The place is so beautiful it will make you want to be Hindu. The tour conductor is good but you must go on a day that they let outsiders into the stone temple area, which after decades of hand carving, is now complete. read more

Went here with some friends of ours who lost a family member while on our trip to Kauai. This was a very therapeutic visit. I'm not Hindu but our friends are. The tour guide was very nice and inviting even for someone who is not of said religion. Allowed us to participate in some of the rituals and was complimentary of us participating. We felt very welcomed. The temple and the grounds are beyond beautiful and amazing. I had a fantastic time. Definitely drop some donations to help them finish the projects. read more

Very beautiful location. There is a dress code but they provide free sarongs (to borrow) to cover up outside the temple. We did not plan our trip well and missed the tour to the temple in the back but if you plan on visiting I'd be sure to get all the information online before just showing up. They allow you to witness and be part of a ceremony and also have a group that goes back to the temple in the mountains. Very beautiful property and lots of information about it's history. read more

Beautiful grounds, wonderful chanting in temple and a welcoming introduction during the service. A lovely visit overall, with an odd twist at the end. It was a slow day with not many visitors, and as I was enjoying perusing the gift shop and paying for several purchases I had made to help support the temple, an older woman dressed in white who had just exited the shop and was about to close the door stuck her head back in. I was in the midst of an interesting conversation with the cashier when the woman interrupted. I had borrowed one of the lending sarongs at the entrance--a lovely pink and white one--and the woman in white let me know I hadn't needed to borrow one since I had long pants on. I told her I felt more respectful and cheery in it, but she was clearly annoyed. She snapped back that sometimes they ran out and I shouldn't have borrowed it. She went on strangely to suggest I should buy one if I liked them that much! The tone of the cashier I had been speaking with changed after the woman in white addressed me, pointing to where the sarongs for sale where. Very odd! There had been at least 25 neatly rolled sarongs at the entrance for borrowing when I arrived, and about the same number when I returned mine. It was a strange ending to an otherwise lovely first visit to this beautiful temple. When I was in my 30s I landed a marketing job for a large museum, and my first day overheard two curators (museum scientists) in an elevator talking about how great life would be at the museum if they could just do their research and not be bothered by all the pesky museum guests who disrupted their work. I saw then that these two had lost their way regarding the true mission of a museum scientist: Their success is inextricably linked to their ability to share their journey of discovery with others!m. This devotee reminded me of those two--territorial and resentful rather than welcoming. This was probably not her best moment when it came to representing her Hindu practice (and the ethos of this temple community, for that matter). At 65 I know both that 90 percent of how people behave has little to do with others, and everything to do with themselves. I also know that to err is human. I share this feedback because it would be a shame if other visitors--especially the young and searching--were made (even inadvertently) to feel, ultimately, as unwelcome as I was. Luckily, we all have the opportunity to be a better version of ourselves tomorrow. read more

the mantras chanted were not accurate and no kumkum or turmeric or even theerdham (holy water) was given. Everyone was white even priests which was a little weird because they said it was South Indian. Also the creator is named gurudeva which is a name we call our gods not our priests. And there's an idol of him as if he's a god which is super weird. Absolutely beautiful and scenic but the temple didn't feel like a real temple but a whitewashed hippie paradise version. RECOMMEND TO SEE BEAUTY BUT NOT FOR RELIGIOUS REASONS. Didn't feel like a Hindu temple (coming from a Hindu) read more

If you practice Hinduism, try to visit the temple during the puja hours and get the full experience of praying - aarathi & prashad (sandal, kumkum, vibhudhi, thirtham). Temple is in a beautiful location and maintained well. This place embodies purity and spirituality equally. Even if you don't know or practice Hinduism, stop and visit for the beautiful scenery and the calmness in the temple. read more

What a WONDERFUL place! We love visiting temples, churches, monasteries, etc. and we did the 9am guided tour of the Hindu Temple in Kapaa. In a word AMAZING. The huge piece of land is immaculately cared for and the environment is peaceful and powerful. The tour was well done and allows you to view the grounds and visit the new temple (the first hand carved temple produced in centuries) and wraps up in the current temple. The history is rich, the grounds lush and the tour was enlightening. This is well worth the time for anyone, whether a student of eastern religions or not. Some tips: The tour is free but call ahead to reserve a parking space If you wear shorts, a tank top or short skirt you must wear a sarong that they supply Bring cash to donate to the cause or at least buy something in the shop...we need to support this wonderful gift Leave your stress at the gate and enjoy the serenity read more

I came to join the 9am meditation. This was a great spiritual experience. The entire ceremony takes 2 hours so be prepared to sit for a majority of the time. They have pillows and plastic chairs for those that need it. The first part is a monk chanting and performing a ritual of making milk, ashes, and a paste, while ringing bells. The after a time he closed a curtain and a tape of chanting continued for a while. When he opened the curtain the Seva statue he was sitting below for the previous section was completely adorned with flowers. So breathtaking! He offered incense for you to bask in. Then he proceeded to pass out ashes, a milky drink, an orange paste, and a red powder one at a time. Then a flower. So amazing and fulfilling. Om and namaste. This is a must do on Kauai! read more

As magical as you make it...go with an open heart and an open mind..and I promise you will leave feeling at peace. I was there today, returning after my last trip in 2005. This time, I went a different person as in 05 and left today feeling uplifted and at peace. The grounds are beautiful but more than the beauty visually, if your able to "connect", there is truly a deep spiritual connection... Our guide, who I can not even spell let alone pronounce was not only very informative but his delivery was filled with humor which was very refreshing...as laughter is a wonderful medicine. On these beautiful grounds there is a "temple" open for meditation. Since guided tours are maybe once a week at most, plan to make reservations as soon as you know you will be visiiting Kauai.
