Very welcoming and family friendly, the smell of food is intoxicating. Please come on an empty stomach because you will wish you had more room for more. This was a very pleasant experience with the staff welcoming in the local shopping area. Ms. Kat is the first person you meet when you walk in and she make sure your food was great! Thank you!

Grilled pork chops, Mac and cheese and green beans

Pleased as punch. This is how I described my visit to Kat's Kreations tonight. I don't give 5 stars out that often. But when I do, it's well deserved. First off, I was pleasantly greeted as my date and I walked in the door by Mr. Nichols, one of the owners. We immediately saw on the door that they were closing at 7:00, not 8:00, as Yelp stated. The time we entered was about 6:30 PM. Most people would have gave us the side eye for walking in there 30 minutes prior to closing, but not here. They were happy to wait on us. We both ordered the grilled pork chops and Mac and cheese. I ordered the green beans; my date added stewed potatoes and yams. We both had cornbread and split the red velvet cake. Y'all....this was some of the best home cooking I've eaten in...a long time. Everything was seasoned to perfection. No need for salt here. The macaroni and cheese was creamy, with the browned cheese on top. Just like somebody's grandma makes. The grilled pork chops were juicy and flavorful AND tender. Lastly, my green beans were seasoned with just the right umph to make me want to know what they seasoned them with so I can use it at my house. My date raved the entire time about his meal. I couldn't rave about mine because I was too busy eating. Lol. Before leaving, we talked with the genius behind the scene, Mrs. Kat, the owner. They have been in the food industry many years and also cater. They are super sweet people who I really want to see do big things with this restaurant. Yep...pleased as punch is how I sum up my experience. And full. I'll be back. I hope to see you there too.

I have been going here ever since they had their grand opening and been a regular ever since. The food is very affordable and you get served a good amount to boot. Not only that but the workers and owner are very genuine and very nice, they really make you feel like a family. The interior is a little small but you'll definitely want to take home and enjoy the meal they give you. To me this is the example of a really good hole in the wall restaurant with really good soul food.

Meatloaf with cabbage and fried okra

Its been a year since I last wrote a review from here that it was only fitting that I give an update on the restaurant. The restaurant and menu is still the same, but the only difference is that they added a breakfast menu which they're going to start serving up soon. My impression with the restaurant wasn't good because the moment I'd walk inside, I was hearing that sticky noise with every step. I order my usual which is meatloaf and fried okra and I wanted to try a different side item to change up my routine so I went with a side of cabbage. While waiting, I can see why it felt like something felt sticky because the floor looks like it hasn't been mop up in awhile. Normally, I wouldn't have to warm up my food since I get everything hot, but the meatloaf and cabbage was more of a lukewarm type and I stay less than two minutes from the restaurant. They got good food, I just hope there standard isn't dropping and that it was just an off day.

Sunday Satisfaction!! Ms Kat's place is the Sunday destination of everyone in the Centerpoint community, great staff and helpful to the heart, these folks provide wonderful service and fantastic food day in and day out. Best food in the land hands down.

Ox tails, rice, greens and cornbread muffin. Not a cornbread fan but this was pretty good.

So glad to discover that this spot is in the area. It is much needed. I went in after church to pick up some food because I was not feeling cooking but wanted a good Sunday dinner. From the moment I walked in, the guy at the counter made me feel welcome and wanted to help me with the menu. He wasn't overbearing; actually pretty funny. I decided (finally) on the ox tails with rice and greens. Good selection. The meat was falling off the bone and they gave me plenty. My only complaint would be that I prefer a thicker sauce/gravy with my ox tails but they have more of a juice. They were tasty though and hit the spot. The star of my meal was the peach cobbler thanks to the guy that was at the counter. He said I would enjoy it and he was so right! I will definitely be back. Gotta support a great restaurant so close to home.

The food wasn't edible... see my review

I try to support new businesses but Kat's Kreations is an epic fail. About 2 months ago I went in to order 2 plates to go and a peach cobbler. The plates had collard greens, oxtails, chicken and dressing, green beans, pinto beans and cornbread. The peach cobbler had a jam texture and I wasn't even interested in trying it. The guy at the register made it seem like it was a must have. The veggies had a weird chemical taste, the chicken and dressing was gummy, the pinto beans were hard with no flavor and the oxtails, which is a higher priced item, was nothing but bones and fat with very little meat. I separated the bones in the pic so you can see what's left, It wasn't even edible. We took a loss on the meal because I didn't bother to take it back and I won't be going back to Kat's either.

