It was fun to explore the greenhouse and look at all the really old plants hanging from the ceiling. It was such a great place to be on a rainy Sunday afternoon. Finally went to this wonderful greenhouse after hearing about it particularly since I moved to Milwaukee. Nestled in Riverwest, it is a bit of a magical place. All the plants. All around. Not sure what is reasonable or pricey for a plant, but most of them seemed fair to me. Although I did have to put back a string of pearls succulent. A little pricey, and I know I would kill this beauty. It was nice to just wander about without anyone trying to be overly helpful. Took my time and found some new plants for my apartment. Which will not die on me!! The staff, at checkout, were very friendly and efficient. I will definitely go back. Great succulent selection which I have a soft spot for. read more

This place is truly a hidden gem! Set back off of the east side of busy Humbolt Ave in Riverwest is an oasis of plants like you've never seen. It feels like a botanical garden! They have plants for all occasions, outside and in greenhouses, perennials and annuals and vegetable plants of all colors, shapes, and sizes. Looking for a gift for a hard-to-shop-for person? Look no further! There is something for everyone here. Prices for plants are definitely reasonable (from what I have experienced), pots are on the pricey side. It is really difficult to purchase just one or two plants when I visit.... I want 50! :) Definitely an enjoyable and relaxing experience. It was a dreary pandemic Saturday, when I decided some new life in my home was in order. I found Kellner on Yelp and we jumped in the car to head down. Upon entry, I felt absolutely transported. They have plants literally from floor to ceiling. So much lush gorgeousness. I could spend a good bit of time wandering around just soaking it all in. One thing that struck me was the exotic quality of some of the plants. I checked out their African Violet selection and they were of a variety I've never seen before. The leaves were so large and deep green. They were gorgeous. They also have a decent selection of pots and rope plant hangers. The proprietor was kind and helpful. The parking is a bit bizarre. There's a sign at the beginning of the drive that was confusing (are you not supposed to park in there? where would you park if not? in the surrounding neighborhood, I guess?). We parked in the paved area adjacent to the building but not sure that was totally acceptable (though nobody mentioned anything). Aside from that mild oddness, we thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Kellner and anticipate many more trips in the future! Get to it! read more

Kellner's giving me allllll the spring time feels. In effort to find mom a great addition to her patio as a mother's day gift, we hoped greenhouses would be opening back up. To our surprise, Kellners is now up and running again (hooray)! Though I come here yearly for a Christmas tree, I somehow had never been inside the actual greenhouse. Yesterday was a sunny and beautiful day to walk around the property and stop to smell the roses. Upon arrival, we realized there was a sign indicated that masks were required to enter (totally understandable, and something I agree with). That being said, unfortunately our masks weren't with us on this outing. Fear not, Kellner's offers them at a dollar a piece. We entered and strolled through each of the three massive houses full of color and fresh smelling soil. I honestly know *nothing* about plants - like I'm that gal that can barely keep a cactus alive - so we didn't choose the gift based on anything other than appearance. We're definitely happy with it and know mom will love it! They also ofter lots and lots of pots in all sizes, and other garden accessories. I now have a balcony of my own, so after a little research, I'll be back to shop for myself. read more

A giant greenhouse tucked into a residential riverwest street. You don't expect kellners and then there it is as your driving down the street tucked away in between big old houses. You have to walk into the main building before you discover the true size of their operation here. They also have some vegetables and smaller plants out in front leading up to the main building. Inside there's indoor plants too and various other items. There's a giant green house then through a passage way and it was filled with those giant lush hanging baskets that were just what I was looking for. (One can never have too many petunias imho). It's all kind of jammed in here and yes, they are a little more expensive than big box stores. What I really liked was the plants were color coded with tags telling you shade/sun/part sun etc. Note that there is a $20 min for credit card purchases. They offered drive up service (I was ok carrying my goods) but as mentioned in other reviews, I'm not sure if you can park on the property. I love this place. I love this place at Christmas in particular when I can smell the fire and fresh Christmas trees! Not only will they have a beautiful selection of fresh trees of all sizes for you they have a beautiful selection of fresh wreaths of all sizes too. Great pricing and shopping small and local keep me coming back every year. The greenhouse itself still has tons of seasonal plants too! Be sure to spend time walking around inside. One day, last year, we stumbled upon Kellner's Greenhouse when out for a drive on a nice day. The greenhouse is a hidden gem in the city, and has whatever your plant needs are. The prices are fair, and the staff are also very helpful. Comparing the plants we bought at Home Depot to Kellner last year, your Kellner plants were much healthier, bloomed more, and grew considerably larger. They also have all the fertilizers you might need, soil, and a bunch of nice pots for sale. So glad we stopped and will continue to use them for our flower needs! read more

