Putting all the kids into bright colored & bling bling costumes and conducting a big recital may impress parents, but that's too superficial. If fun is all you want for your child, maybe this will work. But if you want some classical ballet techniques and discipline for your child, and elegance and grace, go elsewhere. It is fantastic for both recreational students as well as for preparing the more serious dancers for competition, college dance teams, and professional dancing. The studio is clean and pretty and in a convenient location off Rt 1& 138 at the Tower (aka near smoothies and donuts lol), and honestly, it's worth our 25 minute drive from our town. Parents are able to watch their kids through the viewing window in each of the two studios, or just sit and chill during class on the comfy couch, chat with other parents, or watch the sunset from the chairs on the quieter side, or they can feel safe leaving their children in the teachers' care while running errands. The Teachers are kind, fun, and loving, but also stern and get down to business when they need to be. They really know how to keep the fun and joy in dancing. Val has a way of making each kid feel special and each parent feel like her best friend. And the recitals.... Just wow! They put on such an amazing performance, and a video copy of the show and professional action digital photos are included with your ticket!! I am in awe at the high skill level, perfection, beauty, and sass of all numbers, but especially the older dancers and the teams. I have been moved to tears or clapped and cheered in excitement with so many numbers. My youngest and I usually even stay to watch to second showtime to see all of the other routines because we love it so much and have so much fun at the shows. Many of the dancers have been dancing at this studio for 5+ years, it is like a family. Both her Zumba and Bengra classes are high-energy, non-judgmental, and mostly--a lot of fun. I always walk out of them feeling mentally and physically better than I came in! And afterward the foggy windows tell the tale of how much energy the class required... Others have talked about the Sunday Zumba class, but my favorite is the Bhangra class on Wednesday: step by step, Rupa builds up a little routine that you then dance to a few different songs. This gives you a pleasurable feeling of "mastering" something by the end of class (well, after a couple classes!), and a chance to explore these moves in different rhythms. Finally, I like that this style of dancing has a lot of arm moves, so you don't only work out your core and legs, but also your arms and shoulders...

Flash forward and I am totally hooked! Sundays without Zumba just make my whole week feel "off." The instructor, Rupa, is enthusiastic, welcoming, and supportive. The mix of Latin, Bollywood, and Banghra makes the class stand out from most Zumba classes I have been to, with awesome beats and moves that work your whole body head to toe. Rupa is amazing to watch, and when she's really into a new song that she LOVES, her energy is so contagious that you can't help but join in. While it's not the most hard core Zumba I've seen or heard about, I definitely recommend going at least twice. The first class, the moves might seem complicated or awkward, especially if you're used to traditional Latin dances. But that definitely disappears by the 2nd and 3rd class. Now she's considering pursuing dancing as a professional career and that is a true testament to the teachers at this studio. My daughter has grown from occasionally toddler hobbyist dancer into a maturing professional minded competitive dancer. She danced on stage in Walt Disney World with her dance team - a rare and unique opportunity that we wouldn't have had if it were not for The Dance Connection. During this frightening and uncertain time, The Dance Connection has gone above and beyond to make dancers and parents feel safe. When COVID prompted massive business shutdowns, our studio found a way to ensure our dancers wouldn't have to suffer and they worked together to deliver Zoom (virtual) classes every week. I know that this seemingly small gesture is what kept my daughter from breaking down during a time when it felt - and still feels - like the world will never go back to the way we once knew. The world looks different right now and none of us know what the future will bring. The Dance Connection has not missed a beat and has rolled with all of the changes and laws and requirements to follow required protocols and still make every effort to give our dancers some semblance of normalcy during such a chaotic time.
