Initially the communication was great and I felt like I was in good hands. It is a small law firm, but they are very knowledgeable. After a few months, the communication was abysmal. I would make a call or send an email and would wait actual weeks for a reply. I get it: people are busy and I am far from their only client. I was told initially I would make a down payment and could pay the rest later. Suddenly I was told for them to continue doing work I had to pay them the rest. Okay, no big deal. However the first check was returned to me unopened. Maybe I wrote down the address wrong? I'm not sure. So my ex tried to drop off a check in person and they weren't open. I didn't realize I would have to beg them to take the money. In early December I emailed them, giving them one last chance. I sent another email and finally got a response that they were very sorry, they were in Florida on vacation and would reply when they were back in the office. It's February 4 and still no reply. That's one hell of a vacation! (Mind you, in between that email and January 1 I drove to Florida for a vacation. I was somehow still able to handle my work emails). I tried again. Still nothing, and no returned messages when I called. I genuinely hope everyone there is okay but I feel like something may have happened. They used to be so organized and responsive. As for the half payment? Likely will never see that. Next time you want to waste money, at least have fun with it.

Unfortunately, my experience was disappointing. Key issues that I specifically instructed counsel to raise--most importantly my request for shared parenting (50/50)--were not meaningfully included in the filings submitted on my behalf. The official transcript clearly reflects my position, yet the court's final order mischaracterized my request, which had a direct impact on the outcome of my case. Additionally, no closing argument was presented at trial, and communication following the hearing became increasingly difficult. At critical stages, further action appeared to be conditioned on additional payment despite prior substantial fees. What was most concerning was the tone of communication toward the end of the representation, which became unprofessional and dismissive rather than focused on resolving the matter. I understand that outcomes are not guaranteed in legal matters; however, clients should expect that their position is clearly and accurately represented, and that communication remains professional throughout the process. She listened fully to me and it sounded like she would work out well. I don't think she listened, because I would have to constantly remind her of everything and double check her work. She was out of town or would not call back for months on end. At some point I found out that the opposing counsel was trying to set up a a resolution that she never responded to. I had to fire her and have not received my paperwork back yet. Don't think I'll see it...
