I love their mix of music; it's perfect for those who love classic rock, acoustic, some folksy stuff, and contemporary rock. Think Brandi Carlile, Augustana, Missy Higgins, Rocky Votolato, John Mayer (all some of my faves!). Plus they have the acoustic sunrise and sunset programs, which feature live performances "unplugged" -- awesome. They also have their Studio C programs, where artists stop by the studio, interview and give exclusive performances. And, my personal favorite, "Freedom Rock", where Brian Oake plays imported, indie, and new release music that I would never hear elsewhere. Not to mention Cities97 sponsors loads of events in Minneapolis, including the Basilica Block Party. Maybe its because I grew up with them since they're my dad's fave, or maybe it's because I happen to be huge fan of the music they play, but I can't get enough of this radio station -- it's another reason I'm hugely looking forward to moving back to Minneapolis!

Radio K is also my favorite station because of how diverse their music is. They play everything from local artists to old school hip hop to experimental. And they're never pretentious, and seem always approachable (on the phone). I haven't interacted with them over the air or IRL ever because of COVID, but I look forward to seeing if they start up ticket giveaways or events again in the near future. Also, I am learning more about micro-genres of music like vaporwave and shoegaze, which is keeping this mama young and "with it" (?). Thanks, sorry.

As a straight white male (elderly?) I nevertheless want to add a review of KMOJ (89.9fm) to the…read moremix. Maybe I am not the best one to comment on KMOJ. I don't pretend to understand all aspects of life outside my orbit.. All of that aside, I have punched 89.9 into many a car radio (back in the day I used actual buttons but more recently have used GUI). Yes, it is a proud and self proclaimed advocate for Communities of Color. But anyone within range can listen:-) Home to R&B, Soul, HipHop, Rap (I think that RAP music comes out of HipHop culture but I'm not sure), Gospel, Reggae and others. I find that it offers a little something for most everyone. The signal has grown significantly over the years and now reaches most if not all of the metropolitan area from its broadcast tower. Another listener supported effort, I feel that you might want to give it some positive attention. I think that if one enjoys KMOJ for a while, you may want to contribute to its continued success.

KDWB is one of the Twin Cities radio stations I frequently have playing in my car. I enjoy…read morelistening to the Dave Ryan show in the morning, the current hits/popular songs during rush hour, and calling into the variety of contests/giveaways they offer every day. I have won concert tickets multiple times through the phone and through their random drawings in-person...I like how many chances and opportunities they give people to win! Their radio DJs also have a lot of spunk and personality which as someone who tunes in often, makes me want to listen more. Another reason that makes KDWB one of my radio stations of choice is that they hold such fun and interactive events to get the local community together. For example, I have been to two of their "Bachelorette Viewing Parties" this summer and it's always a great time. We got free goodies and enjoyed the company at the gorgeous KDWB studios. KDWB seems to get a lot of backlash and criticism for their lack of "good music" but I think it depends on who you talk to...they play plenty of new songs and oldies but goodies. I think the music is geared toward a younger audience, so don't expect any classic hits if you tune into KDWB.

What did that get them you might ask? Horribley annoying syndicated radio from guys we know dont give a crap about Minnesota. With that comes greatly reduced local coverage...unless you count the 5 hours of Patrick Ruesse's smokers cough.

I will flip back and forth between this and K102, then click over to 93X for a bit, then finally settle on some cities 97. Life is to short to listen to just 1 type of music.
