Now the cons; **For an event space, it's an odd shape, long and narrow. ** The industrial heaters and rafters hanging 20 feet up cant be hidden easily. So if you are hoping to completely camouflage the interior, you'll have a tough time. **The walls are cinderblock and painted in a light color.This makes the drabness stand out. The owners should paint the entire interior black (or white). There are multiple colors going up the wall that make it look like a workshop or oil change place (which I think it was). ** The back has an overhead, garage style door that needs to be covered. ** Is there heat or air conditioning? When I was there, the front door was kept open, so I cant be sure. Make sure to ask when inquiring. ** NARROW!!! You enter into a small front room, then a narrow hallway, then a kitchen/bar area on the right, and stairs to the loft on your left. It makes the area very crowded.

It wasn't until I attended a fundraising event here a couple weeks ago that I learned this. Opera serves as a full service private event venue and caterer and has hosted corporate functions, class reunions, proms, wedding ceremonies and receptions, product launches, and even sumo wrestling matches. Before the fundraiser, my previous visit to Opera was on a packed weekend night with hundreds of tipsy/drunk people and clubgoers packed onto the various dance floors with seizure-inducing strobe lights and DJs blasting EDM and hip hop at deafening levels. The fundraiser made me see Opera in a completely different light, literally. The space was brightened up and I could actually see the floors, walls, and ceilings. If you actually take a time to look at the design, decor, and architecture of the place, it's actually pretty nice. The building was originally designed as an auditorium in the 1920s. It was used for, among other things, operas and live theater. Designed by the same architects behind Atlanta's Fox Theatre, it wasn't until the late 1980s that the building started to function as a nightclub. It became known as Opera in 2007. As an event venue, its maximum capacity is roughly 1,000-1,200. After countless nights of clubbing, the staff manages to clean up the space well. There are hardwood floors, detailed and ornate walls, columns, and ceilings, intricate and sparkling chandeliers, arched entryways, and tall velvet curtains. There are multiple rooms and bars. Unfortunately, the carpeted area upstairs, which is used as the VIP section on club nights, smells awful. Presumably, it's the result of many a spilled drink in addition to excreted bodily fluids. The event I attended had food, drinks, live music, and a silent auction. A multitude of local restaurants and vendors donated food. The fantastic lineup included JCT. Kitchen & Bar, Wrecking Bar Brewpub, Ration & Dram, The Luminary, Souper Jenny, Pig & Pint, Leon's Full Service, Bantam + Biddy, Home Grown, The Mercantile, Affairs to Remember Caterers, The Ice Cream Bar, Frozen Pints Craft Beer Ice Cream, and Taproom Coffee. The auction had all sorts of items up for bid including decorative art, furniture, gift certificates, club tickets to sporting events, and more. As far as I could tell, it was a success. Parking close-by costs money. There's a surface lot directly next to the building accessible via Crescent Ave. There's also a parking garage across the street at the corner of Crescent and 14th. We parked there. The rate was $1 every 15 minutes up to a maximum of $12.

I highly recommend this space for someone that wants a lot of bang for their buck! They also have rehersal spaces for rent in the back, but there's a waiting list to get in these amazing climate controled spaces. Plenty of Parking, lots of awesome art galleries on either side and everyone there is very accomidating!

If you have driven much between Midtown and Buckhead, odds are that you've passed this castle-like house before. Parking is across Spring Street in a dedicated lot (underneath an on-ramp to the connector). You then just cross the street and are behind the home itself. We entered via the front door which faces Peachtree Street. Our tour lasted about an hour and focused on the architecture and history of the home. It was constructed early in the 20th century and has a lot of nice details (woodwork, light fixtures, wall murals, etc.). The tour does not include the upstairs (which is now office space for the historic trust that operates the site). It does include a brief visit to the basement, which is just an average semi-finished space. There is also a room with historical photos of the surrounding area - the shopping plaza that was built later and which surrounded the home on three sides at one point (only one 'arm' of derelict shops still exists). I recall when the Rhodes Theater was still in operation (showing older and/or cult films). I've driven by here countless times and it was nice to actually get an in-depth tour of the property. This is definitely worth doing once if you live in the area or have an interest in architecture.

So it was really an easy choice for my partner and I who married on Sunday, April 24th, 2016. We had 95 guests with our ceremony on the steps, cocktail and reception split inside and out so that the dance floor could be in the reception. It was a bit windy for the piping drape and urns so be certain you weight down well. Chrystal was a true joy, her experience with the venue gave her the knowledge to make great suggestions. While we did add florals and décor on the tables and mantels, we kept them in the feel of the home very lush and loose. We wanted people to explore the home the whole evening, not just for ceremony or dinner. We put the bar into the den so it was just off the dance floor (in the reception hall ) and would keep people flowing through the home even after dinner. She offered to work with us every step of the way and was always easy to reach when needed. I got my cake bar in the parlor with my 60" rounds plus sweetheart table and the rest of the guests were either seated in the library or on the porch. Dinner was buffet style, then we all returned for dancing and mingling. Several did mingle on the front and side porches, taking photos of the home, ceremony or photo backdrop. The day of is truly a whirlwind, the staff was on top of everything. I'm very hands on and they wouldn't allow me to do anything. = ) I too, returned from my honeymoon to find my security deposit check had been returned. It was even easy to pick up the cooler we realized had been left there about 2 weeks we later. I can't wait to see the rest of our photos as the peeks I've gotten have been amazing! I know I didn't get the chance to thank you all then, but I do wish to say THANKS! to each of you who helped make our day so very special!
