I would not recommend using this office for real estate closings based on my experience. I was disappointed with both the fees charged and the overall level of service. In my opinion, the closing costs for a free-and-clear property were significantly higher than expected. Additionally, it has been nearly two weeks since the closing, and I have still not received my proceeds. Communication throughout the process was also lacking. I had difficulty getting timely updates, which made an already frustrating situation even more disappointing. As someone who values professionalism, transparency, and prompt service, I will not be using this attorney for future real estate transactions. read more

They helped me with the simple matter of showing up to court and plea bargaining a traffic ticket. They were friendly, inexpensive, and actually took the effort to call me back to let me know the matter was fixed, exactly as described. Can you say SHYSTER? Look it up, this jerk personifies the word. I've actually wondered if there really IS a lawyer named Dewey Keller, or if was a name taken off a Lenoir gravestone, and used as a front for his practice alongside his front-end staff. I'd like to say I used Keller as a settlement attorney, only it's 180° from that, because he sure used the hell out of me. Others too. This is a small town, and I've been amazed at the other stories I've heard. Keller was recommended to me by a lackluster real estate agent, and apparently it's all part of a real estate kickback scheme - I seriously doubt if my agent ever met him either. In NC you cannot purchase a home without a settlement attorney - same goes for many other states. This is far from my first home purchase, and I can say I've never received worse treatment, and I can only pray he (his staff, rather, because he himself doesn't do squat) that all the necessary deeds, title searches and everything else was properly done. Keller is a bona fide rubber stamp operation extraordinaire, no more, maybe even a lot less. Never have I paid fees to an attorney, and never got to meet him or her, but this guy wouldn't even speak to me on the phone much less shake my hand and promise to provide good service for the hard earned money I put into his coffers. I even wrote him, and asked that the letter be personally given to him; I received a response, only it was from a staff member. I had two simple yet important questions, and she passed the buck to the real estate agent, and worse, she was a complete bitch about it! I've met others who've pretty much said the same things - I even met his neighbor who said one day he called out to Keller, simply to warn him about his tree that looked like it was going to fall down - Keller obviously didn't hear what his neighbor was saying, so he yells back: "get ahold of my secretary, I'm too busy right now!" You can fix a home, but you surely can't fix lousy neighbors... I'm just glad he's not a neighbor of mine. What's really scary about this a'hole is he doesn't just practice real estate law. So God help any poor slob who retains Keller's services in a much more serious case, like criminal law. It's people like Keller who leave a malodorous smell attached to the name "lawyer", because he's just pond scum with a law degree, all about the almighty buck, and absolutely nothing else. BLOCKED REVIEW BY GOOGLE MARKETING JANUARY 2021: REALTORS OF LENOIR PLEASE GET A BIGGER ATTORNEY GENE POOL, YOU'RE STARTING TO MAKE US ALL LOOK LIKE CHEAP FOOLS. We have used this firm in 2017 as a "buyer", and 2020 as a "seller"; so let's drop the pretense that anybody picks this firm. Most just accept what they get around here and it is worst than missing your Christmas twice. This firm and the realtors associated with them worked up a contract to close with someone who never had the legal right to sign any contracts at all. How can this firm entangle "buyers" and "sellers" in such illegitimacy? How can they tie up the time and money of us, the bank, and especially the USDA loan process with paperwork that had no business being arranged in the first place? These poor "buyers" have terminated an agreement we refused to sign, and THEY refuse to check any of the reasons on the termination form because all reasons reflect a negative condition on our part. What was needed is ANOTHER box to check that stated: X-"Bad Sign" when the realtor took furniture left by "seller" including a bookcase bolted to the wall that left a gaping unpainted hole on the wall. My stomach hurts. This firm and the realtors associated with them did not do the simplest of due diligence, but everyone made sure to get their spoils from this deal. Now it looks as if this firm has left their client vulnerable to being sued by not properly terminating their obligation. Why is such cash cropping of the most vulnerable of our community allowed? Why is an assault on our moral character needed to complete the due diligence to terminate this contract? This firm has chosen (so far) to leave their client hanging rather than properly terminating their obligation. HOW CAN THIS FIRM HAVE A 4 Star RATING BY ITS PEERS?!? How long should we wait for this firm to complete its duty to create a new form for their client at, I hope, no charge to this family that they did not represent well. I found out the following year when I got my tax notice, his office used the wrong tax parcel ID. According to records I didn't own a 4 bedroom house, I owned a double wide next door. So they cleared that up, then later when trying to refinance for a lower rate, I find out that the legal description is wrong! Where in the legal description it said go so many feet east, they wrote go so many feet west. So I had to hire a land surveyor and another attorney to fix that problem. The other attorney found 2 or 3 other mistakes Keller's people made, so he fixed them also. It seems that Mr Keller let's his staff run the office and he will fix what ever they mess up, IF YOU CATCH the mistake. Real estate is something you don't want mistakes on!!!! They are not great at keeping and appointments or informing a client about any updates. On top of that, it doesn't seem to me like they do much research on their own. This guy, "Dewey Keller", is a real a**hole. It makes me sick that I let my Realtor used him when selling my property. I was out of state, so I let my Realtor use who she got as a replacement for the attorney in town that retired. Since I was selling an investment property, I needed some advice on if I could have them hold the money so that I could reinvest in a property closer to where I currently live. I call the office. A male answers the phone (this ends up being Robert Keller!). I ask my question. He doesn't understand the question. I ask it again. He asked if he can put me on hold. I agree. He comes back to the line and tells me that I am trying to do an exchange, but they cannot help me with holding the money in order to do this per IRS guidelines. I ask if I can speak to Mr. Keller. He says, "I am Mr. Keller. I am Robert Keller." I asked for Dewey Keller since he had signed all of the documents. Robert Keller explained that he too was a lawyer, that he put me on hold to ask the paralegal my question and that his father would tell me the same thing. Robert Keller also emphasized that this was his practice, too. Given that "Robert Keller", secretary and apparently an attorney (perhaps from an online university?), had to put me on hold to ask my question to a paralegal, I requested that Dewey Keller give me a call. Dewey Keller did call me and basically chewed me out for: 1) not accepting his son's answer and 2) then accused me of trying to break the law and commit a felony and use them to help with it. Actually, I was trying NOT to break the law, which was why I wanted to speak to the lawyer I already paid!!! I wanted to speak to a lawyer who seemed like they knew what they were talking about, not someone who had to go look it up or ask a paralegal. Lenoir is a very small town and this may be one of the only real estate law offices (and I say that loosely), but if you can find another option, I highly advise you to take your business elsewhere. And if "Robert Keller" will be taking over the place soon....go outside of Lenoir if you have to. read more
