I started frequenting Sushi Land when Jay first opened the place years ago, while I was attending Villanova (2005-2009 range). Back then, he would host all-you-can-eat sushi nights every once in a while and hang pictures of his college customers on the wall near the entrance. It was always an awesome experience back then and it still is today. Fast forward to 2025 and the Lion King roll is still my favorite sushi roll ever. I worked temporarily in Conshohocken and used a food delivery app to order from this place. Decided to get the "lion king" and a couple more rolls. I have to confess I was initially confused by the lion king's appearance due to being a hot "baked" roll - I had completely missed that part but was down to try it. This roll is one of the best and most unique flavors I've ever had. Even to this day, I still remember the taste and wish I could go back to order it again. Sushi land, or for me, Teriyaki land, as I do not do seafood willingly, has a solid teriyaki dish. This is one of my rotating teriyaki places in the area. I don't have a regular place near home as none of my local places have ginger dressing that floats my boat. All of them do a good Teriyaki tho. The dressing here is actually my least favorite, which makes sense because it isn't even ginger dressing, I'm not sure what it is just that I don't like it on my salad. I'm sure YMMV. The chicken is always tender and juicy. I do wish it was served on more vegetables like onions\snap peas vs a bed of lettuce, but it is well packaged to go with a nice portion of rice\salad and chicken of course. Suuuuuuper solid! If you're near on the main line I would definitely recommend swinging by to grab some sushi and enjoying it in a park. One of the only places around that offers Hwe Dup Bap which is easily one of my favorite Korean dishes. The dressing for the salad was ON POINT! I would buy bottles of it if I could. Maybe I can. The rice was cooked perfectly. The rolls were fun! I tried a fermented plum and mint roll, and that was surprisingly delicious. I didn't really know what to expect but it was great. I would absolutely recommend the Bryn Mawr roll and the Halloween roll! I also got miso soup, a side salad and some fried calamari. One of our favorite places in Bryn Mawr. The food was absolutely spectacular and our server was absolutely delightful. they had something new on the menu and the enthusiasm of our server convinced us to try it and she was absolutely spot on! We also got the Bryn Mawr roll, because we were there to drop our youngest off at Bryn Mawr for freshman year. We ended up ordering two rounds of rolls and man do I wish I had room for more because they were ALL fantastic, but I am still drooling over that Bryn Mawr roll. This is my favorite place to get sushi in Bryn Mawr! I've been coming here for so many years, and I always love it! The service is fast and friendly. It's BYOB so we usually bring some wine. I usually get an eel avocado roll, and I like the dragon roll, rainbow roll, and lion king roll. We also often get bento boxes. This time, they were having a summer special for $1 per piece of salmon nigiri, so we got a few orders of those and the salmon tasted amazing! I want to go back again soon just for that special. It's a clean, modest-sized venue that can handle about 40 diners. The decor is simple and appropriately Japanese-themed. I went for the Villanova roll ($8.50), made of spicy tuna, crunch, unagi, and tobiko goodness, and the Cliff House roll ($9.50), with spicy crabmeat, shrimp tempura, salmon, avocado, and tobiko. Both rolls were pleasantly fresh, with a crispy consistency that was fun to bite into, and I loved their tangy, mildly spicy flavors. Sushi Land is a nice little sushi place on the main line. The space is quaint and the staff is friendly. My friend and I came back to the area to visit the college we graduated from and had to go back to Sushiland for nostalgia sake. We split ika ring (fried squid) and chicken tempura appetizers. The tempura batter is very light, my friend thought it needed more seasoning but I liked the simplicity of the dishes. My friend got a bento box with goyza which she thought was delicious and a California roll with cream cheese added (per her request). I ordered the Eagle Roll which was honestly the reason why we came back after all these years. Its a very simple roll - a California roll with salmon on top and lemon slices. So simple but so good! I've yet to see it on any other menu at a sushi restaurant. I definitely recommend it. The only downside was that the sushi rolls were made way before the appetizers were ready so they were sitting at the sushi making station waiting for us to be ready for them. I also love that they have plenty of options for vegetarian rolls Incase you don't want the raw fish. This visit in particular I was disappointed with how long the food took the come out. The sushi we ordered did not need to be cooked and the restaurant was not crowded but it still took a little over 20 minutes to get our food. I just got off work today and I was craving sushi, I have a regular place I go to that has amazing fresh sushi that is such of quality but I'm so disheartened from this sushi place. One thing I've learned since returning to the Main Line is that good reasonably priced sushi restaurants and BYOBs are two things that can be fairly hard to come by. But fortunately I've found that Sushi Land provides an equal amount of both and does it well. Bust there's also a huge selection of sushi & sashimi dishes, and a number of noodle dishes to satisfy those weirded out by sushi. What