My wife and I walked in without a reservation and greeted by Wyland. Wyland was fantastic in finding us a booth in the bar area. We were then greeted by Bailey who was friendly and very attentive. We order the calamari which was amazing. Our dinners were also amazing. The Farm Chicken and Filet were perfectly cooked. To end the night, Bailey suggested the Blonde Brownie, which again, was amazing. Haven't been here in years, way back when it was the Kaufman House. Today the refreshed Kaufman Tavern is a beautiful old building in downtown Zelienople. Parking is on the street. At the entry is a big bar and a majestic staircase. The Tavern has several large rooms for diners or events. The menu has something for everyone and the beer selection is huge. We enjoyed the Mushroom Risotto with side salad, Black Bean Burger with delicious charred Brussel Sprouts. All was so very good. Save room for dessert. The last time I was here, it was still called "The Kaufman House," and that was well over twenty years ago. I had heard about the remodeling and new management some time ago, and have been looking forward to coming back, and today we were able to finally visit for lunch. First of all, the renovation is beautiful. I really enjoyed the visuals of the place, but unfortunately, the loud classic rock music really but a damper on the ambience. The music really wasn't a good fit with the decor in my opinion (I have nothing against classical rock, but a different type (and not as loud) music choice would have been preferred). Secondly, we found the food to be pretty good. My wife enjoyed her Gerber Farm Chicken, which was served over Smoked Corn & Bacon Risotto, and I enjoyed my "Whaler" Fish Sandwich, but if I was to order it again, I would ask for the slaw to be served on the side instead of ON the sandwich. It really made the bottom bun too soggy, and it fell apart while I was trying to eat it, but otherwise, it was quite a large and tasty piece of fish. Also, the French Fries could have been better cooked. Sadly, we had no room for dessert, but the selections sounded impressive (especially the Gluten-Free Chocolate Torte). The Kaufman Tavern is a great place to eat. It is an historical building. We had the fried calamari as an appetizer and they were very scrumptious and delicious. I had the biggest fish sandwich I ever had for a long time and it was delicious and the batter was crunchy and good on a delicious nice roll. First time to this restaurant and it is an amazing place! Wonderful experience. I love the ambience. Full bar, complete menu, unique decor, history to the building, great service. We even went downstairs to see the speakeasy. My husband got a steak and said it wasn't bad and wasn't the best he had ever had - a bit grizzly. However, he ate it. With our kids at Grandma's house for the night, we had a date night at Kaufman Tavern that was spectacular! This was our first visit since the remodel was completed, so this trip was long overdue. The restaurant has a beautiful setting that was very comfortable while keeping in touch with the rich history. We had excellent drinks to get started followed by amazing food. We have a gluten allergy that was able to be easily accommodated. Our server was Carrie and she was incredible: when we come back we plan to specifically request to be seated in her area. We ate there for the first time since they opened with another couple. it was a total failure on the part of the restaurant to make us feel welcome or serve us quality got food. Our reservations were for 5pm for four. We waited and waited for drinks and especially water. Our waiter at first seemed to be very helpful but that quickly stopped. In fact we ordered appetizers for the table and she kept insisting we put our entrees in as well. We major mistake, we did. We were not even one half done and just got our drinks and were chatting when here comes all the entrees out. Even though she clearly saw this she made no apology nor did she help us move the apps over so we could make room. It was a real cluster xxxx. Well my wife's entree was ice cold and I mean ice cold, but the waitress was nowhere around. She never came back to find out if we wanted another drink. Next time she appeared we were still talking and I was still eating and yep, she took everyone's plate including mine and off she went. Believe it or not we all just laughed about it, what the heck else could you do. When she returned she asked about dessert but we said no but ordered another drink. She brought them over and dropped off the bill like ok drink your drink and get the heck out. She never asked about my wife barely touching her entre. There was not a manager around nor did anyone approach our table. With that we decided to drink up and leave since this place is the worst. It was extremely busy so I dont know if we just had a very very bad waitress or this is normal. In any event we will not be back. Don't know if the ownership monitors Yelp. Visited with my mom to celebrate her birthday for an early dinner on a Tuesday. The renovation was done very well. The place is very beautiful. We sat at a bar side table. The service was great! The baked Brie was excellent but the Porkchop was out of this world! Mom questioned me ordering the chop but was jealous when she tried a bite. Her Mahi was also very tasty! 3rd try! We ordered takeout on a Saturday night. So we've done lunch, brunch and dinner takeout. The only thing that I can think of is the cooks at this place have to be really bad. In our order was two burgers ordered at medium temperature. Patties waaaay too big and just raw beef. I wouldn't mind if the beef tasted good, but it was just a huge mouthful of yucky, irony, not cooked beef. We are not picky temp people. I swear. This was gross. Stop letting those super vinegar pickles touch the bread. Whatever is in them turns the bread to mush instantly. The bottom of my burger was just a mushy mess and this happens with every sandwich with pickles (take out and dine in). We've tried them all pretty much. Patty too big to taste anything else on the burger anyways. Pork might as well have not been there. The wings and mixed green salad were fine. The woman who took our order was very friendly. They did a fine job with the renovation, space looks great inside. We got takeout, all of that was handled well with the proper covid precautions in place. However, the food was a big disappointment. Nothing we ordered was above a "meh". Risotto was over cooked and completely missing any salt / seasoning. Lobster was overpowered by onion + celery so it tasted more like tuna salad. Steak was over cooked. Poutine was obviously not made by someone who has had real Canadian poutine, soggy oily fries does not a poutine make. We will try again, maybe some other menu items will be more polished but based on the missteps we saw tonight and other reviews I've read -- I feel like there's some fundamental issues going on in the kitchen. I hope they get their act together because we were very disappointed and compared to the other options on main st, they have a long way to go. read more

