Our house on Euclid Avenue in Upland was built in 1914, and the antique mortise lock on the front door was no longer operational. We called Katz, and Athena came out the very same day. After disassembling the lock and cleaning all of its internal pieces, Athena was able to figure out what was causing the problem - one of the parts had a section that had worn down over time. Because replacement parts are next to impossible to find, Athena was able to use a small piece of metal to craft a new piece that rectified the issues caused by the old, worn piece. It took a lot of trial and error, but Athena persisted until the lock was reassembled and working perfectly. The charge for this two-and-a-half hour house call was very fair. Quick update and response for the owner.. You guys were awesome and very responsive. I needed a new key for my truck and I was stranded at a hotel we had already checked out of and couldn't find my keys. I forgot my friend had them when he grabbed my suitcase out of the truck for me the night before. And then he left to run an errand and didn't come back until the next evening, (leaving me stranded and frantically calling everyone), and supposedly didn't realize he had my keys. But he did come back that evening and he did have my keys. So it all worked out that day. But kudos to your staff. They were genuinely friendly and obviously wanted to help in any way they could. I could tell that they were concerned and wanted to help and I felt like they really cared. And sometimes just that alone can turn a bad day around. I am so upset that this business would take advantage of people at a vulnerable stage in life. I was charged the following: 1. Every lock and handle a total of 5 at 75, WHICH WAS NOT CLARIFIED AT THE TIME OF THE PHONE CALL, THEY MADE IT SEEM PER DOOR IT WOULD BE $75 NOT PER DOOR KNOB AND THE LOCK FOR KEY. 2. An additional fee for coming to my home 3 doors later with all the materials provided by me I paid $400, plus what I spent at Home Depot another $350. She also took my brand-new door knobs, without giving me an additional discount. Please know my door locks were brand-new from a brand-new home which I am sure she used to install on someone else's house and charged like brand-new. Please be extra careful. I had reached out due to personal reasons and of keeping myself and my daughter safe. We had a restraining order on my ex and did not know what other options I had at the time. Looking back at my situation, it is very saddening to know people will take advantage of you regardless of what situation you are in. Old lock, sliding patio door. Joshua arrived on time, neat and polite. He recognized an old lock, no longer made nor available. He worked on the old lock diligently for about 45 minutes and got it to function. One year warranty on the job. In writing. Cost was $50.00 for the service, as the lock cannot be replaced nor are parts available. Many companies turn out to be gunslingers for hire, farmed out from 1-800 phone numbers, requesting up to $800.00 to bring the part and replace it. Without seeing the job, only by photos I sent. 30 day guarantee, sort of. Sketchy. Especially since the part is no longer made, which I was pretty certain of prior to calling. read more

WARNING: SCAM ARTIEST!! My daughter had just purchased a craftsman house in Ontario California. She wanted to put some deadbolt locks and some latches on her gates to put padlocks in to secure her yard and also wanted to put some deadbolt locks on her doors. I decided to help her out by making an appointment with the locksmith because she was very busy with the new move and I wanted to take some pressure off of her. I am a disabled senior citizen. And when this man came to give me an estimate on the work he saw that I was alone and elderly and he gave me a verbal quote for all the work that I had told him I needed he said he would charge me $500 if I paid cash for a cash discount on the all the work. It sounded like a high estimate but it was the memorial day weekend and we had just moved in this house and I was a little worried about being in a new neighborhood and wanted to have peace of mind knowing that my daughter had some deadbolt locks and some security on her doors and gates. So I agreed to his price for the entire work that he had offered. One hour into the work he finished what he said was the latches for the padlocks on the two gates to the entry of the rear of the house. This was my first WARNING SIGN!!! The latches that he installed were worth maybe $.50 if that? A five-year-old could bend them in their bare hands that's how poor quality these latches were when I told him that I was not happy with the quality of the material he supplied he got hot under the collar!!! And was annoyed because I started to question him??? His name is Dale by the way. I got his first rated and just said let him finish the work I'm not a person to shortchange anybody for a days work and I wasn't about to do so now. He proceeded doing the rest of his "job" Half an hour longer he gets a phone call and tells me he hast to leave to go to another job and he be back in about an hour. He did not return until three hours later. When he returned it was already getting dark and I could tell that he was anxious to get