Double lava tube! Harry was very knowledgeable about how the lava tubes were formed, and how a double lava tube like this one came to be.

This amazing tour was the best way to start our Hawaii trip! Harry is incredibly knowledgeable about the lava tubes and Hawaii in general. He's also careful to help protect the wildlife and the condition of the cave. We did the "Pit Room" tour. Definitely wear a sweatshirt and gym shoes. You will likely get dripped on. The terrain was rough but manageable for a first time cave explorer. We took a wrong turn finding the tour site, but Harry came out to meet us. We highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Hawaii who's interested in the history and natural history of the island!

My boyfriend and I did the maze tour which took about 5 hours. We were the only ones one the tour. It was an amazing tour with a lot more different and fascinating formations than you would ever expect lava could form. Our guide Harry, the one man operator of this place, was very knowledgeable and could tell you a lot about each formation. There was one single rope rappel, one double rope rappel, one single rope to ascend, and a lot of crawling. Since it was raining outside the tubes were very wet and we came out soaked. He offers other non techinical tours that are shorter with just as many formations that we did not go on but would be a good option for people with less time or for people who don't want to bring a harness for a single tour. Overall I was very happy with this unique experience.

Keep in mind there is no snorkeling on this excursion and the area around the Hilton is not safe or appropriate for snorkeling. I am writing the review solely on the lava field excursion part. My wife was very dissapointed that there was no snorkeling as we purchased new snorkeling equipment. Roxy was our tour guide and was probably the most knowledgeable and professional tour guide we have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. Roxy was knowledgeable in the history of volcanoes on Hilo and elsewhere, horticulture, bird species, animals, Hawaiian culture, tourist attractions, history of the Hawaiian Islands, tribes and Capt. Cook, beaches, teachings, burial practices and so much more. Roxy told stories of the early days in Hawaii and how it evolved. Also as a noted her driving and safety practices were impeccable. If you are planning to come to Hilo you must make it a point to reach out to Roxy. We spent approximately 8 hours on the tour and it was so enriching although the lack of snorkeling was a dissapointment . Highly recommended Mahalo

Mike was not only an expert in all things chocolate, but he is easy to understand, he takes time to teach you and answer any questions and he has a great personality! It was pouring down rain the day we went, yet the tour was still a great success. We started out at the farm and then concluded down at the shop. You get to taste fresh cacao, nibs, cacao tea and kakao brew - of course at the shop are the full chocolate bars. Mike clearly loves what he does and enjoys sharing that love with his customers. The only down side is that after listening to Mike you will be ruined forever on eating any other general retail chocolate. So long Hershey and friends!

This tour is meant to expand your knowledge and change your perspective on how you think about, taste, and experience chocolate. At the end of the farm tour, you drive down to the gift shop (about a 3 min drive from the farm) to make any potential purchases as well as taste even more chocolate! What an amazing and unique experience in Honaka'a and 100% recommend adding this tour to your Big Island itinerary. P.S. my favorite chocolate bar is the barrel aged bourbon bar!! Notes of dark cherry with a bourbon finish :)

Then we recognized where we ended up. The Jagger Museum is gone. Found out later at the temporary visitor center that the 2018 eruption shook so hard the museum collapsed. It was built from wood. Now there's only an outline of where it once stood. The restrooms withstood the eruption as it's built from rock. We missed the current eruption by several hours on May 30 last Saturday. The ranger said it was imminent. We were in the park around 1pm. Kilauea erupted around 6:30pm lasting nine hours.
