A group of six of us ranging in age from 3-74 with various paddling experience, Josh, handled us with skill and knowledge of the area. Nehalem Bay is an easy entry level with enough wildlife to keep the "oohs" a coming. Harbor Seals, Bald Eagles, Cranes, and several other birds (I can't remember their names-oops) What a great way to spend a morning. In fact, it was the highlight of the entire trip. We all agreed we should've booked more trips for the week. Guess we'll just have to visit again. Not that Josh isn't absolutely charming all on his own, but bringing his wiener dog along, made us all have hearts in our eyes. Great Job in helping us create some fantastic memories. read more

5 of us decided to try Kayak Tillamook on the 4th of July for the afternoon paddle on the Miami River. One came all the way from Vancouver Washington and another all the way from Happy Valley just to do this paddle; ( a 2 hour drive each way) the other 3 were camping nearby. What I was expecting and what I got were definitely two different things. First, I would expect for the price of the tour not to have to carry the boats to and from the water. Second, We paid $75.00 each to paddle only 1.5 hours...that really expensive! Third, we were expecting a "tour" for us meaning getting some history and information about the the area we were paddling ... nope none of that! Forth, we were experienced paddlers so we knew what boats worked best for us, however getting that thought across to our guide was difficult.(for instance, I have a bad back, two artificial knees and some other issues. I needed a boat with a high back seat to ease the back strain. She wanted to put me in a wide boat with a low seat back.) Additionally she wanted to wait till everyone was there to assign us boats (seems ridiculous!) Once on the water the 5 of us headed to the river leaving the remaining 3 and the guide behind. It was never a conscience choice, we were just paddling! Once in the river we slowed down and waited for the rest to catch up and paddled up the river together. The river was beautiful; we all really enjoyed that part of the trip. On the return trip rather than heading back down the river into the cove and out into the bay the guide had us paddle to the mouth of the river and directly into the bay. (skipping the cove) The tide was coming in and the wind was blowing so it was not ideal weather and paddling conditions; not bad, just not ideal. In my estimation it would have been better to travel through the cove and into the bay than travel a further distance in the bay. We all made it back to the put-in with no injuries or flips...always a good thing! I would add one other thing about the safety talk...we were told to hold onto the boat or go to shore if we fell out or flipped ...let the paddle go if necessary. My issue with that was if you flipped the boat and were able to get back in, but you let your paddle go you have no way to maneuver the boat so the current would take you where ever it was flowing. I don't know the answer here it just seemed a bit odd to me, I would only let go of my paddle if I was drowning and it was hindering me. Lastly let me say the trip was NOT all bad, just not as good as it could have been. We were a Meetup group doing the tour; I am not sure I would schedule another tour with this company. I expect a little more value for my dollar. read more

Thoroughly enjoyed our kayak tour of Garibaldi and Three Graces. Josh, our guide, was awesome - very knowledgable, thoughtful and patient. The tour was everything advertised - a nice kayak trip through the harbor passing through the Coast Guard Station, several piers and our to Three Graces rock formations where were full of sea life - sea anemone, star fish, jelly fish, and a wide variety of gulls, pelicans and other birds. Josh added his own personal stories to each part of the kayak trip and was interesting to talk with in general. The trip was 2 hours as described. We have gone on perhaps 7 trips with Kayak Tillamook. Our latest was on Netarts Bay. The guides are always helpful and help us learn new things about the sights and critters we are seeing. One of my favorite things about KT is that the website describes the trips and their difficulty level. Netarts Bay is an easy one, but really beautiful and serene. Miami Cove and River involved pretty exciting paddling through the waves of Garibaldi Bay. The team is good at timing the trips to take advantage of tides and avoid having to fight the tides. We really trust them to both keep us safe and show us a great time. read more

My husband and I went on the Cape Meares Lake tour with Marcus in May 2021 and had an amazing time! Marcus was so helpful in finding a kayak trip that would be comfortable and safe for me while being 34 weeks pregnant and it was very easy to schedule. The lake was beautiful and Marcus offered lots of information about the history of the area and the wildlife throughout the tour. He was also just generally nice and fun to be around. The Cape Meares Lake tour is very mellow and a great option for beginners, kids, or folks that want to just have a relaxing few hours on the water. I was part of the May 27th 10 AM group, kayaking in Garibaldi Harbor, four novices and wonderful guide, Paul. In two hours there were large shifts from sunny, to gusty showers, nearing low tide. Conditions were excellent for learning basics among moored fishing boats, and then more bravely venturing to more-open water, staying clear of motor traffic. This tour is near enough to the Bar, and currents to open ocean, that adventure must be guided. In decent conditions, there was opportunity to cluster for discussion including technique, safety and harbor history. In selected dead calm of Miami Cove, Paul did in-water demonstration of rollover recovery, less any rollover. I'll want to take instruction for that practice, in August. The experience included wonderful stay at Garibaldi House. Garibaldi House is a unique hotel with elements of a B & B. Families or other groups will find it gongenial for a few days of all the activities around Tillamook and further up and down the coast. It's an idea for my high school reunion events. read more

