out motoring across the plateau checking out the watery fun inland. leaving the grand coulee dam I drove the hypotenuse and a short leg of a right isosceles triangle to get here (the longest route you can take without actually driving away from the ferry) the river is cut pretty deep in the hills so you're going to lose phone coverage along the way down. it mostly comes back on the way up depending on your carrier but you'll still want to download the offline maps or have a dedicated GPS device.
unlike some of its mid-american cousins this ferry is an impressive little boat all shiny and sleek with a fancy superstructure straddling the deck. the ferry can handle vehicles up to 100 feet long in at least one lane, possibly two, or maybe all three lanes. the signs weren't very clear about this but there could be up to nine school busses on board... cool B-)
please be aware that the Colville Reservation abuts the northern landing and you're about gonna leave the several states on your way to Canada so drive nice. read more
