Excellent service, especially as my salad was over dressed. My fault as I forgot to ask for it on the side. Our waitress immediately listened to my problem as I asked for some plain greens. She brought me a whole new salad in a few minutes! It was delicious. My husband got the beer battered fish sandwich, which was crisp and huge. It is a little noisy when crowded. We have eaten in the cozy downstairs on a Friday or Saturday late afternoon and I would recommend that space if you have hearing problems. We have been there 4-5 times in about a year and have always had super meals there! read more

We had an early Saturday dinner tonight and the place was packed and loud. Like every restaurant they were short staffed and therefore service was slow. The menu hasn't changed since the beginning. It's eclectic, diverse, and limited. As usual I had the shrimp and grits and my wife, surprise, got the huge fish sandwich. LOVELY RENOVATED ZELIENOPLE GEM. Good food and Good Service! There's really not much more you can ask for when you dine out eh? The Kaufman Tavern was recently renovated and they did a FANTASTIC job! The restaurant feels like "home." The service was great, the drinks were great, and the food was overall very tasty and well cooked! I went there with some friends for a girls night out and we were all pretty please with our meals. We agreed my friend's Lobster Linguine won favorite dish at the table but the scallops were cooked excellent and the Brussel sprouts that came with the short ribs were nothing short of something to write home about! We really enjoyed their seasonal hard pumpkin cider that added to the fun festiveness of this fall season. One piece of advise is to call ahead and/or make a reservation - we had to wait quite a while on a busy Friday night because apparently the word is out on this place! We never received drink refills or were never asked how our meal was after we had it served to us. Food was excellent. The calamari was fork tender and prepared with just the right amount of spice. Very impressed. Espresso Filet mignon was done to perfection (medium well as ordered). The asparagus (which I'm usually not a fan of) were done amazingly well. The drinks we ordered were delicious. The draft list is pretty big. The ambience is great for a date night although they also have a bar area with tv screens to watch the game on. Service was top notch. Very attentive bar staff. What a jewel of a place! We visited this place twice last week and simply fell in love with it. It's a great start for writing a review on the Valentine's Day. Isn't it? The ambiance was wonderful. A fabulous sense of history and community and hospitality. The service was so nice and friendly. Was it timely too? Hmmmmm it was if you don't mind it giving you a little extra time for conversation. The food was awesome. Not a long menu but every dish we ordered was prepared to perfection. We dined at one of their dining halls and returned on Friday to dine at their prohibition style basement. We had bruschetta, scallops, lobster bisque soup and Caesar salad for appetizer and forage burger and filet minion and hanger steak for main entree and chocolate torte for dessert. Loved all of them. We will be visiting this place frequently in the future. I strongly recommend it to anyone who would like to have a great dining experience with no rush. read more

We've gone to Kaufman a few times and have always enjoyed our experience. The environment is open and inviting, the food and drinks quite tasty and reliable, and service is decent. However, we went on Friday afternoon to watch some some sports, have some drinks and bites and had a very different experience. Our waitress upon arrival was incredibly kind and helpful. We could clearly overhear a conversation between the bartenders during the shift change about our waitress having to say goodbye to her dog a few days prior and she was upset, rightfully so. As soon as she left, the incoming staff started ridiculing her in front of the bar customers and saying it was just a dog, she should get over it, it was old, etc. The entire display was DISGUSTING!! One, don't ever bring your comments about other employees around the customers. It's not what we're there for or paying for. Two, how gross do you have to be to disrespect someone else's pain and loss and in front of customers? What if a customer sitting there has just lost a pet of their own and then had to hear this garbage? The whole thing was crass, tasteless, rude, and nasty. We would have stayed much longer and spent a few hundred dollars but instead left and went elsewhere. Honestly, we will not be back until this wait staff is gone. read more

