What a find! Beautiful hole in wall in downtown Jackson. Walked in @ 1930 and they had posted that they would be closing @ 2000. Was promptly greeted and shown to a booth. Staff came by with the menu and I ordered a coke (FYI they do have a full bar). They brought the coke and I then ordered the breaded pork tenderloin with sweet potato fries. When my meal arrived I was impressed (see picture). That's no frozen mass produced pork tenderloin, that is a fresh cut, pounded and breaded one right there. Served with all the right fix'ns (pickles, thinly sliced white onion and sliced tomato). Tenderloin was bigger than the bun (a must for a good pork tenderloin). The fries were great too. Don't quote me, but I do believe that they were fresh sweet potato fries as well. I will be back! read more

This place did not look like much, however this place was amazing from start to finish. Great service, the sandwiches and sides were all outstanding, the desert was the star. Read on a racing forum about this place serving food out at the race track. surprised that my northern relatives had never heard of their downtown Jackson location. Since we were on the Okoboji area we headed north and thought we would give it a try. We had a breaded tenderloin ( God's gift to Iowans ) a Navajo Taco and a pulled pork BBQ sandwich. A friend and I are currently driving cross-country back to school at Yale. We needed a place with FREE Wi-Fi and good food, saw this on Yelp, and decided to stop in... Glad we did! The food was a delicious (I had the Hot Dog -- not nearly as basic as it sounds), portions were quite sizeable, and Donny, the owner, was a great host! MUST STOP IF TRAVELING ON I-90!! Was craving some bbq on our way from Ohio to South Dakota, and this place delivered! The owner (Donny) was awesome, gave us the origin story of the place, told us all about how he makes the food, and brought out some pork rinds for us to try. Super nice guy who can deliver on promises of good food. We got the ribs and pork tenderloin and more sides than we could ever finish (baked beans, cornbread, jalapeño poppers, pigs ears, salad, coleslaw, sweet potato fries, yummmm). I visit Jackson several times a year. Every time, I insist on going to Hog Heaven. The food is fabulous, hearty and well-priced. I've tried many things on the menu, but always go back to the pork burger and the Cuban sandwich. Last night I had a cup of sausage chowder. It was hearty, tasty and great during this brutal winter. The interior is cozy and updated. The staff is friendly. My only criticism -- and this may be out-of-date -- is that they don't know how to mix a complex cocktail. Had the pork lion the first time traveling through that brought us back... this time they were trying a new creation I called "burger experiment #7" they had a different name for it. Went and ate there for lunch with my Fiancee and where in the world do I start? I guess with the good first oh wait there is no good, fries had no seasoning on them at all seemed like the oil hasn't been changed in months not even salt pepper or ketchup could help them fries yuck! Then I ordered a Cuban and I'm sorry if your gonna make a certain sandwich please please know what the heck your doing or don't do it at all! Great place to join friends for a bite. Service was excellent and the food was perfectly done. I had the Navajo Taco, which was the perfect size to fill me up without feeling over stuffed. It include taco sauce with just the right amount of zip. My friend had a pulled pork sandwich with pickles and jalapeños added. The bun was piled high with meat and she said it was very good. Er. Ma. Gerd y'all! We came through Jackson on our way from Missouri to my sister's house and my mom Yelped to find us a restaurant to stop and eat supper before the last leg of the trip. This place and it's owner/chef/waiter was AMAZING!! I was having trouble deciding what I wanted and he helped me make a decision (and it was definitely the right one!). I had the Navajo taco and a few Angry Orchard Hard Ciders, and it was damn near perfection. My dad had the special of the day, which was the Jamaican Me Crazy burger and the hand cut fries, and was super happy with both. My mom had the fried pork tenderloin and the bacon coleslaw (which was SO damn good). He even stayed around and talked to us for quite awhile about where we were headed and how he knew folks from there. And when we mentioned that it was her birthday to try and get her to get a beer, (which she of course refused), he brought her a big to-go cup of a incredible looking layered chocolate cake with mousse, whipped cream, and I think chocolate shavings on there, too. Sanitation and atmosphere earn most of the 5 star rating, with population and menu selection being taken into consideration. Not a fan of the corn bread, and although some of the meat on the ribs were slightly tough, I was satisfied. The hot dogs are great, ( 2 dogs halved on a bun packed with slaw and bacon), my new favorite sandwich. I'll definitely eat there again and try out other choices on the menu. And, each of the 2 times I've been there they made the perfect Jack & Coke. read more
