I can't believe that as many times I've been here - I haven't written a review! This is probably my favorite "meat & twos" in the city. As Bre likes to say, she's cooks with a twist! They have the best cakes I've ever had. The Red Velvet cake was absolutely incredible. If you get the chance, be sure to order the blackened chicken salad either for the table or to take home. My mom and I used to attend church in Bessemer, and Bre's was on our rotation of places to eat after service. I haven't visited here in about 4 years before my mom passed. Mom would buy hundreds of dollars in gift certificates every Christmas for her church friends to enjoy a lunch or two on her. I remember the owner being super sweet and accommodating to my dear mother and her requests. Top notch customer service! As for the food, the rotation varied daily. Most of my visits were on Sundays, but I do remember a couple of trips during the week to try the lasagna, which was delicious. I really enjoyed the Mac and cheese, and Caribbean grilled pork chops. The desserts were great too, however I think I remember the owner partnering with another business to supply the cake slices, so the choices varies. They are opened 11-3pm. They were crowded with folks in line to eat there and take out like me. The kitchen is restocking the steam line as needed. Unfortunately there was a short wait on several items I wanted so I went with the Caribbean Chicken, yellow rice & fried corn. Corn was seasoned well but needed 35 mins in convection oven to cook completely. I don't understand why they don't cook it more so it isn't crunchy? Their chicken sauce was delicious. Spicy and sweef, but not too spicy. Chicken breast (yes only 1 piece of chicken) was dry even with the sauce. I chewed it and then threw it to my happily waiting dog. Skin was fatty like and my dog got it too. I use the Hawaiian roll they pulled out the bag unheated and unbuttered to sop up that sweet chili sauce and buttered corn juice. There's a reason I don't go there often. I want to support BOBs but I've been disappointed two days in a row. I considered getting a sweet tea but their price is ridiculous when not eating there and I can get refills. I got a cup of ice and 1 Liter of Lipton Tea from the corner store for $1.75. Enough tea to sip on all night for half the price of a cup of tea there. I admit I must be the issue, because they were doing a brisk business of repeat and new customers. I kid you not a lady apologized for jumping the line to just look at the steam line. I'm sure she played the middle age lady high on weed in a Tyler Perry movie. I wanted to ask her if that was her but she was deciding on her lunch very intensely. She got her tray and sat down to attack her meal in a way that said leave me alone. The facility is clean and organized. The owner is on top of the kitchen when trays are running low. She is making sure her line moves quickly. For $13 and change for a meat and two I will be back. I was pleasantly surprised by this southern cafeteria style restaurant right off the highway. You could tell the energy was good and friendly. Bre was serving herself, this business is family owned. She came by to talk to us and I could tell she was passionate about her food and customers. I would consider them for a larger catering event due to the flavor and variety. There were all kinds of main proteins and sides typical of Southern cooking. I opted for the Cilantro Like Salmon over a salad with the summer style vinaigrette. I got corn and a roll on the side. Food is always good and fresh, seasoned perfectly. Staff are always friendly and welcoming, Bre herself will greet you with a smile and tell you what specials they have for the day. I usually go here at least once a week. Highly recommend the baked chicken, either of the salmon flavors and the smothered pork chops. Lemonade is SWEET, but balances out if you drink it over ice. Omg... good, good, good food! I've never heard of Bre's restaurant before they catered my cousins baby shower but now I know and I'm a fan. The catering staff was nice and professional.. top notch. The food was delish!! I love a good pasta dish! I craving it right now. The shrimp and grits was good. My family loved how creamy the grits were. I noticed how seasoned the shrimp was. Very generous portions of shrimp was served with each cup of shrimp & grits. Some of my other favorites was the chicken salad croissant sandwiches and the rolled sandwiches. And there were chicken wings (lemon pepper and maybe Caribbean flavor I didn't get a taste of the chicken and waffles but I noticed my son going back for seconds. I cannot wait to go into the restaurant to see what other goodies Bre's has to offer. Update: I went to the restaurant the next day (Sunday) for some good Sunday soul food. They were open until 5 and I got there around 4. Lesson learned: get there early. The only thing that was left was baked chicken & some lasagna for the meat. They brought out a fresh pan of Mac & cheese and cabbage. I got both bc the greens were sold out. I also picked up a slice of red velvet cake. It was all good and I ate it all in one setting. Pretty impressed with this place. Super clean interior, friendly staff, really good food and great prices. They've got a grab and go cooler with some pre packaged deserts, drinks and a few other items that look like they'd make for a pretty good quick lunch. Definitely worth a visit. Today I had some pork chops, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes and gravy and a small pecan pie. The pork chop was falling off the bone, well seasoned and delicious. The mac and cheese was baked, gooey and reminded me of when someones grandma makes a big batch of it for a holiday. The potatoes were chunky and made from real potatoes with a light gravy that tasted like it was maybe seasoned with a little white pepper. Very good stuff. With the pie and the drink thr total was about 14 bucks. About 4 more dollars than you'd spend on fast food and you can eat here and get completely full. Definitely a great deal. Got there a little early for lunch and was surprised to see under new ownership. Wifey is hungry so in we go. Cafeteria style and nothing but favorites. Baked chicken and dressing with a light gravu and mac and cheese as my side. Evthg cooked to perfection and seasoned just right. The corn bread muffin left nothing to desire. Hands down my favorite soul food restaurant in Bessemer. I heard about these guys through word of mouth and I was very pleased. The food was cooked to perfection. Unlike most soul food restaurants, the food isn't cooked with a ton of salt, but it doesn't lack any flavor. The seating area is a good size with plenty of seating. It is very clean and the staff is friendly. The owner is very sweet and engaging. I will definitely be going back again. