Attended a wedding for our friends Edwin and Stephanie here last Friday. The ceremony took place outdoors and was promptly followed up with the reception and happy hour which was within short walking distance at the same location. There is a bar area next to the reception area. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. The balcony was a perfect spot for pictures, overlooking the grounds. The location was spacious enough for accommodating the dance floor and guests comfortably (guest list was approximately 50-60). *Full disclosure-I visited (twice) for a potential wedding venue only* We met PJ at the Hartford Bridal Expo and he was awesome! He gave us so much info and wasn't rushing us away to talk to the other hundreds of people that were there. We told him we were looking for the Thursday before Good Friday, so most guests would already have a long weekend AND we could take advantage of the great Thursday off-peak pricing we've been seeing. PJ was so excited to hear this and started explaining all of the details of the fabulous Thursday packages they were offering at Birchwoods! This package included a cake, a photo booth, a DJ, AND A PHOTOGRAPHER, all for a reasonable price per person!!! After hearing this, we looked at pictures and immediately made an appointment to go visit the venue the following weekend. I was so impressed with the venue! The decorations are gorgeous, from the second you open the front door to the hallway to the bridal suite to the room you'd have your reception in, which happened to be set up for a wedding that was happening that evening. We also met Trish during our first visit, and she was also friendly and explaining any and everything we had questions or comments about. She was pointing out all of the decorations that are theirs, which are available for you to use for your big day to save money! PJ had told us at the expo that you can use whatever they have, from centerpieces, to table numbers to card boxes to the Mr. and Mrs. signs for the sweetheart table, all things available to you that you have to provide at many venues. Now, while we ultimately didn't choose this venue because we found another place where we could have our ceremony outside, rain or shine, Birchwoods ABSOLUTELY had my favorite bridal suite! This was the only one I saw with big gorgeous windows, which would've been great for pics while getting ready, as well as for natural light to come in while getting hair and makeup done! There was also a grooms suite in the basement, which most places don't have! So, they definitely had some great features that not many places had, and it's a place you should check out if you're looking for a venue with a lot of great features, and a reasonable price! Omg, I forgot to mention something else I loved! The ladies room! Bizarre, right? But this is the only place I saw that didn't have those tiny little stalls where you practically have to straddle the toilet for the door to swing in so you can close and lock it. I swear, between the ladies room and bridal suite I was a huge fan! Those were two things they had that beat the others, hands down! read more

Perfect venue! My husband and I had our wedding here in October. We fell in love with the views of the golf course, food, groom suite and bride suite, and the rustic ambiance. However, what really sets this venue apart from others is the service. From day one the staff at the Birchwoods had been attentive, compassionate, and creative. They really pulled things together to create our perfect day. The wedding was taken care of so my husband and I could enjoy the moment with friends, family, and each other. I attended a wedding at Birchwoods At Oak Lane recently and really enjoyed the food that was served as well as the whole atmosphere of the restaurant. I was also quit impressed by the service staff who were all especially friendly and very helpful. While I was at the event however, one of my favorite rings somehow slipped off my finger and I did not realize it until I returned home that evening. I called your establishment the next day and spoke with Trish to ask if anyone had turned in my ring the evening before. She said she would check around and get back to me. Trish then called me back to inform me, to my delight of course, that my ring had been discovered while cleaning up from the wedding that I attended the previous evening.I just wanted you to know that Trish, the venue manager, went above and beyond to return the ring to me. My daughter's wedding and reception was held at Birchwood at Oak Lane this past weekend. It was a great reception and Gina was our Maître d' and she was phenomenal. That girl was on point with the needs of the bride and if we needed anything. The food was delicious, but there were a few disappointments. Our guest were not given champagne for the toast, most people had empty glasses. The only ones with champagne was the bride and groom, best man and maid of honor and the parents of the bride and groom. It was scheduled to be an open bar, not top shelf but still open bar, and the bartender would not make a Long Island Iced Tea. Other than that, everyone had an awesome time read more

Went for a wedding. Outdoor ceremony was nice and scenic but the awesome screeching hawks definitely stole the show! Great bartenders and serving staff. Both said yes so overall the wedding was good. Food was decent but again, the friggin hawks nest was the best. Please don't remove the nest, it really added to the whole experience. read more

Nice surprise..stopped for lunch yesteday and ordered veggie quesadilla..it was just right and so delicious. Server was so nice and helpful..and owner was there and very friendly..nice chat. The view from the tavern area was spectacular of course..if I lived in the vicinity or that town I know I'd make several stops there a year with friends just for lunch . I heard other people that were there also complimenting the food. It's like a gem in the woods yet it's right on Rt 114 part of Traditions Golf destination. I'll be back for sure! read more

We had our wedding ceremony and reception at Birchwoods. Trish is very easy to work with and very accommodating with letting you borrow/ use what they have. She also allowed us to bring things in, like sweets for our candy bar favors. We were a little unhappy with the service some guests and vendors told us they received. Not getting their meal and having to asked for it, or getting cold/ inedible food. Several guests said the fish (that was the most amazing fish my husband said he has ever eaten after our tasting) was terrible and most sent it back. We were also unsatisfied with how some things were set up and packed at the end of the day. It appears to us that not much care or thought was put into it. Something as small as packaging up the top tier of our cake, it was done carelessly and was destroyed. Our custom cake topper was not wrapped at all, no care was put into putting it away (didn't even wipe the frosting off) and was badly broken. We are very disappointed in how the day was run. We were under the impression both Trish and Amy would be running the day together but instead Amy was working in the restaurant separate from our event. The entire day was not pushed along and run as it needed to be/ should have been. There was a SEVERE lack of communication. I am told that members of the wedding party and vendors could not find Trish multiple times throughout the day. We even had an entire FRONT row empty at the ceremony (you can see the empty row in our photos and video) but people standing. A few people told me that they were told to leave these seats empty/ they could not sit there, we have no idea why that row was left empty. I also personally find it unethical and a conflict of interest that Russell's photography is listed as a preferred vendor though Trish refers to Danielle (the owner of Russell's) as her sister it was never disclosed to us that Danielle is also listed with the Connecticut Secretary of State as a part owner. read more

Everything about our wedding was perfect! We looked at several venues, but we knew immediately that Birchwoods at Oak Lane was the right place for us. The location is very convenient to New Haven, but the grounds and area near the venue are wooded and calm. We even saw a family of deer one day on the golf course. The food was phenomenal during the reception and the venue looked stunning. Trish, the woman who runs the venue, was incredibly easy to work with and she checked in on myself and my husband throughout the night to make sure we have food, water, and drinks. She coordinated with all our other vendors to make the process as seamless and worry-free as possible. We had so much fun at our wedding reception and our guests had a blast, too! I had my wedding ceremony and reception at Birchwood's this past October and it was absolutely perfect. From the first day I walked in I knew it was the place I wanted to get married at. The venue is elegant but still has a relaxed vibe where it didn't feel stuffy. The grounds are beautiful with the birchwood trees and it made for a great backdrop for fall photos. The reception rooms are absolutely stunning with amazing windows and lighting. Trish, the venue manager is hands down one of the sweetest women I have met and is a rockstar at her job. She is cool, calm, and collected. She knows her stuff and that's exactly the type of person you want when choosing a venue. She made everything so simple and stress free. Sometimes I could email her freaking out about something and she would get back to me right away, tell me they had it covered and not to worry. The waitstaff is top notch and the food was to die for. Seriously everything we tried during the tasting was amazing. We ended up with the chicken scallopini, prime rib and cod. You will have a hard time choosing your food because everything was so good.