home from a long days work and he wanted to take shortcuts. The picture included is one of the areas he took shortcuts in my living room. He then started to tell me that one of the doors that he agreed to fix he change the story and said that if I wanted that door fixed that he would charge me $30 just to open up and look inside the mechanism to see what he can do and the price could go up if you decided to fix it anywhere from $80-$400 more? He's a locksmith and he is telling me he doesn't know what to expect??? I told him that he agreed to do all work for $500 cash and dad door was included he started Two races voice and demand that he did not include the door in the world.!!! He got more and more agitated by the minute and started to call to his boss and then his boss said "don't finish the job and charge her the full price!!" He demanded that I pay him $470 plus tax which came up to $490 and two jobs were left unfinished and he left holes in my wall and dirt all over my floor and fingerprints all over my freshly painted walls and doors! He is a dirty pig his breath stinks and he is sweaty and smelly you can't help but hold your breath when he's in the room. So I told him I was not going to pay him until he finished his one order lock for the bathroom he refused!!! I told him that I would make sure to leave his company bad reviews on yelp. He then got livid and threatened to take down all of his work and rip them off of my walls if I did not pay. I called up the police department to officer showed up and they told me that they did not blame me that this is the kind of scam that businesses like his run to take advantage of the elderly and the disabled. So I told the officers I'm scared of him because he threatened to come in my house and rip my walls off the offer Sis told me to pay him off and take him to small claims court. Which I am planning on doing. PLEASE DO NOT LET THIS COMPANY WORK FOR YOU OR GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING THEY ARE CON ARTIEST!! Update: This person who claims they are the owner Who replied to my review is the one who was on the phone with the technician and order them to come in my home break down the door if they have to and rip out every item they installed if I didn't paid them in full! Did you notice how the manager didn't respond to the photograph of how they damage my door and left a hole in my wall? Also the manager never referenced a police report that has been made against them for taking advantage of a disabled senior citizen. This manager had no intention of fixing this this manager was on the phone with their technician telling them to rip old doors out of my house and come in forcefully into my home. Your technician left dirt in every area they worked in and I am a disabled person that had to clean after your dirty technician who didn't care one bit that I have to bend down and sweep and clean after him. Found this place on Yelp and read reviews which made me request a quote. They were fast in responding and quoted $120 to re-make a key of ours. That was $20 more than a few other places we called however, due to their quick response, we gave them a try. The man on the phone said they would be available at 2pm. I received a call around 1:20pm and they said they were delayed and were running late. Unfortunately, they didnt show up until after 5pm. When they arrived they worked with my husband and were able to re-key our truck. Final cost was over $150, and would have given 5 stars for their service and getting our key and remote set up. Unfortunately, waiting over 3-4 hours kept us from using the truck, and I kept having to reschedule appts because of the delays. Nevertheless, the guys were cordial and kept calling to let us know they were running late; and appreciated having access to our truck once again. I went into this place for what I thought was a simple task - I wanted to get a spare car key cut and programmed to work with my car. I had 2 master keys already, and I wanted this one to be a spare. The guy working at the time (I believe he is the owner) told me he was working on another car at the moment but that it'd be about 30 minutes. I said no problem, left my keys there, and walked down the street to get something to eat. 30somethingish minutes later, I came back, and he hadn't even started yet. I guess he was still dealing with the same person he was dealing with when I'd left. But ok fine, no big deal, he got to work soon after that. He goes to the car, fiddles around, and a few minutes later, tells me that the car can only have 2 keys maximum programmed at any given time, and as I already had 2, he had to deprogram one of the others to program my spare. I said ok, paid, and went on my way. When I got home, I thought about what he said, and it didn't sound right, so I looked it up, and it was wrong - my car has space for 5 keys. After doing some more research, I bought a cable off of ebay that allowed me to connect my computer to my car, and was able to reprogram the key that he said he had to deprogram. I wish I had done this research before even going to this guy in the first place. Coulda saved me like $60 and my time. Horrible. This guy might be good for home locks, but he's incompetent when it comes to auto. read more
