with a money order attached. Just a totally sketchy operation. I had the damaged chair repaired and asked to be reimbursed but was basically told it was my problem to claim it on my homeowners insurance. I recommend getting a certificate of insurance from whomever you hire. Besides from general liability for any damage they caused Kathy's employees should be covered by workers comp insurance through her company. God forbid one of them gets hurt while moving your furniture, you would be responsible. read more

We just went to one of her sales. Her staff was friendly, but Kathy sure wasn't. On top of that, she didn't honor the prices on her list. We had baskets full of stuff that we left behind after a jacket that was listed on the price list for $15 was $25. We showed her the price list and she said "It's $25, do you want it or not?". First time and last time visiting today. The people weren't exactly beating the door down to get in like a typical rockford area sale. In the 1st 20 minutes I witnessed 3 different customers have a miserable time. They don't take change, so if you order is $2.50 you have to pay $3. A $5 card fee regardless of value was also a new one. Another couple had baskets full and it seemed like some prices increased regardless what the sign said. Her staff was sweet. Kathy was quite rude. When a kind lady said "Kathy I don't think you will have repeat customers" she said I have been doing this 30 years. They come back. Well I am fairly certain today in 16 minutes she had 3 customers she will never see again. If you are considering having this woman do your estate sales, I think you should use one of the other dozen reputable ones in the area. We paid her a few thousand dollars to run our estate sale. There were many items that were valuable. They were not even out at the sale. People we know went. Kathy was incredible start to finish. My mom passed away unexpectedly in January of 2021. I called several estate sales companies and they all blew me off, because they didn't want to do a sale in Del Webb, during the Corona Virus. Kathy showed up, did everything she promised to do and more! Kathy and her team, had a successful sale within 3 weeks from our initial conversation on the phone and sold everything in the house. She went our of her way to be accommodating on the pick up of purchased items, if people couldn't take them the day of the sale. She even found my mom's wedding ring, when when she was preparing for the sale and gave it to me. She is honest, hard working and she made my life a little easier. The owner did not follow through with many of her promises, the staff always acted shady and like they were up to something when we came by, they emptied our refrigerator (it wasn't even in the sale) and our pantry of food, they said a dumpster was included in the price then tried to get more money from us for a dumpster, they ended up not getting a dumpster and not even removing everything from the house as expected, paid for, and promised. We had to pay another company $500 to remove what Kathy's left. They also took away items they were supposed to leave for the family. I could go on, but this review is already too long. Saw an advertisement on estatesales.net for Kathy's Estate Sales- with an ad to text for availability and a 'buy it now' option for some chairs she posted pictures of. I texted an inquiry and was responded to with a 'what's your offer'? First off, I don't DO offers- why would I set my own price? You're the one selling the item. Second, the listing never stated this was a full blown auction of sorts. I got no reply to any further inquiries, until I told her how unprofessional it is to simply ignore an interested customer because I didn't name my own price. Looked the next day, and each chair is now marked as $800+. Good luck with that (and that couch aint worth what you're asking either, lol). Wasn't surprised by the reviews I see on here. Our experience with Kathy has been absolutely disappointing. My mother made the difficult decision to go into assisted living which is not an easy choice to make. With this decision came the need to let go of almost all her personal belongings. This was was even more challenging than losing her independence! In the beginning Kathy appeared trustworthy and competent. We soon discovered she's anything but. She is dishonest, unprofessional and should be investigated. One thing about Kathy's Estate Sales, they are consistent. They seem to always be rude and trying to scam. I called on a truck they had posted that they said was available for pre-sale. I offered to pay the full asking price over the phone with a credit card or drop off cash. After a day of endless phone calls and texts she tells me I will have to come to the sale the next morning to buy it. I show up at the sale and she tells me the owner can't find the title so its not for sale. I explain I'm willing to buy it without a title because I'm only using it for parts. "The owner won't sell it without a title" she tells me. Low and behold about an hour later I see it on the front line of a used car dealership. Kathy and her staff were FANTASTIC, they held an estate sale for me that I feel was a great success. They were very customer oriented, helpful and organized. We had to do this on a short 2 week notice and they were able to get the word out and there was a constant flow of customers purchasing items. Her services were great from setup, cleaning out the house afterword's, arraigning for dumpster, and scheduling a thorough cleaning of the house afterwards were greatly appreciated and conducted as agreed upon with minimal effort from myself. I was in a position of having to clear out a 4000 sq. ft. business/home with 60 years of accumulated "stuff" in a short period of time. I was referred to Estate Sales by Kathy and they really saved the day for me. She and her crew photographed, organized and priced a huge conglomeration of dance, gymnastic and household stuff, in just a few days. The actual sale days were very busy, but Kathy controlled everything and we sold most of the items. Kathy and Bill had just the right level of "take charge" attitude and clearly knew how to price things to sell. Also, the opening time was 4pm, but the staff was still unorganized with prices. During my checkout A little girl working with the company was trying to help out and an older staff member yelled at her telling her to "get out of the way". Did not work directly with Kathy, but she solicited my husband and I when we were putting on an estate sale for a retired family friend. She left us multiple voicemails and told us she was very interested in the building which was also for sale. Upon calling her back, it went to voicemail and turns out she is an estate sale liquidator, etc. She could have been simply interested in the building, but I think she was trying to take advantage of people she thinks don't know what they are doing. Everyone be WARNED to avoid Kathy's Estate Sales, I have attended a few and witnessed RUDENESS and UNFAIR Dealings of items marked unreasonably high, while having original price tags showing much lower values and even be told the item is worth thousands, while she is firm on $500, yet a moment of research on ebay, Amazon etc finds the identical item worth only $89.00.....still giving her a great offer, kathy refuses with great irritation because you did let her know the value isn't what she represents. I have gone to several of Kathy's Estate Sales and have always been glad I had taken the drive out. I have gone to several within a half hour of my home, but I have also driven out about an hour to attend a sale. Kathy is friendly and welcoming. Every sale I have gone to was set up extremely organized. Every time I say "I am not buying anything" yet I always find a couple of treasures I didn't know I needed. Or I just loved. Sometimes there are a lot of people there and the staff can get very busy, but of course that is what the home owner needs. So if it is busy just have some patience. They always have holding stations you can place your items while you search for that other treasure you didn't see during your first circle, or second or third trip through the usually extensive cache looking for that hidden pièce de résistance.