Great choice. I also got a side salad with the chipotle ranch dressing and that was very good too. Picture below. For dessert, I was planning on getting the key lime pie, because that is usually my move, but Hayden my server talked me into trying the blueberry cobbler cheesecake instead. I am glad he did. It's kind of hard to tell what all the food options are, so I had to ask what some stuff was. I managed to get a meat and 2 instead of a meat and 5! I also got collards and cornbread dressing & yes they had cranberry sauce. Everything was good tasting. The meatloaf was a little sweet to my taste so I probably wouldn't order it again. The veggies were not over seasoned or overcooked. I will definitely comeback here bc there is still just so much I wanna try. The staff is nice and took care of the crowd. A la cart is available as well. They have ice tea or lemonade drinks in a cup that they also serve you. Lemonade was good. There's a very small counter to pay after you order. Fry chicken is tasty with perfect crisp. Collard greens were seasoned well and perfect texture. Yams (my favorite) was perfect - flavorful, not too sweet and firm but not hard. Both of us thought the Black eyed peas looked really good but taste bland. I would have preferred it without the Okra. I didn't see that when I ordered. One in our group commented the meat loaf was good. The dressing was really good too - well seasoned and tasty. After paying there's a dining area for self seating. It serves the purpose to sit and eat but definitely could use sprucing up along with the restrooms. Please seriously consider! It would make the experience much more pleasant to enjoy their delicious food. I took off two stars for that reason and yes it's that unpleasant as the tables/chairs are also too clustered together. The chairs don't fit around the table properly. Overall good southern food at a reasonable price and recommended. Skip dining in if you don't have too. Just my two cents.

The interior was refreshingly classic but current, making good use of an elongated and narrow space. The partially open kitchen increases interest, but I was sitting with my back to it, which spared my lunch companion from competing for my attention. Our server Krynn was perfectly kind, prompt, and pleasing, genuinely welcoming to us and knowledgeable of the dishes. She was so very sweet and one of the best servers I have encountered in Alabama. The food was very thoughtfully prepared. We ordered Tuesday's lunch special, the fried green tomato BLT. We were impressed that the bacon is cured on site and cut the same day it is fried and served. The sandwich was so large that we easily split it. The tomatoes were good. I prefer lettuce in leaves, not shreds, but it didn't detract much from the experience and it didn't fall out everywhere. The sandwich came with chips which seemed homemade and were very good, not soggy. I added salt which was brought in a little wooden pinch bowl. For a side we split a plate of marinated summer peas and beans. This was baby lima beans and black eyed peas, with a very small amount of finely diced red onion and red bell pepper. There was a copious amount of cilantro that was not finely chopped and dominated certain mouthfuls. I would adjust this recipe by using a few more pinches of red onions and bell peppers, and finely chopping the cilantro and using less of it. It was very flavorful! I thought my SIL might still be hungry so we got a cheesecake slice at the end. It presented beautifully and was covered in a blueberry syrup. The texture was a bit ragged but it isn't any worse than one I'd make at home. I also felt the lemon flavor was a bit overly strong, and the crust appeared to be cornmeal based and wasn't my favorite, but that's just my preference. I feel that smokers or people with few taste buds would still be able to taste the food at Helen! I also ordered a cup of black regular coffee and it was truly delightful, no adjustments to that flavor needed in my opinion! We were attended by a couple other servers and everyone was polite and sweet. I felt very relaxed and as if I were valued as a customer. I hope Krynn has many sweet customers who appreciate how nice she is! I hope to be back someday and would definitely recommend Helen restaurant.

The onion rings had too much breading on them, which I didn't think was possible, but here we are. The part of the breading next to the onion was mushy so that threw off the texture of the whole thing too. The burger was very much like a Whataburger. Even the lettuce smelled the same. I got The Standard and the bun of the burger was a little mushy (similar to Whataburger) and there was not much meat. For an $11 burger, I'm expecting more than a Whataburger. My middle kid likes everything on her burger and isn't picky at all and the loaded kid burger looked impressive but it was about the same as mine. Not awful, but not very good either. Very close to the same amount of meat. She's the queen of the Clean Plate Club and she only ate half. We arrived fairly early, shortly after opening, but the place was already bustling and the hot bar was full of yummy-looking and smelling food. It has a pleasant, sort of old-timey feel, which makes sense given it's been open since the 70s. This is a "Greek and three," fairly common in Bham, so they offer country cooking favorites like fried chicken in addition to Greek foods like souvlaki. You order as you move through the line in front of the hot bar. The food is protected from guests by glass so it doesn't feel as icky as a buffet does (to me, at least). The folks working the hot bar were pleasant and working diligently. There was one waitress who was suuuuper bossy and a little short with me (she really didn't want me to stand still and look at a paper menu, apparently), but she eventually warmed to us after my dad chatted her up while she was getting our drinks. I ordered fried chicken with yams and fried okra. My mom also got fried chicken, hers with mashed potatoes and cabbage. My dad tried the baked Greek chicken with green beans and macaroni and cheese. I snagged a roll and a sweet tea to drink. The tea was refreshing and not overly sweet. The food was overwhelmingly quite solid. My fried chicken breast wasn't ready when I ordered it so I had to wait a while for it to be prepared, but on the bright side it arrived piping hot and super crispy. It was great fried chicken, clearly brined and flavorful throughout, not just on the crunchy batter. The yams were nicely spiced and not overly soft. The fried okra was a delight as well, crispy and plentiful. The roll was average, but nbd. My parents were also quite happy with their meals. My mom RAVED about the cabbage and ate all her mashed potatoes and gravy. The macaroni and cheese was outstanding (I wish I'd gotten three sides and it been my third). The Greek chicken was succulent and light. The only so-so item was the green beans, and even those were decent. Definitely worth a visit if you're in Birmingham! One of the better meat and twos/threes I've had in a while.
