This is a great little visitor center to stop at right off of the main highway. There is plenty of…read moreparking and a small park right next to the parking lot with monuments to look at and grass to let your dog out on and little paths to walk if you need to stretch your legs. The visitor center offers restrooms and a cute little photo op with props that matches the Western theme of the town. I was able to find a free concert theme put on tomorrow in the area that I will be in on their bulletin board. The woman who works inside was very kind and helpful and even offered directions. She also said it was fine if I brought my small dog inside, which was very nice of her. I stopped in this morning and it had everything I needed. This is definitely worth a stop if you're in the area!

But once you get to see this living geology lesson in person, it's easy to consider this a must-see if you're in the area. Whew! Guide Randy was great! Engaging, dry humored and personable. It's pretty rigorous to take the tour due to heightened security. Check the rules: no bags, only water in a clear bottle, etc. You have to put all your items into a tray for inspection and then go through a metal detector. Two vans transported us to one of the power stations where Ralph gave us an insightful yet brief overview. We were in the second van with Guide Kathy who was bland, lacking energy, lacking excitement in her voice and seemed annoyed because she kept looking at her watch during the tour. The next stop was across the top of the dam which was cool. Before 9/11 you could park and walk across the dam but no more. Regardless, it was a good experience having done this at Hoover Dam years ago. And the tour was over. Too short so be sure to go to the visitors center. There are places to eat in the town approaching the park and there was plenty of parking at the visitor center on this day. Do visit this dam and take in this engineering wonder.

We were so pleased to happen upon this lovely little park adjacent to Hwy 395 (fence around the…read moreplay area for safety). It was easy to access with lots of free parking on gravel lots. The park has a playground, 2 tennis courts, 2 basketball hoops, seasonal public restrooms, benches, picnic tables, barbecue pits, pavilion, baseball field, and a stage against the backdrop of the jagged hills to the north. The Kettle Falls Information Center is also located across the street. It was a great place for our kids to spend an hour happily getting some wiggles out. We'll definitely plan to stop again if we're in the area!

If you've ever even considered renting a houseboat on Lake Roosevelt please doooooo it! We spent 4…read morenights on one of the Galaxy Class boats, party of 9 (6 adults and 3 kids). We've been seeing these houseboats since our early days of camping at Keller Ferry in the late 90s into the 2000s. The reservation process was easy and they prefer to talk on the phone (real people!) rather than emailing back and forth, which I appreciated. The staff were gracious and helpful during the arrival how-to walk-thru. They had a slew of young people on hand to help us load our supplies onto the boat upon arrival and then again when we were leaving to help get everything off. They do say this on their website and it's important to know that the boat has minimum supplies. Guests need to bring EVERYTHING special you think you might want to use. The kitchen is manageable but we definitely packed extras. We had an amazing time using the upper deck slide, hot tub, and outdoor kitchen. Lake Roosevelt is just how we remembered it and we can't wait to plan another houseboat trip!

The boat was beautifully appointed, from the fully stocked and full-size kitchen to the comfy living room to the hot tub on top. Everything worked perfectly. I would just give a heads up that, at least on our boat, the cozy staterooms were really bunk rooms with almost no floor space, so pack accordingly! Finally, but importantly, the staff was very accommodating and friendly and made sure that all of our concerns were addressed. What a wonderful, unique family vacation! I highly recommend Lake Roosevelt Adventures.