I've been on two kayak tours with this company - did one in the winter and one in the summer. The summer tour came first; there were about 6 of us in the group, including myself and a friend who was a first-time kayaker; the guide's safety lesson that began the tour put her at ease, and she had no problems whatsoever during the whole trip. Saw a blue heron, a jellyfish, and even had an adorable seal following us around! As for the winter tour - we saw a HERD of elk. As in, like, FIFTY. They were all staring at us and then all turned and ran at the same time - it was pretty awesome. Yes, it was drizzly, but felt great to just be out on the water - and I couldn't really complain when there were mugs of hot apple cider waiting for us. Seriously, join a tour. Anytime of the year. Even if you go hiking all the time, getting on the water will give you a different perspective and you'll get to see things you'd never otherwise see. It was just my mom and I and Josh was an excellent guide, he was so nice to talk to, helped us acclimate to those kayaks because we have sit on top ones, he knew so much about the area: animals, environment, weather, history, etc. It was such a pleasure. It was a beautiful overcast day, we saw amazing flora, we saw an incredible beaver dam which Josh informed us was around 40 years old! Unbelievable! Four of us booked a fantastic private tour with Kayak Tillamook last week, on Lake Meares. None of us had paddled before, and one of us was 10 years old, but our guide Josh was patient and a great instructor, happy to go at our pace. One of our party capsized, and Josh was able to get him to shore, in dry clothes, and back in the boat. When two paddlers had had enough, he took them to shore and took the rest of us back out. The kayaks are cozy -- it was a windy, gray morning, but once you're seated under the splash skirt and wearing a life-jacket, you really stay pretty toasty. Three of us found paddling pretty easy, and the technique and safety tutorial was just right -- everything we needed, but not endlessly standing on the shore cutting into the paddle time. We got to glide among beautiful blooming waterlilies, got pretty close to a perching bald eagle, and paddled around a huge beaver lodge. Josh was knowledgeable about the wildlife and history of the lake, gave my daughter a tow when we had to fight the wind on one stretch, and even arranged a water fight on the way back to shore. The whole experience was magical (well, not so much the tipping-over part ...) and we all want to go again. If you have novices or kids, or just want to be with a smaller group for your experience, the extra $10 per person for a private tour is totally worth it. read more

It is amazing to me how many waterways Kayak Tillamook leads tours on! It's so hard to choose which one because they all have their unique aspects. So, since I'm a curious person, I've been on a few tours with them (twice on Meares Lake) and I really love how they plan the tour to your needs. The first time I went out I needed some instruction on paddling technique (do I need to put emphasis on that??) and needed to know that they were right there in case I fell in (which was kind of a silly fear I realized later), but by the third time I went out I felt pretty comfortable and they were more hands-off so I could explore and not feel like I had an escort at all times. Their knowledge of the area and wildlife was really nice too. I also felt very safe, as they show and explain the safety gear that they bring on each trip. Personally, I don't have space at home for a kayak, and don't go often enough to warrant getting one anyway, but when I do go out it is worth the $65 to have Kayak Tillamook set everything up, plan the trip and haul the gear! Thanks guys! They also bring a snack, which is great for me because I get low-blood sugar. I try to bring my own water container, but if I forget it they will also provide me with one. I'm really looking forward to an apple cider tour this fall or winter! Yay! (Oh, and Yelp wants to know if this is good for kids... I think that for kids ten and up it would be okay. They have two tandem boats, but be prepared to do more of the work. I have an eleven-year-old and his first time out I found myself doing most of the paddling.) read more

I just did the kayak tour for Garibaldi Bat yesterday with Kayak Tillamook and was thrilled with the experience. I plan to do it again the next time I am in Oregon. The guide was fabulous -- friendly, professional, and informed. Plus he ensured everyone in the group was comfortable (and safe) and remained comfortable (and safe) throughout the trip. Added to that, the trip actually went a wee bit longer even than it was scheduled for (you actually get the hours you pay for) and the equipment was in great working order. The perfect way to explore Garibaldi Bay and Harbor! Our group of four had a blast touring the bay and Miami River with Jodi. We're amateur kayakers, but she taught us paddling techniques and safety tips, and was exceedingly competent. She adeptly navigated the changing tide, and shared fascinating stories about the area. My husband, son and I just went out on the Lake Meares Apple Cider tour over Spring Break and it was great! The rain held off, our guide Paul was knowledgeable about the area, very experienced and a good teacher for those of us beginners that needed instructions. We did not see an animals unfortunately but we learned a lot about the Lost City and it was just great to get out on the water! This was such a great experience! I went with my boyfriend and his family as they were visiting from the east coast last weekend. Our kayak guide, Ben, was great, too! He was very helpful for the beginners of the group. He explained everything very carefully and patiently. He made sure everyone felt comfortable in a little cove area before going off down the river. Once we were able to make it out from the shore it was incredible! Very little can beat the views of Oregon. I really enjoyed that you could stray a little away from the group to explore the area we were kayaking around. We were in the kayaks for about two hours total. Definitely felt sore two days after- a great way to workout without really trying! It was a little pricey, but that was expected as we requested a private tour for 4 people. I definitely recommend this to anyone visiting the Tillamook/Portland area. If you have time afterward, make a pit stop at the Tillamook Cheese factory for lots of delicious treats! read more
