Avoid this place. They will see you for 5 minutes after you've been waiting loooooong past your scheduled appointment time. Multiple times we've waited for over an hour to be seen. This was not an isolated incident as it has happened consistently regardless of when the appt is scheduled (morning, afternoon, etc.). If the care we received was worth it, I don't think we'd mind waiting but in multiple visits the PA/NP (Nicole?) has been neither thorough nor compassionate. I wasn't going to leave a review but was truly shocked to see their high rating so felt I owed the community at large a fair warning. Stay away from this practice unless you are looking for a practice that wastes your time and gives you subpar care. There are better places in the nearby area (Troy, Birmingham) who will value your time and treat you with the compassionate care you deserve. If you are already a patient here, I encourage you to find another practice and potentially look into filing a formal complaint through LARA as well as your insurance company if your "care" was as subpar as ours has been, as I will be looking into. This is absolutely appalling. But at least the front office staff is pleasant! Kidding - they're incredibly rude and unhelpful - negativity attracts negativity. I took the pills for another week and got worse. Called him, he said maybe your heart then, do the blood test. I did the blood test immediately and then although the test result was normal, he called me and asked me to go to the emergency room on Saturday night at 10 PM! We went to ER, were there until next morning and did lots of tests, and everything was normal (they told me we don't know why he sent you to ER at all but if you like you can ask him to write a CT scan to be sure everything is ok!) I called him to send me a CT scan order he told me I should schedule another appointment and see him again to give me the test order!! I scheduled another appointment and went to see him, and he said ok if you want to do the CT scan here is the order (he could do that without asking me to go and pay for another visit). I told him BTW I had thyroid problems before (he knew that from my files), do you think we should test it too? He said, hm it's not from thyroid but why not, let's test that too! I checked my thyroid, and it was super high!!! Finally, it turned out that it was my thyroid, not my heart or muscles !! I ended up paying 3000$ for ER and 400$ for the office visits !!! The following week, I received a $150 bill for that brief visit. I contacted Dr. Kastl multiple times to express my concern and pointed out that, based on my understanding of Michigan law and federal guidelines, the medication I take does not require a mandatory six-month follow-up. Rather than acknowledging my concerns or showing any empathy, my messages were dismissed by simply stating "it's our policy". In this situation, patient care took a back seat to billing. After being a loyal patient for years, I was extremely disappointed by how this was handled. I called the doctor's office back ( another long wait ), got a different receptionist and she informed me that the medication I needed came up on something called MAPS as being filled in March. I told her that it was last filled in January, read it from my bottle and she all but accused me of drug seeking. I was totally confused because the medication I needed isn't even a controlled substance in any sort of MAPS sense and I've been taking it for decades. she assured me that she would discuss it with my doctor. I call the pharmacy, they confirm that I didn't have it filled in March and ask the doctors office to call them, I call the doctors office and after another 20 minute wait I ask them to call the pharmacy. I wait another hour and call the pharmacy, of course they never received a call from Troy IM. This time the pharmacist answered and he said "they are confusing the medications, they think you are asking for drug A, which was refilled in March, ( and I've taken 2 of ) not drug B which was last refilled in January and isn't a MAPS drug so they flagged you as drug seeking for the wrong medication. FLAGGED ME AS DRUG SEEEKING???? what??? All because ONE receptionist didn't want to bother listening to what I was saying. She shouldn't be working with people and she definitely shouldn't be working with patients at a doctor's office. Bottom line: avoid this doctor's office. the ratings are in the toilet for a reason.
