2/27/2025 checked out this place from a referral from a co-worker on "crack-seed". Decent little store with tons of good stuff. The lady (I'm guessing owner) was very knowledgeable and helped us figure out what types of crack seed we wanted and helped introduce us to other stuff like dried ginger and lemon peel. The "more" is what I often come in for - the treats! I learned a term recently that those jars and jars of preserved fruits are called Crack Seed. I've been making so many jokes since, but I digress. Yumm! This place is awe-someeeeeeeeeeeeeee. I love coming here. It's a typical chinese herb market but for me the only one's I've been to regularly. The people that work here are probably the most helpful every time. I've discovered Li hing mui ( many flavors here) which I love. It's a hawaii thing. I've also tried about 20 of their other herb candies, fruits etc. Candied ginger was good. There were some spicy mango strips. Hands down favorite: gooseberries! It's like pickle? Sour gooseberries. They are $40 a lb so kinda pricey. My first time, I bought almost a pound. Over bought. Now I just go in with cash: I point and they still give me samples. Which is much easier to be honest. One time I got li hing but mint flavor: can't do it. Now I just say I have $40: what can I get. And point at several different things. And they pack and weigh them all for me. The only trouble is parking outside! But once you're inside, it's always fun and delish. I mean who doesn't want to point and taste? read more

"Addicted" to their ginger chunks with licorice after my husband brought some home for me from a friend who shared it with him. My go to place for (Chinese style) dried candied ginger. They have several kinds too, there is regular and two lemony ginger. I like the plain the best. Ginger is good to eat if you experience motion sickness, undergoing Chemo therapy. It taste so good and you can tell it hasn't been sitting in the jar forever! They also carry dried plum It sweet and salty (wha mui) They also sell some Asian bottled/can goods too. New An Dong is a small typical Chinese herb market and alternative medicine shop convenient for anyone near the Chinatown-International District. It's location and close proximity to Pioneer Square make me a fan more than the limited selection or prices. My wife and I stop here almost any time we are in this part of Seattle because New An Dong has some her favorite snacks, spices, teas, and medicines from her homeland. I stick to the sweets, candies, and snacks. We don't ask or expect a lot in the way of service so no complaints at all with the terms at New An Dong. Since the Bellevue Chinese medicine store I go to was out of the product I was looking for, I decided to go to the I-D to find it. Usually I do my shopping at Pacific Herb & Grocery on South Weller when in the I-D, but stopped by to check New An Dong out to see if they carried that item. The store is on South King. It is one of those rectangular spaces so the shop seems small, but wide. Most of the store is devoted to Chinese grocery items. Over the counter and in the case you will find the selection of Chinese medicinal products. This may put off some potential customers though since I am sure they are like me and prefer to browse in finding what they are looking for. You may be concerned about the language barrier, but fortunately that is not a problem as English is conversed here. Frankly the way the store is laid out, it is easier to just ask them where a specific product is. The store did have what I was looking for and it was actually a couple bucks less than Pacific Herb in fact. If you are looking for Chinese medicinal products, New An Dong is worth checking out. read more

This place is grrrrrreat! I came here to get some mulberry leaves for tea. $1 an ounce. My ounce of five-flower tea? $1.50. Big 8oz canister of Oolong? $9 The woman who helped us was efficient, friendly, and smiling. I've never used mulberry leaves as a tea, since I usually just take the ground leaf supplement, but she assured me to just brew and adjust the amount as needed. When I brewed up the brown leaf, it reconstituted as deep green - neat! You can get dried fungi here, all manner of teas, dried fruit (coming back for that goji berry) and I even saw a cupping kit for sale on the wall. There are some snacks and candies, too. ::Puts on Hank Hill hat:: Now, the supplements I was taking cost about $24 for a month's supply. After trying the tea last week, I think I can stretch the two ounces I bought for at least two months. That's a savings of $23 a month, I tell you hwat. ::Takes off Hank Hill hat:: The other herbal shops in the city usually don't carry TCM herbs. Thank goodness for New An Dong. Oh, if you come here to buy herbs, it's a good idea to have the Chinese name on hand. They're happy to oblige and look it up but it will streamline the process if you have the translation. Also, the tea shop around the corner charges quite a bit for the good tea they carry, like marijuana prices, ok? $7-15 an ounce. Sometimes even more. Since I seem to be slowly morphing into an anti -modern- medicine American, I find myself in here often. I've been to China, but don't speak a lick of the language and it doesn't matter to me, or them. Whatever it is that ails me, they seem to have a remedy. I walk in and ask questions, so far I have not been let down here. Everything from Po Chi pills for stomach, Ganmaoling for overall well being and many others. They, the Chinese, are one of the oldest civilizations on the planet, except for maybe the Persians, so I do trust the "medicine" they've developed The fun for me is discovering something new every time. I used to frequent similar Chinese herb/snack places like this one back in the San Francisco Chinatown. I love the different types of preserved fruits and such. There aren't too many places where you can find preserved lemon peel (sweet and sour taste) or green crunchy plums? I'm always curious as to what some of those preserved fruits taste like and I'm glad they offer free tastes if you want to try something out. This my favorite Chinese herbal shop. It's fresh and the herbalists gave me a lot of tips to make herbal soups. If you have questions, you should ask them. It's not easy to translate Chinese herbs into English. Probably wouldn't make much sense!! Besides that, I also buy their dried foods & spices. It's family run business. And they can speak Chinese, Vietnamese and English. All the staff are extremely helpful. They are more than happy to advice you the proper herbs to balance your yin-yang. read more