The appetizers (Brussels sprouts and cauliflower) were amazing ! Everyone at the table was clamoring to get more. My pork chop was perfectly cooked which is impressive because I know how easy it is to overcook them. Service was really lovely; waitress, and runner alike. Welcoming and nice designed. Everything is new and clean. The bar area is beautiful, a large semicircular bar surrounded by booths. The Bartenders mix a nice assortment of specialty cocktails. There are three individual dining areas. One with hightops across the hallway from the bar. The Kaufman Tavern menu offers several Pittsburgh area favorites along with plenty of interesting choices. Everything our group of 4 ordered was very good. Specifically, the strip steak was cooked perfectly and tender. The fried chicken sandwich was equally delicious. We were there on a busy Saturday evening, service was a started out a bit slow but overall was attentive and professional. We will definitely be going back. read more

We had a disappointing experience at Kaufman Tavern yesterday. They didn't seem to have enough servers to handle the before-show crowd. After 45 minutes of waiting to get our drinks we decided to cancel our order and leave. It's a pity because we would've ordered lunch. There was one server trying to cover the tables in the bar and the front dining room, but 3 or 4 people working behind the bar. The server looked overwhelmed. We asked to speak to the manager to make him aware of the issue. He just stood there. He didn't even offer an apology. read more

Kaufman Tavern is an institution from my understanding. They've gone through a full transformation and the restaurant is stunning inside! The food and drink left a little to be desired though. For the price, none of us left feeling fully justified. Everything was GOOD, just not out of this world. The presentation was very pretty though. I will say that the bruschetta dish was our favorite! The menu is vast with plenty to choose from. Great place for a special occasion meal. Incredible food. Also great service. If I'm back in town I'll be back at Kaufman Tavern. I had the Cajun and brown sugar salmon and it was incredible. The side of asparagus was also great. I will order these again. Others in the party had the lobster linguine and raved about it, as well as the steak and Swiss sandwich and the Kaufman burger. The fries were seasoned to perfection. The ambiance of the front room was better than the rest of the restaurant, however we have nothing to complain about there. It has been a long time since I ate here when it was known as the Kaufman House. The place is now set up for outdoor dining in the back as well as indoor dining. As I entered I was greeted by a friendly masked hostess who promptly sat me in one of the rustic tables in the main dining room. The building has several different style rooms each with its own ambiance. The bar area is in the front directly to your left as you come in. A masked waitress took my order using disposable menus. Since I enjoy bison burgers I was glad they had that on the menu. It comes topped with onion straws and your typical sandwich toppings along with a side of French fries. I also noticed a vegetarian option on the menu as well as salads but not sure if anything could be made vegan. While I was waiting for my meal she served me bread with a delicious oil and olive tapenade dip. That itself was worth eating even without the bread! Speaking of bread, gluten free is available upon request. They also have free in house WiFi. My sandwich and fries came and it was a nice size as well as cooked to order. It was so good and very filling! My waitress attended to all my needs and though tempting was so full I had to decline dessert. The Kaufman Tavern sits on S Main St (AKA Rt 19) right in the heart of the Zelinople business district. There is a free 3 hour general parking lot in the back. I was excited to try Kaufman Tavern since Breakneck Tavern is one of my favorite local spots. They've done a great job with the space-it's huge and well-decorated with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. We asked to be seated outside on the patio and enjoyed our food and drinks. I ordered the Kaufman sour with a half mixed green salad and the mahi entree. I really enjoyed everything. The crispy onion straws and citrus butter really added a lot of flavor to the mahi dish. There were a lot of items on the menu that I wanted to try, so I'll definitely be back. read more

