Main reason I'm giving this place 2 stars is because the California roll had a chemical/ cleaner taste. Just for a second I taste it at the beginning and the rest of the bite it tastes normal so it's off putting and I don't want to be consuming chemicals but I spent $47 here so I tried to eat it but can't finish it. The other rolls did not have a chemical/ cleaner taste thankfully, but I have had better rolls elsewhere. The eel avocado CRUNCH roll had no crunch at all. The salmon skin roll was just okay, I've had better somewhere else. The salad was sad and came with very little dressing. Service was fine. I always like to try a new sushi spot to add to my go to list so I had to hit up Kawa. I really enjoyed the yellowtail collar it was seasoned well with a hint of curry which was interesting. The rest of the sushi was ok. Prices are pretty inline with sushi fare. I liked the interior dining room, quaint, cute and makes you feel like you may be in Japan. This is our go-to for sushi and Japanese takeout although you can eat there too. The food is easy to order on their website, and they send you a text when it's ready. They also always double check the order to make sure everything is in the bag. My daughter and I love their sushi, and my husband prefers the Kawa Bento Box which comes with a choice of protein, sauce, an appetizer, rice, and miso soup or salad. Reliably good! read more

Maybe an option that costs more but has some things like eel and maybe even another special roll or two cut up without having to special order might be nice. Salad and dressing were on-point. Shumai was what I could get at the grocery store from frozen as it was part of the bento box. Staff was super friendly and made me feel welcome to dine in another time if I could. Acceptable. Ordered online. Slightly tricky ordering on website with a phone. Some difficulty navigating. Text very small and unreadable. Can't click and manipulate screen easily. Can not make initial screen text and images larger. At bottom left, you can click 'pick up with Kawa.' Options for third party delivery vendors like GRUBHUB, you see on the opposite side, at the bottom left of the screen. You can also click on the screen and get to another screen, which has 'Online Order' at the top of the page, but it might take you a while recognizing it Clicking it then takes you to the default lunch menu. It lists lunch items like Ramen and Lunch Special Rolls, but on weekends the lunch special (2 or 3 rolls at a reduced price) is not available; you have to order each roll at a separate charge. At the top, you see 'Click to switch Menu,' but clicking on it doesn't work well. Instead you have to click on the actual words 'Lunch Menu.' I think. This gives you the second option of 'ALL DAY MENU,' which you can then click on instead. Sounds confusing doesnt it? This took me a long time to figure out. I kept clicking and clicking and nothing happened. Maybe I am just an idiot. Hopefully these instructions will save you 5 minutes of frustration. I almost gave up. Order was ready relatively quickly, and I received notice by text. The restauraunt is in a small area off a busy two way road amidst several other stores with standard parking spaces shared by all the businesses. Pickup was easy. Sushi was standard fare and acceptable. Neatly arranged, tasty enough. Shrimp tempura sushi was particularly good. Generous with the ginger slices. Came also with the standard soy sauce and wasabi too. Nonstandard were the chopsticks. But there was something about the morphology. I had a hard time using them as it was difficult to get an easy pincer grip. Again, maybe I am just a chopstick idiot. Kawa Japanese Cuisine is nice Japanese restaurant that is suitable for a casual sushi experience. I came here on a Saturday night, and it wasn't too busy. I made reservations just in case, but it wasn't really needed. The staff were attentive and nice, seating us quickly. The quality of the sushi is decent, as I tried it through their chirashi bowl. It was relatively fresh, though I wouldn't say it's as flavorful as a higher end sushi restaurant. The price was pretty comparable to other Japanese restaurants outside of Philly, but the location is a lot more convenient, as you don't have to deal with parking like you would in the city. The one thing I didn't like was the water sound that the sound system makes. I believe they're trying to emulate relaxing waterfall sounds, but instead it sounded like a heavy rainstorm. We actually looked outside to see if it was indeed raining hard (and it wasn't). read more

*3.5 stars* I usually stick to familiar restaurants when I order take-out during the week, but I wanted to try out Kawa to see if they lived up to the hype. My order was ready promptly, in less than the estimated time so that was a good start. Prices are reasonable too. I ordered the steamed pork gyoza, sweet potato roll, yellowtail scallion roll, and dynamite roll. The pork gyoza was a bit tough and didn't have the best texture. How it was prepared actually reminded me of the frozen dumplings I usually buy at H-Mart. I'd probably skip this next time. How I critique sushi is by the freshness of the fish - and the yellowtail was pretty decent. I wish I ordered more raw fish today because the special cooked roll was rather disappointing. Dynamite roll didn't have the crunch I was expecting from a deep fried, tempura-style roll. It was soggy and I can still taste the flour from the tempura batter. I wish there was more salmon in the roll as the cream cheese was really overpowering everything else. The sweet potato roll is just what I was expecting - still, not a great crunch but better than the Dynamite Roll. My favorite rolls overall were the yellowtail scallion and sweet potato roll. Overall, I think I'll have to go back to order more nigiri and try out other appetizers. I can see this place as being a safe choice for take-out around DelCo, but I think I'd rather make the drive to Philly to get sushi that meets my expectations. read more

I was very impressed with Kawa's customer service. I spoke to the man on the phone about peanut allergy concerns and he reassured me that they could be sure there was no cross contamination as long as I left a note about it on my online order. Once we picked it up too, he said that they were sure to not leave anything even remotely resembling something that could've come in contact with a nut on the plate. (I did miss having ginger with my sushi though lol.) Their system for COVID measures was great and interesting too -- with a mic that you speak into when you pick up your order so there's no contact whatsoever. They had the entire order ready perfectly on time for pickup and my favorite part was how the spicy mayo and eel sauce complimented the sushi (it's a little bit extra, but well worth it!). It was fresh, thus smooth on the palate and clean in flavor. There was a healthy variety of fish. The special comes with 5 pieces of sushi and one tuna roll. The rice was properly executed: sticky, soft, and firm enough. The sushi pieces were Yellowfin Tuna, Salmon, Hamachi with Jalapeño, and two white fish (Snapper maybe?).