I speak Chinese, so I have no problem understanding them. I find this place better than the other herb stores around Seattle. I usually come here to pick up the "5-flowers tea," when I feel inflammation coming in... it works my magic. I also come here for dried shitake mushrooms, and other dried foods. Their quality is superb, and also the herbal specialist is very helpful in understanding what I need for my symptoms. He gave me this thing that accelerated the cure of my thrombosed external hemmorhoid, while western medicine told me to "wait it out." Now that kicks butt! The next one down is Pacific herbs, they do speak english, but I find the herbal specialist to be a little loopy at times. read more

I have been looking for dried hibiscus flower for ages. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw it in their store. Their price is very comparable to the best price you can get online, but you can save a few dollars in shipping. They carry many different kinds of dried fruits. You can get your regular dried mango, papaya, but you can also choose from 20 different kinds of dried plums. They also sell dried seafood like squid and shrimp, as well as many Chinese herbs. Awesome place. My mother and I spent at least 2 hours here searching for things like cat's claw for my mother to take back to Wyoming and concoct some homeopathic remedies to all kinds of stuff. The lady here was super kind and helpful and spent a super long time with my mother, even looking through Chinese reference books when she didn't know what something was. The only English I saw in this place is on their business card. I'm sure there was a variety of items I would have liked in here, but I couldn't decipher the language. This place is the best. My acupuncturist first introduced me to it years ago, when it was Lucky An Dong at 12th & Jackson. I frankly don't expect any business in a place called "Chinatown" to cater to English speakers (call me crazy...) and the folks here have graciously bent over backwards to understand my well-intentioned butchering of their language so I could get the patent I was looking for. Also, their prices *cannot* be beat. I wouldn't trust myself to find trusted suppliers of TCM herbs online, and even if I could, the prices would be 2-3 times what I pay at An Dong. Their dried herbs are clean, fresh and high quality. We have visited here many times and shopped a lot from here. We have never been disappointed so far. The owner is an elder lady that is really caring and concerned about others need. We feel she treated us like a family. When my child was coughing she instructed us carefully how to care for our young child. I felt like my mom was with us at that moment and we left this store with a warm feeling. I don't know if the lady there is a herbal doctor, she was entertaining me for different herb base on my tongue color but the most amazing thing was when my daughter walked in with chronic lip sore, what she told my daughter was right on the dot as I actually know what is happening with a western medical doctor diagnosis. read more

I've had a bad skin rash along my thighs from ( I think?) drinking some black tea that a tea merchant in town recommended (Pu-erh). I figure since I was in the international district I could ask a herbalist for some help. I explained my skin condition to the lady at the counter and she told me to scrub when bathing and to avoid seafood's with a shell. She also recommend some pills to take (Double Snake Itch), but at the time I didn't have the finances to purchase them. She then proceeded to toss me the bottle and just mumbled something about "Pay me later..." I came back the next day to pay and she also recommended some pills to take for a sore throat as well as the flu. She went above and beyond to help, which I am truly thankful for. Whether the pills actually work or not, I can't really say (have to factor in what I was eating at the time, my flu symptoms and the amount of rest I had). Give it a try though. I appreciate the fact that the herbalist here speaks Cantonese, Mandarin, and English. This place makes a very cheap doctor's visit, because the herbalist will give you medical advise and provide you with tailored remedies for your health conditions. Free consultations! Last time my parents were sick, they both lose their voices for weeks, and their family physician couldn't do anything about it, so I went to this herbalist and his recipe was very effective, their voice recovered right the way. Right now, I have been using the medication my dermatologist prescribed for more than 6 months now, but it isn't working and in fact is getting worse. I was told by my dermatologist not to bath in hot water, etc. When I went to the herbalist, he told me pretty much the same advise my dermatologist told me for free except he added some temporary dietary restrictions (no beef, duck, and sea food). Anyhow, even though they have the herbs in pill forms, I was able to buy the herbs in herb forms. I feel l could trust the remedy more when it is in its unaltered states.. because who knows about the qualify control with the pill factories in China, right? Anyway, I hope I will stop itching after this, I have suffered long enough. BTW, they also sell dry goods and pickled snacks. And, they accept credit cards. read more