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by this establishment. The food was attractively displayed on the line, the staff was informative and attentive, it was extremely clean and organized. My nephew and I had a great lunch in our new favorite place. The tab for two was half that it would have been for the place we were in route to when we decided to stop at Bre's. The food is delicious and very well seasoned. The vegetables are fresh, delicious and perfectly cooked. The chicken salad was delicious for lunch. I have a new favorite dish every time I go and eat. The atmosphere is friendly, comfortable and clean. I am always pleasantly surprised at the menu options. I live for Thursdays Lasagna, Sunday's Ox tails and cornbread dressing and the fried green tomatoes. The peach cobbler and homemade cakes are a must try every time. I'm riding on Bessemer super highway on yesterday and saw this lit up sign in the darkness headed to Bessemer. I asked my honey what was it? She said she thinks it's a gas station I was like umm didn't see any pumps... fast forward to today, I'm yet again riding through Bessemer and pass by Bre's. I was like what the heck I'm looking for something new. I was greeted with friendly faces and helpful attitudes! If you know me... customer service is EVERYTHING.... so it was a huge plus. The place was clean and the bathrooms... smelling good. It was very spacious. I sit in because it's my off day, I don't have that much to do(which doesn't happen often). I'm glad I did! It was a joy to listen to the friendly interaction of the owner with the customers, it's a southern food joint with Great Southern hospitality! I tried the whitening fish, fried hard, Mac n Cheese, and the mixed veges was a good choice. The exceptional hospitality went further as the owner brought me my food to my table, which was a pleasant surprise to discover that she was the owner. The only thing that I regret from this experience was not being able to try this gourmet burger that she spoke of and the customers raves about as I sat there.. so that gives me a pretty good excuse to come back. Don't let the size or location of this place fool you! It has some if the best soul food with style in the Birmingham area. It has been placed in our monthly pounce destination rotation. It has everything from Jerk chicken to Oxtail and rice. The deserts are divine and so is the service. If you just want a burger instead of what is on the buffet they are more than happy to cook one for you. If you are in the Birmingham area it is worth a try you will not regret it. read more

Exquisite service. Food was tremendously delicious. Service- Spectacular. Our Red Hat Society chapter contacted Bre's to cater our Christmas party. The delivery person was on time, polite and experienced. He set up the buffet with piping hot foods that were hot and arranged cold foods where they needed to be. When we served ourselves the room went quiet. Everyone was enjoying the mouth-watering fare that was clearly homemade. I've been a customer of Bre's for quite some time and I've had several experiences with the servers using their gloved hands to puck up my bread, and some chicken once. But I checked that immediately and asked to "use the tongs". Those gloves hands have been on counter, etc., but my most recent incident/experience. About the first week of December I ordered a German Chocolate Cake for Christmas. I was told that the cakes will be distributed on that Wednesday, the 23rd of December. Several times I went into Bre's during the weeks before the 23rd, I reminded her, the owner about my cake order. And several times I was told "I gotcha". On the Sunday before the coming Wednesday I mentioned to Ms Bre again. She asked me "do we have your number we'll call you yo pickup ". Do on that Wednesday Dec 23rd I was getting groceries and one of the workers called me at 4:15pm and said your cake is ready to be picked up. I responded "Thank you for calling me I'll be right on my way I want my cake"! When I got there about 25 minutes later. Ms Bre told me that the cake had been mistakenly given to another male customer! Really? A Mistake! Highly unlikely! Who walks away with a whole cake without looking in the box? And not come back for their rightfully ordered cake? Ms Bre tried selling me a caramel cake, a chocolate cake, a pie. I refused. Then she offered me dinner. I refused. Really! Im not going to bore you with the disappointing feelings I experienced and the change of plans I had to make for my son who had been told his mom was going to have German chocolate cake for holidays. So Ms Bre offered to bake me a German Chocolate Cake for the New Years holiday. She promised me the following Tuesday. That was her resolve for the situation! I HAVEN'T HEARD FROM HER YET! And I Wasn't Expecting to. SHE SOLD MY PROMISED CAKE....AND THOUGHT THAT I WOULD JUST BUY ONE OF THE FOUR CAKES SHE COULDN'T REACH THE PERSONS THAT HAD ORDERED THEM! Ms Bre had a well numbered neatly written cake orders' list. My order was high upon her list. In no way can you mistakenly sell someone the wrong cake by the looks of her list. Anyway, crazy mistakes happens but my ill feelings comes from Ms Bre not Making her wrong half way right. She d I don't keep her fast talking word! Offering me something I didn't want and/or ordered couldn't make it right. I told her, "I can make a chocolate cake myself, I don't like red velvet cake, and I don't like her caramel cake, I Ordered what I wanted"! Guess what? I know how to make German Chocolate Cake Now! And it was Delicious! We as a people must not accept less. That was the intent... "oh I'll sell her one of these ain't been picked up", I'm going to sell this one now.