this place puts out is among the better rolls I've had in the area. Fish freshness was on point. I'd come back here happily and recommend it to anyone. I was mildly disappointed in one thing. I saw a three roll special for $12.95 listed, but I found out that one of the rolls was a simple cucumber roll. The sushi places I frequent most often, farther up the main line in Paoli and Frazer, tend to offer three fish maki rolls in their specials for a similar price. Went here on a Friday night with friends and it was packed, but we called about ten minutes ahead of time, and they managed to save us a table for 6. It's BYOB, and they even brought us some ice to cool our wine. The service was incredibly fast and our waiter was really understanding when some of us needed more time to look at the menu. I wasn't that hungry and just got a yellowtail scallion roll, but it was so good and I shared some pork gyoza with my table and that was a solid choice as well. The actually boxes are huge chunky boxes that have normal size portions that look tiny in these plates. The salad was just iceberg lettuce and a couple of slivers of cucumber saturated with a sesame/mayo type dressing that was very tasty. Salad could be better if it had more than iceberg lettuce and cucumber. How about adding a bit of cabbage/carrot/scallion? I ordered teriyaki shrimp & California roll. The teriyaki shrimp had good flavor BUT how about cleaning the shrimp? It's gross to see that dirty vein in a shrimp. The California roll was - eh - had better at the local grocery store. Husband had the sashimi - tuna & salmon. He loved the tuna but didn't like the way the salmon tasted and only had a bite. He had the chicken teriyaki and agreed it had good flavor. One thing we both noticed was that the seafood looked good - seemed fresh - it was kind of warm. The waitress was very attentive and sweet. There's no waiting area, so we hung outside for about 15 minutes. This BYOB doesn't take reservations on Fridays, so keep that in mind. The sushi is good and the prices are reasonable for the area. They don't serve sashimi as cold as a lot of restaurants, but I'm told this way in more traditional (eh, I still like it colder). If you get an appetizer, go for the dumplings. I have had their Sake Maki, Tekka Maki, Halloween Roll, and their tempura shrimp. The tempura is fine, but this is a sushi restaurant. Their rolls are not made very well. The rolls are 80% rice with a very small amount of filling. Not only this, but upon my second visit, the tekka nigiri I had a gray hue instead of a dark red. That is not a good sign for sushi. I have been burned a few times because they're closed on Mondays and have weird hours occasionally so be warned on that end. I crave the Pink Lady Roll (Shrimp Tempura, Kani, Cucumber, Tobiko with house special sauce) Kani is the crab stick and they put it on top of this roll with a yummy spicy mayonnaise and sweet house sauce that is fabulous. This is a popular sushi spot in Bryn Mawr for the locals and college kids from Bryn Mawr and Villa Nova. It's good but not great. If this was downtown it would not be so popular. It is small and feels local. It's a little messy with a lot of clutter laying around. The service is good, not great. The offerings seem pretty standard. The sushi is not as pretty or well made as other spots in the city. The fish seems fairly fresh. I also have had the udon here and it lacks a lot of seafood and noodles. I noticed that one of the Sushi chefs kept putting his fingers next to his mouth. At first, it didn't register, but then I did a double take. Sushi chefs usually have a sponge to keep their fingers wet, but this guy was actually licking his fingers! I told my girlfriend that "we needed to leave now!" We didn't touch 3/4 of our sushi. Pretty good sushi for the suburbs, and it's BYOB. My girlfriend and I came here on weekend evening. We were seated very quickly, and the wait staff was fairly attentive from the door. The rolls are typical and tasty-- good spider roll. They do have an inventive bay scallop roll (warm, saucy, and pretty good) that I would get again. They also serve barley tea (nice change from green or jasmine tea). The space is fairly large, clean, well kept. The biggest draw back is that it's a hub for college students (I'm a young working professional), and they crowd the place, are sometimes loud, and drink boxed wine by the Yahtzee shaker. Maybe I'm spoiled by the very good sushi places in Center City, or maybe I just wasn't into the restaurant the day I visited. Either way, it's a good spot for the suburbs. I recommend the edamame (perfectly salted), miso soup, and chicken teriyaki. The menu is cheap, and my friends say it's the best and most affordable sushi around. Yes, this is the sushi spot I run to when I get a hankering. It's close, good, and affordable. It's a comfortable little byob in the heart of Bryn Mawr. Jae, a Korean Californian transplant mans the sushi bar. I've mostly had the sushi here, so I can't say much about the non-sushi offerings. I had the agedashi tofu and can't recommend it. Also, their house salad dressing is a bit weird... it's nutty and not gingery. I'm not a fan. I am a fan of their rolls... they have a pretty large variety and also have specials. I am a huge fan of the villanova roll and the mexican roll. They also have all-you-can-eat sushi sometimes, if you're into that sort of thing. I would give this place 5 stars but the service can be spotty at times. And they play some terrible korean pop music. This place is also overrun by Villanova, Haverford, and Bryn Mawr students.