So excited to try the new Kaufman House, I mean tavern. Was concerned to go too soon after opening. Went on a Monday night and had a wonderful experience. Friendly staff and good food. Very close to Breakneck Tavern in menu/quality. Wish they had some of Breakneck's signature drinks. Hostess told us to check out the mural in the parlor before we left and ended up talking to the artist as he was still touching up the painting. Thought about old memories I had in the original restaurant. Can't wait to make more new memories in this beautifully update new restaurant. So far off to a good start. read more

Zelienople is the cutest downtown ever. If you're not from the area, come early and shop the small businesses. This was our first time since the restaurant was renovated and revamped. We had heard mixed reviews but we were very very happy with our meals and service tonight. My spiced rum and ginger ale was on the weak side even though I ordered a double - just a typical bar drink. I enjoyed a cup of mushroom and onion soup and a small plate of the barbecue chicken flatbread. Two of us shared the roasted shareable cauliflower app and really enjoyed it. Two of our young adult guests had burgers and ate every bite including one with a gluten free bun. The fish sandwich was a typical version of a big fried fish sandwich, nothing remarkable but good. My husband had a beer and the mahi mahi. He loved the salad and the fish. He's a microbrew lover and said the beer was just ok. For 5 people, everything came to $108. We'll def be back. If anything, we think it's a little pricey for our area but not too bad. The bar looks like a fun place to spend the evening so we might give that a try. read more

I had dinner here a few days ago, weekend so they were busy. Love the renovation that they've done. They obviously put a lot of time, effort and money into this place. Food was great, good service, a little pricey but that's ok given all the money it must have cost to restore it. My only complaint is that it's noisy. Difficult to have a conversation when the room is full. They need to spend a little more to put in sound dampening ceiling, wall treatments, something to tone down the noise read more

Went to Kaufman with family on a Monday at around 4pm. Very few people in the place. Service was soooooo slow. Our waitress was either new, or just inept. The food (once we actually got it), was exceptional. I'd recommend their scallops. This is the second or third time I've experienced slow service at KH. I'd understand it better if it were a Friday night at 7, but this was 4 on a Monday. We never got out of there until nearly 6:30. In fact, we had to grab another server to get us our bill.
