It is fantastic for both recreational students as well as for preparing the more serious dancers for competition, college dance teams, and professional dancing. The studio is clean and pretty and in a convenient location off Rt 1& 138 at the Tower (aka near smoothies and donuts lol), and honestly, it's worth our 25 minute drive from our town. Parents are able to watch their kids through the viewing window in each of the two studios, or just sit and chill during class on the comfy couch, chat with other parents, or watch the sunset from the chairs on the quieter side, or they can feel safe leaving their children in the teachers' care while running errands. The Teachers are kind, fun, and loving, but also stern and get down to business when they need to be. They really know how to keep the fun and joy in dancing. Val has a way of making each kid feel special and each parent feel like her best friend. And the recitals.... Just wow! They put on such an amazing performance, and a video copy of the show and professional action digital photos are included with your ticket!! I am in awe at the high skill level, perfection, beauty, and sass of all numbers, but especially the older dancers and the teams. I have been moved to tears or clapped and cheered in excitement with so many numbers. My youngest and I usually even stay to watch to second showtime to see all of the other routines because we love it so much and have so much fun at the shows. So impressed with Val and her studio; can't recommend it enough.

She makes it fun but still challenging enough that the students learn exactly what they need to become better dancers. She teaches them the correct terminology for the dance moves, even at a young age. We love this! Super beautiful and clean studio space, great for all ages! We can't say enough good things about Soles Dance Academy!

He said to me, "It's... all... girls." Panic set in. I convinced him to give it a try. When I picked him up later that day, he said, "Best... camp... ever!" That carried on for the full three weeks, concluding with an incredible play where the students created a whole musical from scratch... plot, music, words, sets, choreography - everything. The counselors are there help them with each piece. That was summer of 2022. It was the best three weeks of his life. He had us sign up for TASM in 2023 - this time doing the musical and Shakespeare. (What 10-year-old learns Shakespeare?!?!) Again, it was the best five weeks of his life. His younger brother just became eligible and did the "techies" version. That's where they create the sets, run the lighting, sound, and all those behind the scene things. He's hooked as well and will be signing up next year.

As the mother of twin toddlers, I absolutely understand that their attention span can be short…read more However, after the experience we had with Nancy at RI Ballet Arts, I would caution parents with young toddlers before starting her pre-ballet class. After a recommendation from a friend with a daughter about 9 months older, I asked Nancy if we could visit a class and allow my daughter (turned 3 end of August) to observe and determine her level of interest before we signed up for class ($90 without apparel and shoes). Nancy was accommodating and also said she could participate if she wanted to. We first went 2 weeks ago, with only one other student in class, and she went in to participate. My daughter was a little hesitant but excited about class and the new environment. During the class, Nancy did remind her to listen a few times and although I thought she seemed a little abrasive for a toddler class with a new student, I assumed it was just an old school personality. My daughter wasn't performing the skills perfectly, but hey, it was her first class, and she liked it, so we decided we'd come back again. We talked to her at home about using her listening ears before today's class. My daughter was so excited, told her grandparents "dance is her favorite" and couldn't wait to get into class today! There were 3 other students and 4 parents in the small waiting area this week. Nancy asked if my daughter was going to listen this week, which I didn't think was a super appropriate greeting for a 3 year old, but okay. Class started, and my daughter was happy and having fun but not exactly performing the best - again, she's still new. Within 10 minutes of the class starting, I hear "get out then, go, go, go, go!" Another parent saw her walking out before I did and asked if she was alright, as she came out of the dance room crying and upset. I consoled her and gave her a drink of water. While she was still upset, Nancy came out of the dance room and very rudely said "(Daughter's name) doesn't want to listen and she's disrupting the class so I told her she needs to get out." I honestly wasn't prepared for that type of interaction and just said ok, and started talking to my daughter again, who was still upset. She then said "Are you going to come back in and listen and not disrupt class?" and when my daughter didn't respond because she was upset, she then rudely said "Then you miss out!" and walked back into class. I did not respond. I asked my daughter if she wanted to participate again after she settled down, and she wanted to go home, so I changed her and we left. Afterwards, my husband wanted to call and ask what happened and what we could do, if anything, at home. Nancy immediately started yelling saying that our daughter didn't listen and we need to tell her to pay attention, said she was jumping when she wasn't supposed to be. My husband asked why she rudely asked her to leave the class because it was upsetting for a small child, and her response was "goodbye, goodbye, goodbye!" and she ended the call. I was stunned. We participate in a ton of things - swim, soccer, preschool, playdates, etc., and even though their skills are not on point at first, they're still pretty well-behaved, and at no time have we witnessed any teacher, coach, or instructor act in this way to any child. Every child has moments where they don't want to participate and that's okay. They can take a little time and go back. How Nancy handled this was inappropriate and it seems like this age group might not be the best for her to teach, even though no child of any age or skill should have been treated that way. I respect and admire dance and the level of discipline it takes but at ages 3-4, this was shocking. I'd like to say my daughter had a great experience and this place welcomes little learners, but I can't. I truly hope others with young children have a better experience here but I felt I needed to share for anyone looking to sign their child up for beginner ballet. Thankfully, my daughter still wants to dance and I know she'll thrive elsewhere.

I'm surprised there hasn't been a review for this dance school. What a hidden gem! The teachers…read moreare all professionals with formal ballet training. The director Nancy started out in RI and then went on to study at the Boston Ballet and NYC at the Ballet Russe School. We sent our little one to another local school first and was shocked by the chaos and trashiness of that place. Then we came to Ms. Nancy's school. What a difference!! This is what ballet, as an art, should be! Not that we want our daughter to become a professional dancer, but we want her to learn, through dance, the discipline and dedication required to do something well. If I were to summarize this school in 3 words, they would be: grace, elegance, discipline. We are very happy to have found this school!

Well, I know nothing about dance. But my granddaughter goes to this dance school and she loves it…read more Started 40 years ago by Carolyn Dutra, a former Rockette, there are several studios within the state. My granddaughter's big dance recital was on Sunday. This is the 4th one I attended and this by far was the best one. Her 1st dace was to Disco Duck, and I must admit it wasn't very good. Costumes didn't seem appropriate for the dance and the girls really didn't seem to know what they were doing. However, her second dance was "Once Upon A Time" and it was gorgeous. Costumes were great, the lyrics to the song were beautiful, and the interpretation actually brought a tear to my eye. This one was right on. And I noticed, all the while, my granddaughter had a smile on her face. And to me, that tells the story. And as I watched the older girls dance, I thought, this is a good thing for little girls and boys. I was told that her classes will be split next year as she advances. Right now she spends 1 hour a week with a combo class of tap & ballet. Next year there will be a class for tap and another for ballet. Not only does this mean more time, but more money. And it's not cheap! And the cost for the costumes for the recitals they do are ridiculous, since they wear them for maybe 2 minutes. However, even Fred Astaire & Ginger Rogers had to start somewhere. Perhaps she will be the next Julianne Hough (hmmm, probably not, Julianne does ballroom). Regardless, she is learning discipline, tap & ballet. And she's happy. What more could a grandma want from a dance school?
