Food: Do yourself a favor and order the filet mignon and wild rice -- and don't forget the side of 3 jumbo shrimp! My family has been coming here for years and we all order the same thing every time we come, and it's always phenomenal! The beef is SOOO tender, it literally melts in your mouth. And don't get me started on the wild rice. It's cooked to perfection and it's so buttery and flavorful. Atmosphere: Bergen Bar & Grill is a smaller restaurant that's first come first serve -- no reservations. You put your name and phone number on a notebook and they call you when your table is ready. Depending on the time you arrive, it can be a longer wait. However, they have a lovely patio where you can wait for your table OR you can hang out in your car. Gayle and I stopped by Bergen last Sunday for Lunch. I think we were hoping for a Sunday Dinner with a nice steak at this causal down home restaurant. What we discovered was that they have limited weekend Lunch hours (11:30 - 1:30) and a more conventional burgers and sandwiches menu. It also wasn't nearly as crowded as the evening sittings can be. I'll still rate Bergen at 5 because it is a great steak dinner choice. However, their more conventional Lunch might not be worth the journey out here for some folks. We did have a nice time out here. Service was neighborhood friendly and efficient, while Gayle's steak sandwich and my German Patty Melt were very tasty. We both chose Onion Rings as our side, which always taste great going down, but sometimes linger afterwards. Their bar choices continue to improve, while Bergen remains Cash or Check only. read more

Was an 11 on a scale of 1-10. It's a dive but the perfect dive. They are swamped. Don't expect much help before you're seated. Told me a 3 hour wait but come on. Was seated 45 minutes later. Fish was excellent. Shrimp was interesting and would do again. New York Strip wasn't the best noe the worst. Cooked perfect. Kept the pop and drinks flowing. The twice baked potato was the bomb!! We have come to this restaurant many times over the years. Originally I would give it five stars, but I think the food and service have declined a bit. I've ordered the fried fish the last few times after being disappointed in the steak. The fish is great - crispy and hot. The service is good, but we all felt very rushed this last time. There was a line waiting, and our server offered to go boxes before anyone was finished. The owners should maintain the property better - nothing has changed inside and the paint is peeling on the exterior. It's also very noisy inside so not the place for a quiet dinner. Get there early because us locals know what's up and if you're not there 30-60 minutes early you'll be waiting a long time, which isn't bad during the summer because you can hang out on the patio. The food is excellent. If you want steak this is the place for you. The price to size ratio is great. We chose this restaurant based on a local's recommendation and the reviews here on Yelp. We arrived at 415pm to be sure to be able to get a table when the restaurant opens at 5pm. We were the second car to arrive. People started to stand in a line in front of the door at 445pm. We ended up as the fourth party in the restaurant, which ensured we had a table, but we just missed the one table that sits five or six comfortably. So the five of us sat in an oversized booth that we wished was just a bit bigger. The restaurant seats about 45 people. The table ordered an appetizer of a large plate of onion rings. It was plenty for the table. The rings were cooked to a golden brown and had large enough slices of onion to actually taste the onion. The batter was a little bland, but the dipping sauce was very good. It appeared to be ranch-based. We would order the onion rings again. The table ordered two 14 oz filets with mushrooms cooked medium, one 14oz rib-eye with mushrooms cooked medium rare, one 20 oz rib-eye cooked medium rare, and one 14 oz filet with mushrooms cooked medium rare. Every steak was cooked correctly and tasted great. The filets were very tender and even the rib-eyes could be cut with a fork. The side salads were nothing to write home about; just iceberg lettuce with a tiny bit of other vegetables. The salad dressing was thick and tasted good. We ordered the potato wedges as the other side since they do not offer baked potatoes. They were fine, but by then we were all too committed to our steaks to eat much of that heavy side. No wine or liquor is available, but the pitchers of beer were a great price. One pitcher was $6 and filled five or six glasses, as opposed to one beer on tap that costs $3. read more

My favorites are the prime rib and filet mignon. Family prefers ribeye. Whatever your meat preference, this is the place for it. The fried cauliflower appetizer was delish, as were the fried cheese curds. We like the twice baked potato for a side. Bring your own bottle of wine or cocktails, since they only serve Beer. This is just a spot in the road, blink and you may miss it! The restaurant is small, it has a few booths and some tables running in the middle. My husband and I ordered steaks. He got a filet minion and I got the ribeye. The steaks were one of the most delicious ones that I have ever tasted. It was full of flavor, cooked to temperature, and very tender and juicy. I got potato wedges for a side and the were the thick cut ones that are so good!!! Also, they let you BYOA (Bring your own alcohol.) They just charge a little glass fee for it. This is an awesome place to get a steak. On my last visit, my wife and I shared the Sirloin for 2. The steak was huge, 32 ounces. We could have split it 4 ways. It was extremely tender and the flavor was incredible. I've had the steak cubes, rib eye and prime rib. All were the best ever. When you go, arrive at 4:30 so you can get a seat. Fantastic food at such a hole-in-the-wall place out in the middle of nowhere! Haven't had a better steak in a long time. They've also got really great onion rings and probably lots of other stuff I have yet to try :) The only downside is how long you will likely have to wait. Since it is such a small place, if you aren't there at 4:45, you'll likely have to wait until 6 or so to eat. If you go later, it's kinda a crapshoot - you may get a table right away, but chances are small. In the summer, it's not such a big deal, as you can get drinks out on the patio, and even eat outside. When it gets cold, though, remember - you're in Minnesota - it gets COLD! My husband and I try to go there a few times a year, and we always enjoy the food - definitely worth the wait! They do NOT take credit cards, though, so make SURE to have cash or check on you (and I think checks are only for the local area, so cash is the best bet) You can expect to pay for a good steak there - you could easily spend $25-30 or more per person on a meal, but there are also less-expensive options ($7-8 for a sandwich or something). read more

So disappointed! We have eaten at this restaurant a couple of times and would have rated it a 5; however this time the food and service was poor! Ordered a steak rare with steak and onions and arrived well done. Asked for a new steak and it arrived 20 minutes later without the mushrooms and onions and when everyone else at the table was done eating! We asked the waitress to remove the cost of the mushrooms and onions to be removed from the bill and she said ok but coped an attitude.