I love this place so, so much. It's like a "Mary Poppins bag" of plants - you keep thinking you'll come to the end, and then BOOM - another set of greenhouses. So many beautiful plants, I wish I had a larger home and yard so I could buy even more! They have a really wide range of flowers, herbs, and veggies, and while many greenhouse places go wayyyy too far down the "gifts and decor" road, Kellner's is basically all plants, all the time. Also, the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful, popping up to offer to carry something, bring another basket or box, and generally support you in meeting your plant addiction! The quality of the plants is also excellent - they are hardy and transplant well into the garden and/or planters with minimal shock - these babies are well raised and strong! Skip the box stores that treat their plants with bee-killing chemicals and support this Milwaukee local. If Kellner's doesn't have it, you don't need it. read more

Kellner is truly a gem in Milwaukee. It's such a wonderful and cozy spot and I'm happy to make a trip out of every visit. I stopped here because I was driving by and just wanted to check it out. This greenhouse has a lot of variety in plants - I was able to find some day lilies in colors that I don't find in big box stores. I was glad to see a variety of perennials that I really really liked. They also had a variety of annuals and vegetables plants. And of course they have different herbs too! We've been going to Kellner for years and love to support local small businesses. I would normally rate them as 4 or 5 stars. But, when I went today (Saturday), they were not doing enough to ensure proper social distancing. There were too many people inside waiting to be rung up, and 6-ft distancing was not being observed. Was visiting friends in Milwaukee and stopped into Kellner's for some plants. Found a lot of more hard to find plants that had been on my list for a while. The service was great, they answered questions about a plant I had at home that I was having trouble with, and even let you use their soil to repot if you buy a plant and a pot from them! Very happy with their pricing as well! Plants that are more common were listed as cheaper and the variety was outstanding! Would definitely recommend to anyone interested in getting some quality plants and supporting a great local business! read more

Hidden downtown gem! I was so impressed with the variety of tropical plants and beautiful flowers inside of the large greenhouse. It feels like a botanical garden it is that lovely. They also offer a huge variety of organic vegetable plants and good pricing. Bonus! That is usually hard to find. The owner is super friendly and thanks customers for coming in. I totally "dig" this place. I visit Kellner's "annually." Family-owned and operated, they're really "down to earth" at Kellner's. Find everything from seeds to plants, veggies, hanging baskets, flowers, accoutrement.. they've got the garden game on lock, Milwaukee. A little more expensive than their big chain counterparts, but the service, attention, and knowledge that you're supporting a HYPER-local business makes the extra pennies worth it. Don't do business with this place. I only gave it the two stars because the first staff person I spoke with was very helpful and pointed me to the plants I wanted to get. When I went to check out, I pulled out my card to pay. The guy at the cashier said in a very condescending voice, "you have to pay cash since this doesn't add up to $20." I said, "I only have my card." He said in a very nasty tone, "I'll let it go this time but next time you will have to pay." Needless to say, Kellner's Greenhouses will not get a next time to get my money. This guy is the rudest business owner I've encountered. My advice is to avoid this place. There are other nurseries nearby that will treat you with respect. read more

I've never been to Kellner's before and I can say that after this experience I will be back whenever I can. I walked in and was kindly created but whom I presume was the owner, it seemed they had been working hard all day as there were just about to sit down and enjoy lunch and it was already 3! That didn't stop them from being sincerely excited to see me and explain the wonders that lie ahead. They regretfully apologized because they didn't have there tomato plants out yet but I would have never noticed. This place was filled with a large variety of exotic healthy plants! The calming music and sound of flowing water made me feel like I walked into an unknown paradise. Each plant was priced and easy to identify. The greenhouses are broken up into the plant species desired conditions. I knew it was a little early to be planting outside but I just couldn't leave without taken some of the masterpieces with me. I happened upon Kellner's Greenhouses early March when Milwaukee was spitting snow and blowing cold winds - stepping into their greenhouse I was greeted warmly. I spent nearly two hours roaming the aisles, asking novice green thumb questions, and then potting my own plant babies in the pots I brought with me. Being that it was pre-season I was thankful to get in and have that personal time to meet the family behind the business who are all wonderful! I've been back a couple more times as I get caught in the vicious cycle of buying too many plants, then too many pots, then too many plants... Every time the fam is kind, personable, patient, and "planting seeds of knowledge." I was overwhelmed with their pre-season selection and am very much looking forward to when they are fully stocked and in the swing of things! The prices are competitive and fair, the quality superb, the people and puppy dogs wonderful for fun, supportive local experience. I'll definitely be perennial visitor! read more
