BONE DEATH, JOB LOSS & DISABILITY - My Experience with Dr. Richard Cain…read more I wish I could give zero stars. My experience with Dr. Richard Cain at BayCare Orthopedic Institute has left me permanently disabled and struggling to take care of my family. I first saw him in March 2025 with an MRI showing a subchondral insufficiency fracture in my left knee. He put me on 6 weeks of non-weight bearing, then told me to walk again with an offloader brace that didn't help at all. Despite my severe pain and repeated requests for updated imaging, he refused and instead pushed ahead with surgery. On May 5, 2025, he performed a subchondroplasty using an MRI that was already nearly 3 months old. After surgery, my pain only got worse. At follow-up visits in May and July, I begged him for help and asked again for another MRI. He brushed me off, saying, "Sometimes you'll still have pain after surgery," and offered no pain management. By July, I was in so much pain that I booked an emergency appointment. Only then did he finally order an MRI -- and even admitted he had never reviewed a post-op subchondroplasty MRI before. That MRI (July 24, 2025) showed the fracture had grown larger and now there was bone necrosis (bone death). At my August 1 visit, he promised to call me personally after consulting a colleague but never did. I had to chase him down through the patient portal just to get a referral a week later. Because of Dr. Cain's negligence, I've been wheelchair-bound for months, unable to properly care for my 3-year-old toddler, and at serious risk of losing my job as I've exhausted FMLA benefits, and my job has let me know they will let me go if I need more time off for additional surgeries and recovery. My condition has progressed to bone death, and I feel completely abandoned as his patient. I went to Dr. Cain expecting for my condition to improve, and instead, it drastically declined. I strongly believe Dr. Cain should not be allowed to operate on anyone else, and I definitely cannot recommend him for any and all orthopedic needs, especially with anything to do with knee issues. I write this as I sit from my wheelchair, and I used to be a very active person. Do what you will this review, but please reconsider and stay away from this orthopedic practice, especially Dr. Cain.

Waiting for Dr. Cooper doesn't take long either. I get really impatient with the offices that have appointments but then you wait around for a hour to just get to a room. Not here. Each visit is quick, to the point and informational but he also makes sure I understand everything before leaving.

He removed the cyst at the New Port Richey Surgery Center with so much skill and compassion, and I felt supported every step of the way. The ladies at the surgery center were amazing -- kind, patient, and comforting, which made a huge difference on surgery day. What truly stood out was how Dr. Candelora and his office expedited my upcoming carpal tunnel release because they understood how important my hands are to my career and my passion. This entire office is full of wonderful people who genuinely care about their patients. I'm so thankful for the care I received and can't wait to get back to decorating donuts with pain-free hands again. If you need orthopedic care, I highly recommend them.

My surgical nurse Mandi was such a great, great lady! She llaughed when she handed me the ever so lovely pull ups! Best part she was even able to talk me off the ledge, I was truly wigging out! My Dr. Moynihan was great, I even got his autograph ( on my knee).Anthony after surgery was amazing with post op care. Had me up and moving in no time and helped explain my care when home to my Hubble and myself, which I don't remember most of it. That would be a great reason so have your person there to get it. Home now with care from a very over protective Hubble. Guess I will enjoy that part for awhile!

I recently survived a car wreck but my spinal column was injured. A Specialist Doctor here reviewed…read moremy MRI raw data, somewhat described my injuries to me, suggested an intense course of steroids to reduce inflammation, to be followed up with Physical Therapy and Chiropractic. The doctor also prescribed a muscle relaxer, but they do not write ANY prescriptions for pain medication. They only refer patients to a Pain Management Clinic. It's a Florida thing. Paying out-of-pocket, the office visit was only $120. I thought that was very reasonable - until I discovered it's for 15 minutes of the doctor's time. He couldn't interview me about my signs and symptoms, review my MRI, and discuss treatment options with me in 15 minutes! After waiting 3 weeks for this appointment, I would have gladly paid $240 to get 30 minutes of the doctor's time. You better make sure your medical records and MRI's get here before your appointment, and then talk fast! We never got to discuss my specific Physical Therapy needs at all, but they did give me the business cards for 3 PT clinics. And I will be receiving some prescriptions to reduce inflammation in my spine. I am rating 5-stars because WCMI certainly knows what they are doing, but visits are somewhat rushed and overlapping. Be prepared and you should be okay. -------------------------------------------------- Updates: #1. The steroid treatment they gave me has been a Godsend. That's why they get 5-stars. They are good doctors and caring doctors. #2. I spoke with the Administrator and we agreed to disagree. He doesn't want any patients to feel rushed, but they do schedule 15 minute appointments. That is standard for most doctors in the US.

When we arrived on time, Dr. Conner immediately made a rude comment about throwing her in the back for being late. Instead of focusing on her medical issue, he kept interrupting her, demanding answers, and then started lecturing us about professionalism. Then, he suddenly refused to treat her, threw a towel into another room, and walked out. Our young children were present and left in tears because they didn't understand why a doctor was acting that way. This was an awful experience--avoid this place at all costs.

The surgery went very well and aftercare was excellent. If you're looking for a awesome orthopedic surgeon, this is your guy. He is very caring and very thorough when explaining the surgery and aftercare I went home the same day of my surgery and he is so patient and kind I just can't praise him enough. He did an excellent job on my shoulder. He has great people working on his staff, and I would recommend Dr Williams to anyone looking for this awesome doctor.

Unfortunately, he has shown a huge decline in his performance and would seek elsewhere for surgery, moving forward. I've lost trust in him as a surgeon. After seeing that he has had 3 arrests since January 2021, and 2 of them are DUI's, it's very concerning! Evidently, he was convicted of his last DUI in August 2025, with property damage. I would NEVER be able trust this surgeon to operate on me again, after seeing his mugshot online. I would be hard-pressed to have him come near me, if he was drunk or hungover, while holding a scalpel in his hand. I was devastated to see a once reputable surgeon fall of the wagon. Stay clear!
