The event itself had some issues, like pure silence before the opening act. Felt a bit amateur; at least try to transition! Also, there was a big gap between the openers and the headliner. The guy doing tickets basically shrugged. The crowd on this given night was pretty diverse and excited to hear DJ Lag, whose unique genre of electronic music kept most of us intrigued and entertained. No liquor license yet, which was a drag. I went into thinking "great, another pizza truck with *sh!tty cold pizza". It was the exact opposite. I will say that as the night went on they are not as good cold, but the staff was nice enough to reheat them. I would love to experience this again on a warmer day parked right next to the table to enjoy straight out of the oven. We are team New Haven pizza and they nailed it. I was happy to see an escarole version which is oh so underrated. Having just got back from Italy and having escarole on pizza, it made my day. The Staff was very friendly and accommodating and you can see that they were really working hard to put out amazing pizza. They care about their product. Food breakdown: Crust, soft interior and crunchy and slightly charred exterior in all the good ways. You can taste the long fermentation process in the dough- not quite sourdough but great complexity and not flat tasting. I base a good dough on whether or not I need salad dressing to get down the pieces of crust that didn't have toppings. Did not need the dressing! Also, most toppings went right to the edge! Score! Sauce: perfect tomato flavor with very little acid/tang, not sweet, just good ol tomato-ey flavor. Holds on to the crust well and no slipping! Toppings: great selection and great quality. If I had to say, MAYBE the size of the toppings were a little too thick cut as you got that flop and the pointy end. The crust is so delicate that the toppings should be cut a tad smaller for some , especially the mushrooms as they are heavy. Otherwise, the meat toppings were appropriate. Best pizza truck for me. Well done guys and don't lose your passion, you can taste it.

I don't ever recall seeing a real wood fired pizza oven inside a food truck but it was pretty amazing and the team executed this event perfectly, this is definitely a professionally ran operation with a friendly and accommodating staff. There is a bar area next to the reception area. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. The balcony was a perfect spot for pictures, overlooking the grounds. The location was spacious enough for accommodating the dance floor and guests comfortably (guest list was approximately 50-60). Dinner service was prompt and overall, everyone had a fantastic night celebrating the newlyweds.

He gave us so much info and wasn't rushing us away to talk to the other hundreds of people that were there. We told him we were looking for the Thursday before Good Friday, so most guests would already have a long weekend AND we could take advantage of the great Thursday off-peak pricing we've been seeing. PJ was so excited to hear this and started explaining all of the details of the fabulous Thursday packages they were offering at Birchwoods! This package included a cake, a photo booth, a DJ, AND A PHOTOGRAPHER, all for a reasonable price per person!!! After hearing this, we looked at pictures and immediately made an appointment to go visit the venue the following weekend. I was so impressed with the venue! The decorations are gorgeous, from the second you open the front door to the hallway to the bridal suite to the room you'd have your reception in, which happened to be set up for a wedding that was happening that evening. We also met Trish during our first visit, and she was also friendly and explaining any and everything we had questions or comments about. She was pointing out all of the decorations that are theirs, which are available for you to use for your big day to save money! PJ had told us at the expo that you can use whatever they have, from centerpieces, to table numbers to card boxes to the Mr. and Mrs. signs for the sweetheart table, all things available to you that you have to provide at many venues. Now, while we ultimately didn't choose this venue because we found another place where we could have our ceremony outside, rain or shine, Birchwoods ABSOLUTELY had my favorite bridal suite! This was the only one I saw with big gorgeous windows, which would've been great for pics while getting ready, as well as for natural light to come in while getting hair and makeup done! There was also a grooms suite in the basement, which most places don't have! So, they definitely had some great features that not many places had, and it's a place you should check out if you're looking for a venue with a lot of great features, and a reasonable price! Omg, I forgot to mention something else I loved! The ladies room! Bizarre, right? But this is the only place I saw that didn't have those tiny little stalls where you practically have to straddle the toilet for the door to swing in so you can close and lock it. I swear, between the ladies room and bridal suite I was a huge fan! Those were two things they had that beat the others, hands down!

At the end we voted on our favorite crust, sauce and cheese. Beer and wine and specialty sodas were included at each stop. By the 4th stop our group of 16 all became great friends with full bellies and ideas on which restaurants we wanted to revisit.

Well, luckily having the job I have and also meeting people like Colin that are great teachers- I can say that I am much better now! And...what a fun way to learn---with french fries! You need to do this tour! The Fries Around Town Tour is four hours with four stops. It's a 1 1/2 mile walk through historic Downtown New Haven & Yale with lots of fries and beer! Our first stop was at The Trinity Bar for fish & chips & Guinness beer. Yum!! Second stop was Sherkaan for okra fries & Taj Mahal beer. This was a favorite of mine! Next up was pickle frites and New England Brewing beer at Three Sheets! Always great to see Sara! And the last stop was Union League Cafe for their delicious pomme frites with a knock out aioli and Belgian beer. Our group had such a blast and I would recommend doing this to anyone! We went to an Edgar Allen Poe speakeasy event at Lyric Hall and while it is definitively a small…read morevenue the history can be felt immediately upon entering the stage, seating, chandelier, lighting, art all beautiful and reminiscent of a time gone by when places were built with attention to detail by hand. A true treasure.

What an amazingly beautiful historic theatre! We went to the screening of the Twin Peaks pilot last…read morenight. When entering the side door of the theatre I felt like I was going back in time with all 1920's antique furniture, rugs and decor. Absolutely stunning. They kindly ushered us in from the cold and showed us the screening room where old vaudeville acts were performed in days gone by. On the other side of the entry they had refreshments set up, popcorn, which was delicious and drinks. Again I was brought back to a time where hospitality and kindness seemed to be in vogue. The theatre itself is a beautiful small room with chairs on top of an oriental rug facing the old stage. I can not think of a better place to watch a Twin Peaks screening. We can not wait for more screenings! What a treat it was.
