Absolutely a must-visit, on the Big Island!! The people at the store were super friendly and very quick to hand out samples of coffee, Mac nuts, and their other treats. I loved their dark roast coffee, nice and strong but still smooth. And the macadamia nuts...honestly, I didn't think their flavor could be improved on; but wow, the flavored varieties!! They still taste like Mac nuts, but with yummy flavor accents like vanilla or garlic. Yum! We bought all our gifts for the folks back home at Paradise Meadows, b/c they ship free with $125+ purchase. Finally, as someone who volunteers at an exotic bird rescue/sanctuary back home, I appreciate that they gave several parrots a good, permanent home. Really enjoyed our visit!

    Really knowledgeable and friendly staff.

On our way back from the furthest southern point in the United States (on the Big Island), we stopped at Paradise Meadows for some Macadamia nuts. We found the staff were more than willing to offer samples. We walked out with 4 different varieties of Macadamia nuts. All delicious. The owners farm most of their properties with coffee & Macadamia nuts.. We sampled their coffee, and it was SO good, we took some back for tomorrow morning's breakfast.

It was paradise here. We just drove by and happened to see a sign so we stopped by. And I glad we did because we got to sample so many chocolates and nuts. Ended up with a sugar smrush because of it. We also got to sample the smoothie before we bought it. Everyone was so friendly! Onsite was a pizza spot and tables to sit at. There were animals to view too as you wait for the pizza to be cooked. Ended the experience with $6 small bags of chocolate and $7 smoothie. Would come back to.

STEPH JUDGEMENT: Nice stop for a bathroom break, samples, and more! We were on our way to Ka Lae (South Point) and were starting to feel the need for a break when we happened to see their sign along the road. It turned out to be a very nice stop--definitely more than just a restroom break. We sampled their coffee and various macadamia nut/chocolate combos (bought some nuts), walked the pleasant grounds and viewed their flora and fauna, and of course, made use of their facilities, taking care not to let their house cats out (did not actually see any cats, darn). They also had a lot of art in the main house where the bathrooms were. A lot more to see than we were expecting, with a pleasant, courteous staff--worth the stop.

This a place you have to visit! As we were driving along Hawaii belt road 11 you will find it follow the signs. The people are so friendly You can self tour or pay for a guided tour, we took the map and walked around You can see fish, birds a pig, walk through the herb stroll. I didn't go in the building but they had art. I had free samples of coffee so good No creamer needed! Then we got to taste all different honey's (I bought the creamy honey) the coffee and the coconut were good too The Macadamia Nuts were delicious so many different flavors Then you have to try the cookies

A must stop if you're headed to south point. Super friendly staff provided samples of pretty much everything they sold. The Macadamia Nuts were so delicious and perfectly crunchy and the variety of flavors with and w/out chocolate were plentiiful. We bought 3 of the 9oz bags of Macadamia Nuts at $16 each. With three bags bought, you get $5 off. Also available, honey, shortbread, gift packs, and delicious slushies! They can ship if needed. Take a walk around the area when you're done shopping. They have beautiful parrots and a pig walking around.

What an awesome experience! Staff are very helpful and friendly. The have tastings for everything: coffee, chocolate, honey, Mac nuts. No pressure. I think it's great because it lets you taste how good the products are. I love it because I know I will like it before I buy it. It is dangerous because we ended up spending around $175 there... so fair warnings. But I'm happy because I know I will enjoy the goods. Also there is a yard with plenty of live animals to watch while you enjoy your delicious slushy.

I'm so delighted with my experience at Pleasant Meadows. The woman assisting us with our coffee, honey & macadamia nut tasting was a joy! We ended up ordering a shipment of all 3! The scenery is beautiful, lined with coffee, fruit and nut trees. Animals are able to free range outside of their pens, and don't mind the people walking around. Seeing the beginning of the coffee peas in bloom was so fascinating. I would definitely visit again.

