Katia is the best ever! I initially went to see her because of terrible back issues. I figured I would give acupuncture a chance since nothing else was working (multiple rounds of meds, epidural injections...). I didn't have high expectations, but I was tired of being in pain and having endless doctor appointments that just resulted in everyone wanting to shove a prescription I didn't want into my pocket. After just my first appointment I started to feel a bit better. And after my second I felt much more open and relaxed. Since then, I keep going back regularly and have less and less pain - I was even able to wear heels again one evening! I often feel overwhelmed and nervous about trying out a new practitioner, but I heard from a friend that Katia was a gem so I decided to try her. First of all, her office is in a meditation center which feels really grounding and peaceful. Her office is also spacious and has a bright window and cozy feel. Katia took the time to go through a detailed intake of what I was coming in for and it was a lot of things! I never felt rushed and I felt a lot of compassion and care from her. She gave me a wonderful and simple breathing technique and grounding exercise, but I also didn't feel like she was telling me what to do. It was more like a kind invitation which I really appreciated. When I got on the table, I felt like I was in experienced hands. I've gone to several acupuncturist before and her skill, efficiency, and care were excellent. I especially loved that she also incorporated tuning forks. That added a level of relaxation and integration that felt really sweet. Oh! And she also gave me a medicated plaster for free at the end for my injured hamstring. I found it easy to open up to her and tell her all that I was dealing with and was pleased she could address emotional as well as physical issues with her treatment. She recommended a natural cleanse and possible liver cleanse follow up for issues that included anger, excess weight and general digestive and circulatory health. Katia was very communicative, however both of my sessions were not enjoyable. The surrounding environment was quite noisy and distracting, and we had to move exam rooms several times during one visit. Katia is very nice and welcoming, but I found the indepth discussions regarding my mood and emotional state to be too lengthy and somewhat out of place for the acupuncture session. She had trouble placing the needles, pushing several much too deep. All three items I purchased from Katia were expired, including the tiger balm and other such balms and salves. After living several years in China, I have experienced some wonderful practices with very knowledgable and healing practitioners, and found my myself somewhat uncomfortable with Katia. With sincere apologies and no offense meant to Katia or others, but the ancient Chinese practice of acupuncture is probably best served by Chinese practitioners, such as Green Point Acupuncture on top of Queen Anne. Perhaps your experience will be better than mine, as clearly the other reviewers do really enjoy Katia's service, but it was not the right fit for me. read more