Absolute worst service and brunch service I have ever had in my life. Pretty much sat there for almost an hour and left. Took 20 minutes to get a beer and a Bloody Mary when we were the only ones at the bar. My wife was given a Bloody Mary that sat around for 15 minutes getting warm and wasn't even made how she asked. When a group say next to us, they ordered Bloody Mary's and he did the same thing. Bartender was playing favorites to people they knew sitting in the bar and you could only order food if you begged him to come and take an order. We met friends here for dinner on a Friday evening. We made a reservation for 6pm and were seated in the front room that only had 5 high top tables in it which was nice. There was a large mural on one wall a fireplace/mantle on another, setting the mood for the room. This place has such a large menu all the way around! A lot of choices when it comes to appetizers, shareable items, entrees, and even the wine/beer/cocktail list. We began our meal with the Bruschetta. It was pretty tasty with a beautiful presentation. I did wish the bread was a little more firm because I felt it was slightly soft for my liking after a sitting for a few minutes. But the flavors were great. My goal when going to a restaurant has been to order something I would not make at home. I ended up with the House Cut Pork Chop served with mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts. I do not usually gravitate towards pork chops because they are often overcooked an dry. However, there was a lot of seafood items which is not my cup of tea and I eat chicken and salads all the time, so a pork chop it was! And man it did not disappoint! Bone-in, seared to a crisp on the outside with a tender juicy center, and very little fat. The mashed potatoes were velvety and smooth, and tasted fantastic with a bite of the chop and sauce. The brussel sprouts could have been a little more crispy but they were tender and seasoned well. I really enjoyed this dish and am so glad I went with something different! Our waitress was pretty good, taking our orders in a timely manner. There were times that she would disappear for a little while but after walking through the restaurant, it was understandable as it was a lot bigger (and full of people) than I thought. And based on how full it was, I believe that is why it took a little longer to get our food. However, we weren't in a hurry and they did not kick us out when we stayed and talked for awhile after dinner. This restaurant is a middle/higher priced place but the food proved to be worth it. The entrees were not priced that much more than a chain restaurant entree however the quality, presentation, and creativeness of the dishes were above and beyond. The atmosphere was light and fun and I can only imagine it would be moreso if it was at full capacity. I would come back here. Great menu, good service, nice atmosphere, slightly higher priced, but all worth it! read more

First time here. Had high hopes. Wait staff is top notch. Atmosphere is good brings back a lot of memories. Now the food. I was a little bummed. The menu looked good and looking at the prices one would think that it was going to be great. My daughters steak was supposed to be medium but came out rare. She was supposed to have green beans but got asparagus. The asparagus was drenched in oil and that made it soft and squishy. My son had the salmon. He said it was dry and not very tasty. We order the calamari which was amazing. Our dinners were also amazing. The Farm Chicken and Filet were perfectly cooked. To end the night, Bailey suggested the Blonde Brownie, which again, was amazing. The former Kaufman House has finally opened. Last nite, we had dinner at this beautifully renovated restaurant. To experience the decor, we walked thru each tastefully done room. The bar area is warm and relaxing. The servers and bartender were friendly and answered all of our questions. Now to the food; we had the short ribs and pork chop dinners. My wife and I have had dinner several times and brunch once. Our dinners were ok, but I didn't enjoy brunch (my wife did). I got the steak and eggs and I'm not sure what happened in the kitchen. Half of the steak was medium rare to rare, and the other half was medium. The thickness of the steak was consistent so I have no idea how it was cooked so unevenly. Even my wife was baffled. I didn't say anything to the waitress because I was still able to eat my meal. Everything else was good but since the steak is supposed to be the star of the show, it left me disappointed. Overall, I'd definitely recommend going here. I think since it's still new, they have some kinks to work out. read more

Haven't been here in years, way back when it was the Kaufman House. Today the refreshed Kaufman Tavern is a beautiful old building in downtown Zelienople. Parking is on the street. At the entry is a big bar and a majestic staircase. The Tavern has several large rooms for diners or events. The menu has something for everyone and the beer selection is huge. We enjoyed the Mushroom Risotto with side salad, Black Bean Burger with delicious charred Brussel Sprouts. All was so very good. Save room for dessert. First time to this restaurant and it is an amazing place! Wonderful experience. I love the ambience. Full bar, complete menu, unique decor, history to the building, great service. We even went downstairs to see the speakeasy. My husband got a steak and said it wasn't bad and wasn't the best he had ever had - a bit grizzly. However, he ate it.