Lovely little farm! Reminds me of how I want my farm to be in Missouri. Self guided tour, they provide a little map and view the farm. The staff was amazing and very knowledgeable. You also get the chance to try various items they offer (honey, coffee, and macadamia products). All the different types of macadamia products was mind blowing.

This place is amazing. On your way to the most southern point for the United States? Stop here to grab some coffee and snacks. The staff was very friendly and the grounds were fairly large. They have a mac nut tasting and by the time you've tasted them all, you'll feel like you've eaten a whole bag! They also have coffee tasting which pairs well the the mac nuts. Each mac nut we tasted was flavorful and the chocolates were rich and creamy! The grounds are marked where you can explore which is great for kids. will definitely be back.

They're known for their sweetbread and malasadas, but they also have hot food and ice cream. We shared one of their pork platters. It was pretty good. Pork was super tender! There were 2 portions of pork, which seemed a lot, but I was left wanting more. We also got one guava malasada. This one is just their flavored sweet bread, coated with sugar, no filling. It was so light, fluffy, and delicious! Not heavy or oily. Dare I say these are better than Leonards in Waikiki? I regretted just getting one, because getting in that line again to order more would take too long. Oh that's another thing... Your mindset needs to be on island time because you will wait more than 10 minutes for your food. The place is small, but the property is huge. All dining is outdoor in their patio and two gazebo-like structures. There are two lines to place your order, which helps with the crowd: one by the main door, and the other by the patio. If you like up by the main door, you'll find all their sweet bread loaves, rolls, and snacks. If you line up by the patio, you'll find their pastry case. Either way, you're doomed to pick up more than you came there for. This place is a must! Make the drive. It's so worth it!

We asked for the custard-filled malasadas and the aunties in front ranted "why everyone calls it custard, it's not custard, it's vanilla" in a very annoyed voice. We also felt a little rushed while ordering, which caught us off guard. I was expecting a little more aloha and a little less hurry. Now the malasadas? Oh my goodness... absolutely worth the trip. Call it vanilla, call it custard--I honestly don't care because it was delicious. Soft, fluffy, filled with creamy goodness. I'd happily come back for the malasadas. Hopefully next time the aloha is as warm as the pastries. Mahalo!

A Little Hidden Gem Filled With Aloha…read more Hana Hou Restaurant was honestly the best food experience we had during our entire 8-day trip to the Big Island. We stayed in Waikoloa Village and explored Kona, Hilo, Volcano Park, South Point, the Green Sand Beach, and the Black Sand Beach, so we had plenty of opportunities to try different places. And somehow, this little hidden gem ended up being our favorite. We're from the Los Angeles area and were traveling with my husband and our teenage son, and from the moment we walked in, we felt something different here. The service was genuinely friendly, the employees seemed happy to be there, and there was such a warm aloha spirit throughout the restaurant. That kind of genuine hospitality was missing at some of the other places we visited. Even something as simple as sitting down for a cup of coffee on the morning of Day 5 of our trip felt like a pleasure. The vibe was relaxed, welcoming, and local. You could feel that this was a place connected to the community. And the food was AMAZING. My son ordered the pizza, and it was HUGE -- so big that he had enough left over for the next day. My husband had the chicken, and I ordered the noodles. Everything was delicious. But I have to talk about the papaya. I do not like papaya. At all. I was just craving some fresh fruit, so I asked what they had, and they told me they only had papaya. I figured, okay, I'll try it. It was HANDS DOWN the best papaya I have ever had in my life. I loved it so much that later in the trip, when we stopped at a fruit stand and I bought papaya, I was immediately disappointed because it wasn't even close to the papaya we had at Hana Hou! We've been to Maui and Oahu before, and this was our first trip to the Big Island. If you're traveling around the island, I highly recommend making a stop here. Don't let the fact that it's a little tucked away fool you -- this place is a true hidden gem. We're so grateful we found Hana Hou. The food was wonderful, the people were wonderful, and most importantly, we felt the aloha spirit here in a way that really stayed with us. Mahalo, Hana Hou, for being one of the highlights of our trip!
