Read on a racing forum about this place serving food out at the race track. surprised that my northern relatives had never heard of their downtown Jackson location. Since we were on the Okoboji area we headed north and thought we would give it a try. We had a breaded tenderloin ( God's gift to Iowans ) a Navajo Taco and a pulled pork BBQ sandwich. All were very good and this is a must return when we are back in the area!

    Great plate of ribs

I was doing some business in Jackson Minnesota and some of the locals recommended Kats hog heaven , I was greeted very nicely and took a place at the bar. The owner I believe Donnie was very informative of the type of ribs they were serving that evening. They were great. More than one person could normally eat. I would recommend them 100% for anyoneI wanted great barbecue

A friend and I are currently driving cross-country back to school at Yale. We needed a place with FREE Wi-Fi and good food, saw this on Yelp, and decided to stop in... Glad we did! The food was a delicious (I had the Hot Dog -- not nearly as basic as it sounds), portions were quite sizeable, and Donny, the owner, was a great host! Plus they have a full bar and a couple regional craft beers on tap. I highly recommend anyone driving by to stop in, less than 5 minutes off the interstate.

Navajo Taco made with fried bread, black beans, lettuce, and pork loin. Tasty!

Last Friday was a date night for me and Gayle, as we opted to try for kick ass meal out here at the Hi-Lo Club just outside Lakefield. The restaurant and bar was about a 30 minute drive from the family cabin on the East Shore of Spirit Lake (Orleans) and with a lot less traffic that any fine dining choice almost as far on West Lake Okoboji. Our only regret was that we opted not to go downstairs to the Speakeasy after dinner, where live music was in full swing. The only irritation (if that) was a fairly loud bride and friends dinner a couple tables over. But I quibble as Gayle and I thoroughly enjoyed our romantic evening together within our cozy booth. Here's what we ordered: - Bombay Sapphire Martini (Up/Olives) and then a Malbec (Gayle). - Mocktail (Cranberry Pom Spritz) and then a Sauvignon Blanc (Eric) - Filet Beef Tenderloin with Asparagus and Caesar Salad (Gayle) - Canadian Walleye with Caesar Salad and Wild Rice Pilaf. - Coffee (Eric) and a shared piece of Champagne Cake (See Picture). Our Caesar Salads and Gayle's steak were outstanding. My Walley was excellent, but I wanted more of what Gayle was enjoying. The cake was of course icing on our evening. Total tab? About $160 with tax and tip. Special kudos to our great (and very busy) waitress and the Prohibition-era atmosphere. We only visit the Iowa Great Lakes once in the Summer, so look for us to be back here next year.

Well, look no further. This no-frills steakhouse specializes in dry aged beef, is James Beard award winning, has great cocktails, and still serves you a relish tray while you wait for your meal. For those of you under the age of 35, a relish tray, often consisted of carrots, celery, pickles, and cubed cheddar cheese like this one. They also will bring you some bread and butter if you would like. In my opinion, you should definitely opt for the tenderloin, but I'm not sure there is a bad steak option on the menu. They also have seafood and even sandwich sandwiches including a burger so there's something for everyone! It's family friendly and although the decor will remind you of your grandma's house, no grandparent I have ever met could put out steaks like this. Visit the ice cream capital of the world and make sure to save room for a steak!

The menu was pretty simple, with nothing too crazy. The most exciting thing on the menu to me is the Cinnamon Roll French Toast - I will need to surprise my wife some of those someday! I ordered the more giant biscuits and gravy with two pancakes. It was too much to finish in one meal, so I grabbed a box. It was good, but it wasn't anything extraordinary. It tasted exactly how I would expect pancakes and biscuits & gravy to be! I'm going to have to try again in the future and do something different to figure out what the locals go crazy for, but for my first visit, it seemed like a typical spot that seemed to be reliable.

Despite the restaurant being nearly empty, the service felt curt and unwelcoming, beginning with a confusing interaction as we entered and continuing throughout the meal. The food quality was also below expectations, with overcooked eggs and poorly prepared sides. Most notably, there was little hospitality--no check-ins, no coffee refill without our request, and difficulty even getting the bill. After many years of positive experiences here, this visit stood out for all the wrong reasons and was disappointing enough to make longtime customers reconsider returning.
