It only took a few minutes before I was called in for my Appointment. A very skilled Medical Assistant thoroughly reminded me on How to do the Breathing Test. He was chatting with the office staff until 8:15 when I decided to leave. I asked the front office woman for my copay back since I had been waiting over an hour and was never seen. Dr.Z had overheard and started yelling at ME in front of the waiting room of patients! I was absolutely horrified. He was yelling "I'm right here, lets have this appointment now then if that's what you want!" I said no thank you I had to leave for work in which he replied "You're being ridiculous, you don't deserve your copay back!" I'm very shaken up and concerned about the medical practice he is running. I will be calling the board of licensure regarding his treatment of patients. Not to mention the medical assistants are very poorly trained and the office was very run down and dirty.

The facility is run down and feels dirty from the moment you walk in. The doctor (Dr. MacMillan) decided there was nothing wrong with my ears before she even took the time to run any diagnostics. She spent five minutes talking to me and decided I was a "non compliant" patient- which she told me to my face. I have been having issues hearing so I thought I would get better care at a specialized doctor. I would've gotten better care at the checkout in a CVS. After two visits and a hearing test- which she said was "perfect" even though I have had countless doctors tell me from a young age that I have hearing damage from infections in my youth- I am slapped with a $340 bill. She didn't help me at all, her bedside manner was condescending, and the bill was over the top to say the least. Avoid this doctor and save yourself the judgement and a whole lot of money.

I was told that this would be no problem and that I had to come in for a consultation first. I came in and was told by Dr. Macmillan that she would not do the test "in case I have an allergic reaction" and that people do not grow out of allergies. I have been tested twice by two different doctors in the past for my allergy and it was completely safe and I know that sometimes allergies can come and go. She said "well, is it that difficult having an allergy?" when I inquired why I wouldn't be able to get tested. The appointment lasted less than five minutes and I still had to give a $25 copay. When asked if the copay could be waived due to the misinformation I was given, she laughed and said have a good day.

The second time they canceled they said someone called me, but I had no message. They could not provide the time or day that the message was left. Dr. Newberry is an excellent doctor. I came to him in December of 2022, having had pulsatile…read moretinnitus in my left ear for six months. Before meeting with Dr. Newberry, I had seen several other providers (an NP, an MD, and a PA) through other organizations and they all either dismissed the seriousness of my symptoms as anxiety and allergies, or misdiagnosed me with an ear infection or Eustachian Tube Dysfunction. Dr. Newberry's approach was completely different. He was the first doctor who actually took me seriously. He was immediately concerned because it turns out persistent one-sided pulsatile tinnitus can be a symptom of a very serious and potentially dangerous condition called a dural AV fistula; however, while he mentioned the possibility of a dAVF (among other conditions), he also didn't jump to conclusions. He was very thorough. Over the course of a few months, we did some blood work, scans, and tests to figure out what might be causing it. When one of those scans finally came back abnormal, Dr. Newberry provided an immediate referral for me to see a neuroradiologist who eventually diagnosed me with a dural AV fistula. Dural AV fistulas are rare and complex, and I say this to point out that Dr. Newberry didn't let this deter him; he didn't discount a dAVF as a possible diagnosis, despite the fact it was unlikely because I didn't have any headaches at the time (a hallmark symptom of dural AV fistulas). I'm so grateful to him because other providers obviously dismissed the possibility that I had such a rare condition, probably because it was simply unlikely. Had I not seen Dr. Newberry, it's very possible this condition might have gone undiagnosed and led to a stroke or brain hemorrhage in a decade or so; alternately, it could have eventually led to a misdiagnosis of dementia or other neurological conditions due to the impact it can have on cognitive functioning. In general, Dr. Newberry is very easy to talk to and has a great bedside manner. He's a good listener, and I would describe him as highly competent and on the cutting edge of ENT medicine. As someone who has been repeatedly let down by medical providers over the years, I find myself trusting his opinion. He can see the big picture as well as the details, and never loses sight of the fact that his patient is a human being. My experience with Rhode Island ENT as an organization has also been great. I have found it very easy to schedule appointments with them. The receptionists and medical assistants are pleasant and competent. They send appointment reminder text messages which is helpful. I have never had any issue with them forgetting to order a prescription or send in a referral, or any hiccups with insurance. Though I do remember experiencing some initial frustration trying to schedule an appointment as a new patient due to the call routing, since I've become a patient, I've found it very easy to work with them.

He was part of my network, so I picked him out of the list of providers. I had not read the Yelp reviews until I was at the actual office waiting to be seen. When I explained to him that sometimes I get a rash or breakout after eating certain things, he asked me if the reaction was quick, like 10-20 min...I said no, it usually takes a day or so....He then said, that might not be an allergy then. He basically said, just avoid eating what you think is causing you the reaction. I felt that he was very dismissive and very un-caring. There are ways to convey a message across to a patient and I felt that he was just not very good at it. Overall I did not feel this was a good clinic for people to receive care where they can get answers and attentive care.

I waited several months for an appointment with an allergist at this practice and was instructed to…read morestop taking antihistamines 5 days prior, which was quite uncomfortable. I expected this preparation to be followed by comprehensive testing--unfortunately, it was not. I was told over the phone that they do not test for things like celiac but I still expected for them to do more than hand me a couple of print outs. My appointment was over an hour late. During the wait, I overheard another patient complaining about being forgotten in the room for two hours. When I was finally seen, the nurse documented my symptoms and concerns. Initially, I appreciated the thorough approach, but it proved to be unhelpful. I sought help for issues that have been previously ruled out by other professionals, including unusual reactions to various triggers, breathing issues, and chronic hives. Dr. Robert Settipane informed me that no testing was necessary unless I had something like a severe peanut allergy. He provided a list of foods for an elimination diet, which I had already completed before the appointment. He mentioned another allergist nearby who performs extensive testing but added "he only accepts good insurance." Dr. Settipane dismissed my severe sun/UV light reactions as rosacea (the symptoms don't align whatsoever), despite my detailed description of the issue, and gave me a few printouts for over the counter medications that I've already tried with little to no relief. He offered zero other solutions. After enduring months of hives and unexplained reactions, I now need to find another allergist who will conduct the necessary tests instead of making open judgments based on insurance coverage. Dr. Settipane also claimed that my hives were too small and light, trivializing my distressing symptoms, including but not limited to rashes, gastrointestinal discomfort, and shortness of breath. Additionally, I tried to address my lifelong breathing issues, but was dismissed again due to the lack of a prior asthma diagnosis--despite the fact that I came to an Allergy and ASTHMA center. It would have been helpful to receive treatment for my breathing difficulties and frequent bronchitis since childhood. But again, Dr. Settipane couldn't be bothered to even try to come up with a reasonable solution to my problem. I cannot recommend this practice, as patients should not be treated based on their insurance when they're in network. I have never had a doctor openly imply that my insurance coverage isn't good enough to investigate my concerns. This was certainly a first. It was an astronomical waste of time.
